The Kinkades #1

The Woodsman

Rate this book
Violet Royale’s entire life has bit the bullet. Between a cheating ex and her career imploding, she’s one shaved head away from a total breakdown. Needing an escape, she books a small cottage in Maine for the holidays.

When a massive snowstorm promises to keep the outside world at bay, Violet believes fate is finally doing her a favor. Until a rugged, flannel-clad woodsman bursts through the door, claiming the cottage is his… and was never listed for rent.

Jamie Kinkade has crafted his life for simplicity. His only priorities are his woodworking business and his crazy, tight-knit family. When he comes home to a strange woman standing in his kitchen— in nothing but his shirt—he quickly realizes a certain meddling sister is responsible for this mess.

The fact that the storm stranded Violet with a stranger seems right on par for her catastrophic course. Except as the snow piles up outside, Jamie’s steady and caring presence has her quickly warming to his irresistible flame.

What started as a much-needed escape quickly becomes everything she’s ever wanted. But with Violet’s track record, only a fool would let down her guard now that her heart is on the line.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

One of my favorite reads this year 😍

The Kinkade family is by far one of my favorite families to ever read about! They're so close and in each others business but in the best way possible. I cannot wait to read all their stories, especially Lou. I'm also hoping their mom will find her love somewhere along the way too because she is so sweet.

Violet and Jamie's connection though.. 😍🔥 I am actually obsessed with them. Their love is truly so special and heartwarming.. and definitely inspiring! We all deserve a love like theirs.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

As always, another winner from Dr. Rebecca Sharp. This is my first non-security related book by the author, so I was excited to jump in!

Violet has been thoroughly exhausted from every aspect in her life - from being cheated on by her fiancé to being passed over for a job that was meant to be hers by her own family, she is in need of a reset. That’s how she ends up at a cabin in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm.

When Jamie walks into his home, his cabin, after being out in the snow all day, the last thing he expects to find is someone renting out his cabin, which was never up to be rented out by him. His younger sister took is upon herself to rent out his cabin in order to get him to take a chance on love.

Violet and Jamie couldn’t be more different, but that worked for them so wonderfully. I love how they were never really enemies and they coasted right into the territory of friendly to lovers.

“Violet, you are so far away from nothing that to say you are everything still wouldn’t be enough.”

Violet never had a loving family growing up; they were all business. So being thrown into the Kinkade family and the small town feel, she was thrown for a loop, but in a good way. She knew what she wanted and what she didn’t.

I loved Jamie’s character so much. Since he lost his father, he dubbed himself the man of the house and took it upon himself to do everything for everyone else. He never let himself love and he never let himself loosen the reigns. It was nice to see how much his family cared about him and wanted the absolute best for him.

I really hope that we are getting some more of the Kinkade siblings stories - especially Kit. He was the most mysterious and most unlikely to find love.

I've just been made aware that this author frequently plagiarizes the author A.K. Evans (who is apparently also her sister-in-law) so I won't be reading anything else by this author.

This was a wonderful, heartwarming read with plenty of spice!

"He hardly knew me, but he looked at me like I was his."

Violet Royale has escaped to Friendship, Maine, to get away from all her worries and disappointments. She is mortified when she finds out that the cabin her assistant rented was rented out unknowingly by the owner - a gorgeous, red-headed lumberjack of a guy, Jamie Kinkade. And, a massive snowstorm is about to hit them, trapping them both in the cabin.

"I've been dying to be inside you from the second I saw you wearing my shirt."

Jamie has spent the last ten years dedicated to helping his family and putting them first. When a sibling's prank finds Violet in his cabin, wearing his flannel shirt and nothing more, well, he quickly realises, that for once in his life, he really wants something just for himself.

"I didn't know how to tell her what she'd come to mean to me in any rational sense because there was nothing rational about it."

This was such a gorgeous story! Violet and Jamie were both hella sweet. They were both such caring people who put their families first, but I loved how they quickly formed a bond and unquestioning trust. I adored their chemistry and, wowsers, they were all kinds of hot and spicy together! Jamie's meddling family was a hoot and I'm looking forward to more Kinkade family stories, especially his brother, Kit's, who I found very intriguing!

Looking for a sweet, off the charts steamy, holiday read that will keep you up past your bedtime falling in love with a small town and hot hero? This read checks all those boxes and more. The emotions in the characters are so real and I could completely relate to Violet and her struggles with panic attacks, but what really broke my heart was Jamie and his selfless sacrifices he made in life helping raise his siblings. Violet may come from money, but she is the most down to earth person ever and the connection her and Jamie share is so beautiful. Jamie’s family is absolutely the best while being meddlesome, they only want each other happy, and they had me laughing so much throughout. Violet feels at home with not just Jamie but also his family and when her time is up, she doesn’t want to leave, but can Jamie pull her away from her duty to family? In this cute read you get all the emotions, fun, and holiday feel good.

Strong doesn’t mean you lack moments of weakness. Strong means you don’t let them define you.

This was one of the best holiday books I've read!! I love Jamie and the crazy Kinkade family, and they were just what Violet needed. Violet has never had a true family experience, but Jamie sees her worth and is there for her. This was such a sweet and steamy story, and I can't wait to read the rest of the family's stories.

I like this author… I do not like hallmark movies 😂 that’s on me.

Plot what plot?

Insta love that mostly revolves around the FMC wearing the MMCs flannel for a week straight with out washing it… after what I read the only way to clean it is by fire at this point.

I probably should have wait till after thanksgiving to read this as it was a Christmas special… the man proposes with a snow flake ring (cringe I’m sorry)

Somewhat boring

I’ve read a few of the author’s books before, and while I liked some, there were others that I didn’t like that much. When I saw this (new to me) series, The Kinkades, I thought I might as well give it a try. Book one in the series is Titled The Woodsman and tells the story of Jamie Kinkade and Violet Royale’s journey to their happy ending.

After breaking up with her cheating ex-boyfriend and being “kicked out” of her family’s hotel business to make way for her good-for-nothing brother, Violet’s best friend (Leslie) forces her to take some time out by going on a vacation. The vacation spot is a beautiful cabin surrounded by snow and nature, just what Violet needs. When someone enters the cabin, showing surprise at seeing her there, Violet discovers that the cabin is the home of Jamie Kinkade, and that his mischievous sister rented it out without Jamie’s knowledge or consent. However, because of a snowstorm, Violet cannot leave immediately, thus they are forced to spend a day stuck together in the cabin. There is an immediate attraction on both sides, but because they are strangers and Violet will only be staying for a short time, they both resist the attraction. Enter Jamie’s “crazy” family, and matchmaking is on the cards.

I liked the Kinkade family and their shenanigans; their closeness and love for each other practically jumped off the page. But my favorite character was Leslie, Violet’s friend—her advice to Violet was spot on, and she had a good, logical mind (and would make a great FMC, think).

I struggled to connect to the story as the pacing was very slow—at 42% in I had to force myself to continue. There were a lot of unnecessary details about the town and its appeal, especially during Violet’s monologues, and this just detracted from my enjoyment.

For someone who just had her heart broken, Violet came across as far too easy; whenever she looked at Jamie, she had “desire in her eyes”, showed disappointment on the occasions he rebuffed her, and “looked at him with hope” when she thought he was going to change his mind about them getting intimate. She knew she was only going to be there for a limited time yet had no problem chasing after Jamie regardless of the consequences. And when those consequences inevitably showed up, what did she do? She decided that she had no choice in the matter and had to return to New York because her family “needed” her—never mind the fact that her family was just using her (like they have been doing all her life).

Honestly speaking, Violet was written as someone who needed someone else to validate her value. First, she sought acceptance from her parents her whole life (and never got it), then she transferred that neediness to Jamie, and when he did not come to the party (according to her), she decided to return to a situation that made her miserable. And this because “Jamie did not ask me to stay.” Jeez, woman, what about doing what you want to do without making someone else responsible for your happiness?

Somehow, and I don’t know why, female authors always write the male character better than they do the female one. Such was the case with Jamie … other than one moronic moment, he was a likeable character. He loved his family and town and was willing to give it up to be with the love of his life (Violet). He was additionally the kind of hero I enjoy reading: strength of character and determined to fight for what he wants. The only thing that bothered me about Jamie was that he decided to follow Violet should she leave, and then, come crunch time, he didn’t give a thought to his resolution. Although, I do suspect that this was a plot hole and not Jamie’s fault.

The story was okay, I guess, but I found it mostly boring, but at least the spice was good. Other than a few editing, plot hole and timing issues, the writing was good, and someone else might enjoy it.

"I was already knees bruised, hands scraped, and ass on the ground, in love with Jamie Kinkade."

This was my first Rebecca Sharp book to read that did not have an element of suspense. She didn't disappoint!

Violet's life has hit a very large bump in the road. Her fiancé cheated on her, and her career and the goals she had are no longer. Her assistant, also her best friend, books her a stay at a cottage in Maine over the Holidays so she can get away to regroup and relax. Turns out the cottage she booked on VRBO was listed by Jamie's sister without Jamie knowing. Imagine his surprise when he came home to find Violet in his home. On top of the shock, a huge snowstorm has just hit and they are stuck together for a bit.

This book was so wonderful! I seriously wish the small town Friendship existed and I was a part of the Kincade family. They are a crazy, in-your-business, loving, roll-your-eyes, laugh-out-loud family. They have these amazing family traditions like bringing storm care packages to everyone in town via a snow mobile pulling a sled. I mean come on that is just too cute!

The love Jamie has for Violet is so strong and true. I love the caring man he is and how much his family means to him. Violet's family is nothing like Jamie's. They are cold, and care more about work than family. Violet gets to experience what a true Christmas is like with a family that exudes love.

Let's not forget the spice! The sexy times were steamy and so so good. O boy do I want a Jamie of my own. lol This is an open door romance and I'm all here for it.

This is definitely in my top 2 Christmas books this year. Right up there with Lovelight Farms. I can't wait to read the future books about Jamie's siblings!!!

Violet Royale is stuck in the passenger seat of a Prius, driving through a storm and away from the nightmare that is her life. Richard, her cheating ex, left her needing a place to destress and breathe. Her father betrayed her by giving the job she had desired, and deserved, to her brother who had no interest in anything but himself. She rented a cabin in Friendship, Maine for a week, determined to get herself feeling better. But it turns out the owner didn't rent it to her at all; his sister did in an attempt to set him up, since his love life was abysmal. Jamie Kincaid has a loving, close family that is anything but conventional. Jamie became the man of the house at a very young age, and his family would do just about anything for him. Jamie's twin sisters, Frankie and Lou, are opposites in every way, but they're at their best when they come up with "a plan." His brother, Kit, came home from war a different man and he keeps to himself in the Lighthouse he inhabits. His mom is his rock and Gigi is his adorable granny, who wields the real power in that house. Vi knows that she's falling in love with them all, but Jamie owns her heart. There's a fair amount of Carmel Cove in Friendship from the lovely, historical inn that needs some renovating, to the locally produced baskets of baked goods and premonition preserves, to the famous Ocean Roaster's Coffee. It feels like a journey home. This story is charming, a little bittersweet, has a great deal of humor and leaves you with a celebration of joy!.

Jamie and Violet

This might be my favorite holiday read this year. It was so much more than a holiday romance and was significantly deeper than I expected, especially considering the short time period the book took place in.

Violet rented a cabin in Maine, not expecting it to come with her own growly woodsman with a heart of gold. Jamie is used to his sister Frankie’s pranks, and he’s forced to roll with it when he comes home to find the woman of his dreams has “rented” his cabin. After being stranded in his cabin during a snowstorm, they both don’t know what to make of their developing feelings. Neither Jamie nor Violet has ever put themselves first, always making their family a priority. But when Violet is handed the family she’s been missing on a silver platter, will she finally choose the life she wants or will she give up everything for her family once more?

Jamie’s family was so welcoming and kind. I loved all of them. Frankie and her meddling ways, Gigi and her jam fortunes, and Kit hiding in his lighthouse. They all accepted Violet and made sure she had everything she’d been missing her whole life. And Violet was such a strong character. The panic she feels, even in moments where it catches her unexpectedly, was so heartbreaking. But Jamie had her from the moment he saw her in his cabin, wearing his shirt, wielding a fire poker.

This book was all about love, family, and grace. It was the perfect mix of holiday romance and found family. I hope we get to see more from the Kinkades because their family was a riot.

This story was so freaking adorable, sweet, emotional and utterly heartwarming that it continually kept a smile on my face or tears dripping off my chin. I laughed, I cried and I fell head over heels for one hell of a sexy woodsman and his crazy and utterly ridiculous family.

Violet is exhausted with her family, her job and just her life in general and needs some down time by herself. Little did she know that she would be shoved headfirst (not literally) into the arms of a stranger in the middle of a snowstorm.

When Jamie comes home to his cabin, the last thing he expected was to find a beautiful stranger in his home, wearing his clothes. But little did he know that his life was about to get turned upside down.

Sparks were flying between Jamie and Violet, and their chemistry was explosive, steamy and so damn spicy. It would seem that fate (or Gigi) was pushing these two lonely people together to give them their well-deserved happy ever after.

I absolutely adored this story. It was filled with so much passion and love that my heart was ready to burst. Plus, I also fell in love with the Kinkade family and the tightly knitted bond that they have. They would do and will do anything for each other.

Exceptional writing that pulls you in, keeps you captivated and makes it hard for you to let go of the characters when its over.

I need the next Kinkade story now!!

I loved everything about this book! It was such a beautiful story unlike the others from Dr. Sharpe that feature more suspense and mysterious reveals. It was a different side that I am all for. I loved the way Jamie has to overcome his sense of duty to his family as the provider to really dig down to what he really wants. Violet also has to let go of her past and how she was treated by her ex that broke pieces of her with her family ultimately taking all she had left. Her vacation was needed to heal and she found so much more than that in Friendship. The state capitols for anxiety control was a fun idea (and even when they came out like curses). I love all the pop culture references and had me rolling with the scenes to a certain favorite Christmas movie that myself can’t get enough of either! It was a perfect blend of Hallmark (with extra spice of course) and Sharp herself, and can rival the writings of well known authors. I find myself completely immersed in the pages and how the story will unfold. It showed us that love is possible at first sight and that family doesn’t have to be the one you’re born into. The growth and happiness that Jamie and Vi found in one another was great and I can’t wait to get another Kinkade story!.

This is my first book by this author and I can tell you it won’t be my last this I am sure of Violet intelligent, mistreated by her family, the man she thought loved only to find out he is a cheater and her career working at the family company being passed over by her family for a position she worked hard for, a position she deserved but yet they gave it to someone else causing her to reach her breaking point so deciding to rent a cabin deep in the woods just to get away from it all and work on her next move little did she know this one trip would change her path. Jamie sexy as all get out woodsman out in the middle of no where comes home to a strange women who rented out his home without his knowledge only to find out his sister is up to her tricks again and trying to play cupid by renting out his home forcing him to have interactions with the outside world so to speak. The both know the situation could have turned out worse but they try to get to know each other even if they are opposites yet that is what draws them to each other and the attraction is intense, the magnetic pull can’t be ignored but is it the reset she needs, will she go back to her job, will he want her to stick around longer, will he help heal her, and can they find happiness together?.

Perfect holiday read 🔥❤️🎄

Looking for a fun holiday read? How about a little forced proximity in a faked cottage rental complete with a snowstorm? City girl and small town woodsman? Small town, big family? Meddling siblings that seem to show up at inopportune moments? Cooky grandma who somehow manages to foretell things to come? And the most amazing family and holiday traditions that make you want to be a part of this family yourself?

Then Jamie and Violet’s story is just what you need. It was an entertaining and steamy read, with the perfect touch of holiday magic. Violet’s high society family is awful, and after a mental breakdown she finds herself in the middle of nowhere for a two week break from reality. Only she discovers the adorable cottage was not actually for rent. Jamie has spent all his life stepping up to care for his family, and never putting himself first. These two are perfect for each other right off the bat. I love that Violet is not a spoiled princess stereotypical socialite city girl. She may come from that family, but it is definitely not her or the life she would choose. And Jamie‘s family is over bearing to the max, but then you see all of the traditions they have and how they all care for each other, and you can’t help but love them all.

Get your hot cocoa (spiked if you have it!) and settle in for this great read!

Snowed in. Sparks flying. One rugged Woodsman might just thaw her heart.

Dr. Rebecca Sharp’s “The Woodsman” blends holiday charm with small-town intimacy in this delightful forced proximity romance. Violet Royale, reeling from heartbreak and corporate burnout, escapes to a remote Maine cabin for a solitary Christmas—only to find it already occupied by rugged woodsman Jamie Kinkade. With a snowstorm closing in, the two are stranded under one roof, and the sparks that fly are far from frosty. As days turn into nights of slow-burning connection, Violet’s icy walls begin to thaw under Jamie’s steady warmth and unexpected tenderness.

This cozy yet emotionally layered story doesn’t just deliver romantic chemistry—it also explores the power of healing and choosing new beginnings. Sharp crafts a compelling narrative of love emerging in the unlikeliest of places, complete with quirky family meddling, a snowy town full of heart, and a hero whose handcrafted wooden gifts are just as meaningful as his loyalty. “The Woodsman” is perfect for readers craving a sweet, snowbound escape with a strong emotional core. Snuggle up and grab your copy now—holiday magic awaits.

Violet is happy to finally reach the cozy cabin she rented for two weeks in Maine after several travel issues due to a blizzard. She’s more than shocked when the tall, sexy Woodsman comes bursting in the door to find her wearing just his flannel shirt with her sexy undergarments hanging up to dry by the fireplace. Her vacation rental has some unspoken perks she’s extremely interested in exploring.

The last thing Jamie Kinkade expects to find when he comes home to his cabin is a beautiful and nearly naked woman. He learns his younger sister is to blame, but with the blizzard raging he is going to be stranded with the beautiful woman for the next several days.

A woman who has never been valued by her family finds herself in the midst of an amazing, loving and supportive family who welcome her during the holidays. She finds herself falling for Jamie and his family, and realizes how much she’s been missing in life.

This story has a sweet Christmas theme, an uplifting storyline and wonderful characters. The Kinkades are a fantastic and wildly crazy family, full of love and humor. I’m eager to read about the remaining siblings and cousins.

Love this book and the Kinkade clan - can’t wait to read the siblings’ books!! Violet’s reached her breaking point - cheating fiancée, pushed out of the family business for her incompetent brother and anxiety/panic attacks exacerbated by familial disappointment. Her assistant and bestie books her a 2 week getaway in Maine. Arriving in a snowstorm she’s enchanted by the cozy cabin until a gruff, sexy woodsman (Jaime) lets himself in claiming she’s in his house which he did not list on VRBO. Turns out his younger sister is trying to jumpstart his nonexistent love life. Just a word about the Kinkade clan they are hilarious, nosy, overstepping, complicated, love fiercely and quickly accept Violet as their own. Shenanigans ensue but also deeper, more complicated emotions. They are not perfect but it’s clear they love each other- a real family. Violet and Jaime bond during the storm but both are guarded and hesitant to reveal the depth of their feelings. When Violet’s family comes calling both fall back on familiar patterns but interventions by their respective ride or dies help them see the error of their ways. In true Kinkade fashion the two are reunited. A sexy Christmas romance with heat, heart and hilarity.

Another wonderful story from Rebecca Sharp, making us swoon and fall in love with her characters once again.
I love Violet and Jamie their romance is so steamy and romantic.
Violet needs a break from her life a cabin in the woods seems like the perfect escape from everything that has fallen apart in her life. What she doesn't expect is that the owner of the cabin doesn't even know that his home has been rented out.So when he comes barrelling into her life needless to say they are both shocked with one another's presence.
Jamie is a rugged mountain man who just so happens to have a crazy family and sneaky relatives who are trying to matchmake him with someone. To the point they deceptively rent out his cabin.
A pesky storm forces them to stay in the cabin together.
They have a magnetic attraction and explosive chemistry and soon they fall hard and fast.
There are so many beautiful and memorable moments in this book.
Rebecca's words have you tranfixed and you can never get enough I certainly couldn't.
This is a brilliant read that makes you hot and warm inside.
Its a fantastic story and an ideal holiday read.

I thoughly enjoyed reading about these characters Violet Royale and Jamie Kincade.

Violet has been the overworked under valued daughter to the Royale hotel chain. Violet is trying to find some peace and regroup from her recent ex-finance's cheating ways and her families dianamics where she does all the work and her brother who will always succeeds her.

When Violet's assistant booked a private getaway for her to escape over the Christmas celebrations, she wasn't expecting Jamie Kincade to burst through the cabin door in the middle of a snowstorm.

Jamie returns home during a blizzard of a snowstorm to find a stunningly beautiful woman in his cabin wearing one of he flannel shirts.
Both are stranded in the snowstorm and stunned to discover that Jamie's younger sister has rented out his cabin over Christmas and now they are both stranded until the snow clears and power returns.

A wonderfully written storyline around the Kincade family and the stranded stranger who really doesn't want to leave this simple paradise.
Looking forward to reading more about each of these characters.
