This isn’t an entirely unbiased review. I rotated with Dr. Pyle on aesthetics during my time at UNC Chapel Hill as a plastic surgery resident. I didn’t get much exposure to how his business was run, moreso exposure to how cosmetic surgery is done. Even so, I could tell that his business was enormously successful. Now he has written a guide for how they got there! Many of the suggestions Dr Pyle and Mr Poe make are common sense for any person living in the 21st century - make it easier for the patients to learn about your business online and to schedule their appointments online. Some suggestions are not so common sense for the typical private practice physician, such as to hire a business director who will oversee the business side of medicine, sales and marketing, hiring and firing, the budget, etc. I know in my own practice, which I do not own but is owned by my senior partner, he involves himself in every aspect of the business, and that is not always a good thing. Overall, I thought this book was excellent. It’s applicable to most any field of medicine, not just plastic surgery. I think anyone in private practice would benefit greatly from reading it.
