Terena Scott is a mother, educator, and writer whose work is fueled by a passion for art and a deep belief in every person’s right to self-expression—especially children with disabilities.

She holds two specialized teaching credentials: a Master’s in Special Education with Orientation & Mobility (2012) and a Teacher of the Visually Impaired credential (2022). In her role as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Terena teaches art to children with complex medical needs, and she brings stories to life through her YouTube channel, “Story Time with Miss Terena”, designed to support visually impaired readers.

Terena’s daughter, Rhia, was born deaf‑blind with multiple disabilities and was never expected to live past age twenty. For over three decades, Terena has navigated the intersecting worlds of caregiving, education, and advocacy—not only for Rhia, but for countless other families of children with disabilities. She has served on advisory boards and volunteered with nonprofit organizations dedicated to empowering this community.

Her newest memoir, Raising Rhia: A Mother’s Fight for a Joyful Life, will be published by She Writes Press in Spring 2026. The book explores the balancing act of love and grief, shining a light on the resilience, joy, and challenges of raising a child with severe disabilities.

In addition to her advocacy and writing, Terena is a gardener, tango dancer, and aspiring electric-guitarist. Originally from Lake and Mendocino Counties, she now calls the Bay Area home.

well, seeing as I wrote it, I think it's fabulous. But I'd really like to know what you all think and if you found it useful. I wrote it to help other struggling publishers get their start.
