Falling For Mr. Safety

Rate this book
When your job is all about avoiding risk, what happens when you meet the one person who makes you want to risk it all?

Juniper Carlisle is the only totally normal member of her show biz family. Thus, she is invisible. But she has a plan to change that, starting with the huge production she’s putting on for the opening of the new minor league baseball stadium. A couple rings of fire, a few unbelievable dog tricks, and she’ll finally get her family’s attention, proving that she, too, has that special something.

But when Juni’s best friend and show partner gets hurt and can’t do the show, everyone suggests a ridiculous replacement.

Carter Callihan is in Solano Creek short term. He was beckoned by his grandfather for reasons only known to the elderly man, but after Carter provides security for the big opening day at the new baseball stadium as a favor to his big brother, he’s headed back to Los Angeles, where he makes sure all the A-list celebrities are truly untouchable, thanks to his firm.

Carter is good with numbers, calculating risk, and staving off disaster. He’s been doing it his whole life. But Juniper Carlisle is like a walking hand grenade inside a tornado strapped onto a speeding bus, and he can’t figure out if he should throw himself on the grenade (hypothetically, of course) or run far, far away.

And now that he sees Juniper every single day as they practice for the big show, he’s pretty sure that the closer he gets to her, the better the odds that he’ll be the one who gets hurt.

This is an absolutely charming enemies-to-lovers, opposites attract book. I’ve loved all Marika and Delancey’s collaboration books, but this one just did it for me. Juniper’s joie de vivre and Carter’s inability to stop assessing situations for danger and spouting random doomsday facts make them a brilliant pair of opposites. Juni makes Carter anxious, and Carter makes Juni absolutely insane. And yet! Through the forced proximity of having to work together they learn to appreciate and respect each other. It’s a rom-com, so all their problems are resolved pretty easily, but it’s a fun romp and includes not only some past characters, but a new surprise and (of course, it’s Solano Creek) the Grand Gesture. An easy, fun, uplifting read that will make you laugh out loud and raise your spirits. I received an advance copy in return for my honest review.

Loved this cute and fun story so much!! After reading book one, I couldn’t wait for Carter’s story.

Juniper is a cute and quirky and carefree pet store owner. Carter is a rigid, rule-following, security guy who always spouts off statistics about dangerous situations. Mr. Safety?
More like Mr. Worry Wart. They couldn’t be more opposite, but they’re the cutest together.

This story is all sorts of delightful and charming. It’s so sweet and full of light-hearted fun, I couldn’t help but smile all the way through.

I absolutely adore this town, all the characters in it, and all the shenanigans they get up to. Everyone is so easy to fall in love with. And it’s so effortless to get emotionally attached because they are so dang lovable!! Even the critters who sometimes steal the show.

This entire story made me all sorts of giddy and happy and gave me big swirls of warm fuzzies. Such a feel-good story! The grovel scene? Heartwarming and ADORABLE. Watching Juni & Carter’s feelings grow from beginning to end was the sweetest. When I finished the last page, my heart was bursting with joy.

I highly recommend this sweet and clean, angst-free RomCom from these amazingly talented authors. This writing duo is a favorite of mine and I always look forward to reading their books. Together they kick some serious RomCom booty. And it goes without saying that I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.

I was surprised by how charming this romcom was. I expected funny -- which I definitely got. I expected some hostility between the hero and heroine. But I was not expecting how quickly Carter would dial back his rigidity or how sweet he could be, especially with his acquired pet (a surprise I don't want to spoil). I wasn't really surprised that Juniper opened up to Carter fairly quickly because she is a sweetheart. I was, however, completely surprised by the twist in the middle of the book. Total jaw-dropping shock in a good way. But the grovel, oh my stars. That is one of the most unique "take me back" scenes that I have ever read, and I have read thousands. When I realized what was going on, I got choked up, and I laughed and wiped tears through the whole scene. It was absolutely unforgettable. It took this story from funny and sweet to epically romantic. This is my favorite book by this duo.

Trey’s brother Carter has returned to see his grandfather Roy, thinking that he’d stay a few days to see what they wanted and then return to his life in L. A. He runs a security firm and has a weird habit of stating gloom and doom statistics. Juniper is part owner of the local pet shop and charges full speed ahead, not even thinking about danger. They rub each other the wrong way until Carter ends up with a pet raccoon and agrees to help Juniper with a animal show to celebrate the opening of the minor league baseball facility. But will the relationship be derailed by the arrival of Juniper’s circus performer parents and her movie star sister, who claims Carter is her fiancée?
I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to everyone.

Falling For Mr. Safety is the second book in the No Place Like Home series, but it can be read as a standalone. The characters from the first book also appear in this one, but there is very little overlap between the stories. The story is set in the same town as the Digital Dating series, and there are references to the characters from that series, but not spoilers.

Falling For Mr. Safety is a cute, sweet opposites-attract rom com without a lot of angst. It has some fun animals and interesting characters. I will definitely be reading more of the series.

I received a copy of the book at my request (and can also read it in KU library), and the opinions here are my own.

Juniper Carlisle and Carter Callihan are quite the pair. I loved them! Juniper is quirky and smart and works so hard to be perfect. Carter is tightly wound, trying to keep the world around him, and every person, safe from harm. On the surface, these two couldn’t be more different but imho, they are perfect for one another. I loved their story. Two crazy “kids”, crazy animals, crazy family, and crazier friends – I couldn’t have asked for a better story. Another great read from these two authors.

I don’t have the words for how much a needed a story like this at the moment. These characters and their behaviors had me laughing and smiling so big it felt great. Laying in bed giggling and not being able to put my kindle down because I’m so engrossed in what could possibly happen next, is going to make for an interesting day at work. I mean who really needs sleep when you have a book from two fantastic authors taunting you. Make sure you one click this immediately.

Juniper co-owns a pet shop with her best friend Iris and she owns a dog called Moxy.

Carter - ends up with a rather unusual pet!!
Juniper is always trying to get her parents approval as she feels like she is being ignored, as her parents own a circus.

Carter... well he is carrying A LOT of baggage around at the moment which has led him into a big mess!

Will the show go on for Juniper & Carter or will they find the trap door?

Falling for Mr. Safety by Delancey Stewart and Marika Ray, book two in the No Place Like Home series, is another humorous and entertaining story form the creative writing duo of Marika Ray and Delancey Stewart. From the start, the humor and laughs were abundant as the feisty and independent Juni and her dog, Moxy were introduced. Juni lives in small town Solano Creek and owns a pet store with her best friend. She has family issues that affect her choices. Carter is a security guard for famous people. He spent summers as a child in Solano Creek visiting his grandfather, Roy. Carter is back in Solano Creek temporarily having been enticed there by Roy and his brother, Trey. Carter also has issues from his past that affect his choices. Carter certainly wasn’t interested in assisting Juni with her animal show that she was debuting at the new baseball park. She took too many chances, ignored all of his safety suggestions and was a force to be reckoned with, but in the end, he agreed to help her. The more time he spent with Juni the more he realized that her way of life: spontaneous, carefree, full of fun was so much more enjoyable than his rule-driven life back in California.

Juni and Carter’s unusual, sweet and heart-warming story is about letting go of your fears, your past and your people pleasing tendency, in order to live life. It’s about embracing the messy parts of life with joy. The story is filled with all the emotions, the connections and the love. The book has a little bit of everything: sweet moments, strong friendships, supportive families, weird families, laughs, painful pasts, cute animals, and sweet love all tied up with all the feels. I highly recommend Falling for Mr. Safety to other readers.

Not sure why this book is so highly rated? It was cute but ok and predictable. What was meant to be surprising didn’t really surprise me since it felt like chunks of this book were missing. The first few chapters didn’t have their details lined up smoothly so it felt disjointed.

I didn’t click with Juniper at all.

I liked “Mr. Safety”- Carter - but the quirky banter stopped once he wanted her to like him and not think he was weird or irritating. So he wasn’t able to be himself - I don’t like that. Maybe he was able to be himself later but she had no problem teasing him about stuff when she had her own issues. Her whole family- not there for her for years but now here for her and being perfect supports? Not realistic.

Don’t get me started on how unrealistic it was for Carter to just shut down his business and move for Juniper- there needed to be some discussion about future plans and she should have had to sacrifice something. I don’t feel like they were an even couple I guess!

If you love funny, quirky, well written, entertaining rom-coms with adorable animals then this book is for you!! Juniper “Juni” Carlisle & Carter “Mr. Safety” Callihan are total opposites who make a fabulous couple even if they don’t realize it at first!! Juni is a quirky, fun loving, animal loving pet store co-owner with parents in the circus & a goofy dog. Carter is overly cautious & spouts safety facts & sees the danger in everything. The journey to their HEA will have you laughing out loud & pull on your heart strings, they truly help each other become better, happier people. While this can be read as a stand alone, reading the first book will give you the background of the wonderful returning characters from Book One of the series. I voluntarily read for an honest review.

What does a pet store owner and a Hollywood security guard have in common? Absolutely nothing, except their love of animals and their families.

Juniper and Carter meet under unassuming circumstances - Carter is Juniper's best friend's fiancé's brother (from the first book in this series). He lives in LA and comes to Solano Creek to visit his grandpa and do some odd jobs around the house. He and Juniper become close after practicing for an animal obstacle course and, through an odd (but unsurprising) turn of events, Juniper's family breeze through town causing a commotion unto themselves.

This miscommunication romance story relied heavily on the reader reading between the lines and seeing what these characters couldn't. It was highly predictable and a bit cheesy but heartwarming for those who don't mind being told how the MCs feel about each other (until the very end).

Juniper and Carter are complete opposites - he is a safety obsessed security company owner, she is an accident-prone animal lover. But when Carter is lured home to check on his grandfather, he somehow ends up being the animal act Juniper is working on. Slowly Carter sees that Juniper’s chaos may be just what he needs in his life. If only he can convince her, with the help of his fellow security guards and their crazy families.

This book has a some funny moments and a cast of side characters. I have read the first book in this series and liked it. I feel like this book could be a stand alone but would be better if you did read the first one.

I read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This was definitely opposite attracts, grumpy meet sunshine trope.
I really loved the banter and how the story flowed. Honestly this book just puts you in a really good mood.
Juniper is trying to get her family's attention, so decides to do a production with her bestie. Things don't go to plan and somehow Carter is roped Into helping her. This isn't his thing but he still goes ahead.
Well things start to develop between them.

Give it a read and see how it all works out. You will not regret it. I'm writing this with a smile on my face.

"Worms and mud and teasing were not the regular path to a woman’s heart." - Juniper

Free spirited Juniper was living her best life; running a pet shop with her best friend, Iris. She had everything she needed, her dog Moxy, her duck Ms. Waddles A Lot, and an unrequited school girl crush on Chase. Well, she THOUGHT she had it all until that darned mud puddle jumped out and grabbed her... And she had to be rescued by Mr. Safety...

"Clyde and I went over to Right Meow a few times after he’d descended into my life. He was a good excuse, but I wasn’t lying to myself about my real reasons for visiting the pet store in town. She was bubbly and bright, had astonishing green eyes, and an optimism that did something to my heart." - Cole

Stuffy and staid, Cole's job, heck, his LIFE! was considering any and all possible scenarios of danger and ensuring no one got hurt or was ever in danger. So when Cole finds HIMSELF in unexpected straits, he's not convinced this isn't the most dangerous situation of all...

Oh what a ride! Sometimes love finds you when it's least expected! Fun and flirty, Falling for Mr. Safety is a fast paced read with lots of romance and a healthy dose of comedy! Highly recommend!

I’m on Stewart’s ARC list and LOVE to see a new story pop on my kindle!!! She rocks the HEAs and I share my thoughts…. so awesome!

The main characters truly become better people when they are together. The reader quickly falls for them as individuals and patiently waits for the HEA. As always, the amazing author team delivers the fell-good ending the reader was devouring the pages for!

Beyond safety obsessed but a great read

Carter and Juniper. Mr. Safety over everything and Miss Disaster waiting to happen get together and get a raccoon. Lol. The concept is awesome. Carter is beyond with safety tips. Juniper is a frazzled breath of fresh air. Together, they are wonderful.

Juniper and Carter are as opposite as two people can be. When their worlds collide, they discover an unexpected connection. I enjoyed this book and it left me with a full heart - the exact outcome I want in a romance. It felt like Carter lost his quirks partway through and then they returned at the end, it was this that kept it from being a 5 star read. I would still say it was worth reading with the laugh-out-loud moments and that happy ending.

The man launched me onto my feet and only grimaced at his hand for a second before making sure I made it out of the mud puddle. "You know, ascaris, hookworm, and whipworms live in soil, they thrive in wet conditions like mud. I'd get cleaned up right away."

Yeah, thanks a lot, tall handsome stranger. That's what Juniper thought as the man helped her out of the mud puddle. She didn't need to hear his statistics. She was having a bad day as it was. Little did she know he was the brother of her best friend's fiance'. And she was going to be in constant proximity of him. Great. (Side note - it DOES turn out great!)

Carter is in town for a short visit. That's the plan. Before he knows it, it's roped into helping with some weird animal show, has a pet racoon and is falling for a girl that tests all of his sensibilities! Nothing more true than opposites attracting. Carter is definitely attracted to Juniper. He has a lot of decisions to make and life has definitely gotten complicated.

This is such a fun book! Great characters and a great story line.

Pet shop owner Juniper Carlisle is putting together an animal talent show to be held before the first game of the season at Solano Creek's new minor league baseball complex. She's counting on her best friend Iris to be her assistant, but when Iris is forced to back out, security expert Carter Callihan reluctantly steps in. Los Angeles-based Carter is in Solano Creek to help with security for the new ballpark as well as to visit his grandfather and older brother Trey, Iris's fiance. His cautious approach to life couldn't possibly be more different from Juni's quirky, fun-loving personality, but secretly, he can't help being fascinated by her. Spending time with Juni and his family helps uptight Carter relax, and the less he focuses on what could go wrong, the more he realizes what has been missing in his life - namely, Juni. After their rocky beginning, can he convince her to give him a chance?

This story was completely adorable and I enjoyed it tremendously. Juni and Carter's banter was hilarious and despite their differences, they made a super cute couple. They each had some family baggage to work through, though the focus was mainly on Juni's issues with her circus performer parents. They were apparently pretty self-absorbed and I completely understood why she felt they'd overlooked her all her life, but I appreciated that not everything was as it seemed with them. What I most loved about the book, however, was Carter's incredibly creative, funny, and sweet grand gesture near the end. It was totally out of left field, but perfect nonetheless.

I highly recommend this book for all romantic comedy fans and can't wait to get my hands on the next book of the series.

Juniper and Carter were definitely a case of opposites attract, which made it fun seeing how they fell for one another. There was a good combo of humor, romance, and a little drama. The story moves at a good pace and I thought the two authors' writing styles blended well. Falling For Mr. Safety is a fun, entertaining, quick read!

Heartwarming and funny

Nevermind that these authors are talented on their own, but put them together? Get ready for an excellent read!

This is the second book in this series (the first one being Head over Cleats) and I think I like this even more than that one.

Carter and Juniper are not even close to being a traditional "good" match, but we all know, sometimes those connections are the best. I really enjoyed the analysis Carter brought to every situation. And Clyde - so cute! IYKYK. 😉
Juniper is completely relatable and I loved her family!

While this isn't a super steamy read, the characters have great chemistry and are fun to read. I'm leaving this read thoroughly entertained, and I cannot wait for the next part of this series, where Solano Creek makes another match! ❤

I really enjoyed this opposites attract story between Carter and Juniper. Which he's "affectionately" (I choose to think it's a nickname of affection, lol) called Mr. Safety by the decidedly more free-spirited Juni, Carter is wound a bit tight, hence his spouting of doom and gloom statistics almost any time he opens his mouth. He's honestly adorable, while also being a bit cringy with his abundance of caution.
Juniper is looking for her place, since she doesn't seem to fit into her family of over-achievers...or overreaching achievers, in her mom's case! She doesn't want to be attracted to the quirky and irritating, but extremely sexy Carter, but sometimes a girl cannot help herself.
I love the writing duo of Delancy Stewart and Marika Ray as much as I love their solo projects. I know I'm in for a great story with fun characters and more than a few chuckles along the way.

I absolutely love when Marika and Delancey get together and write because it is always a guaranteed loveable read. What isn't to love about a pet loving woman and a man who is so serious much of the time. Throw in a baby raccoon named Clyde and this story is golden.

Juniper and Carter are so much fun. Poor Juniper living in the shadow of her parents and sister and then Carter not really living life at all. Right from their adorable meet cute I knew they were going to be a fun couple. They balance each other out between Carter and his random safety statistics he throws out and Juniper in her somewhat clumsy state sometimes....I just love them.
