Healing Hearts #23

Remember Loyalty

Rate this book
Corporal Leo Talbot wished things would lighten up on the team. No one could appreciate a few practical jokes and he desperately needed an outlet for the darkness within him. No one would understand the scars on his soul… until he received that first email from Sadie.

Sadie Gomez thought writing some soldier overseas was the stupidest idea that her grief counselor entrusted her to do – especially anyone with the last name of Talbot. The nightmares wouldn’t simply go away by discussing them, especially when Leo was dealing with his own issues.

When an unexpected attack suddenly draws the two foes together, will Sadie be able to trust Leo to have her back?

These standalone sweet, clean romances follow a team of soldiers that were once stationed in Afghanistan, bound by friendship. They can be read alone but if you read them together, their stories are so much richer.

This a dual pov, clean romance. It is in a series but can easily be read as a stand alone book.

Forget Capulets and Montagues have you heard of the Talbots and Gomez families? Well they are the modern day version of them. Sadie wants to escape her toxic family after the death of her husband (a Talbot) and is looking for a fresh start in Tyler Texas.

Talbot received his pen pal while overseas and as fate would have it, it’s his high school crush.

This Healing Hearts series just gets better and better with every one I read. This one had a little bite to it because we have feuding families involved. Can you say toxic family relationship? That is what Sadie Gomez has with her own family. They have had a feud with the Talbot family for a long time. So when Sadie marries a Talbot man, there is no wedded bliss. Now she is suffering because her husband has died in a tragic accident and instead of holding her up and helping her, her family is punishing her. Her therapist suggests a move which is how she ends up in Tyler, Texas. If you are familiar with this series, you know Tyler, Texas is the place where broken hearts go to find love, even if they are not looking for it. When Sadie agrees to be a pen pal to a soldier, she is shocked to learn that her pen pal is Corporal Leo Talbot. This cannot be happening, right?

Both Sadie and Leo are a little timid about the pen pal situation, but as they get to know each other better, they realize they have allowed their families to poison their minds. As always, I had some belly laughs with the scenes where these soldiers are pranking each other. These guys are close, and they love to play games with one another. The characters are so loveable and fun. You will see characters from other books in this series, but you can still read this book as a standalone. I highly recommend this book and this series. To put the cherry on top, it is clean.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ah, a modern-day version of the Hatfields and McCoys! We have the Talbots and the Gomez families! When Sadie dares to marry one of them after dating him for years, neither family accepts it well. However, it's more like a convenient marriage because they don't even move into together after the wedding! Then, the groom dies shortly after in an accident and Sadie is trying to process it all but wonders why she isn't grieving too much. Her counselor suggests a military pen pal and wouldn't you know, it's another Talbot....completely by accident! However, this Talbot is totally different and this time, they just might get things right! Sadie and Leo are a great couple! They are going to break the family curse by breaking away from the family and I really enjoyed their story. Such sweetness and light! A lesson about who your family really is - doesn't have to be blood, necessarily!

Sweet, contemporary, military romance

Romance, sweet, contemporary, military; series but stand alone read; sweet bit some mention and hints of relations so more of PG-13
Leo and Sadie’s story was another pen pal romance that was a second chance for Leo who had a crush on Sadie as a teen.
Sassy, happy, and a bit of a jokester, Leo was glad to be in the Army, and leave his family grudges behind. Sadie, struggling to get beyond her husband’s accidental death two years prior, can’t seem to turn a corner.
Leo’s irreverent emails, his gifts and letters, frustrate first, then make her laugh at his crazy.
Fun characters, sweet tender moments (with a dash of crazy from Leo) get Sadie to open her heart and take the risk of being with him.
Leo joins the many army men who don’t reenlist and settle in Tyler, Texas to be with his wife.

Another wonderful, tender hearted story by Ginny Sterling.
The Talbot and Gomez families have hated each other for years. Sadie G married David T but three months later he died in an accident and his family treated her badly emotionally.
Sadie accepts a new job in Tyler, eight hours away from home. She agrees to being a pen pal with a soldier overseas until she sees the name. How is it possible he is a distant relative of her late husband? Both decide to give each other a chance to help the other person through a tough time.
*I received this book as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.

Romeo and Juliet, the way it should have turned out! Loved this sweet story filled with redemption and forgiveness. It was a beautiful romance that had just enough swoon but not all the spice. Really loved how they talked and figured things out without letting the poison of other's words decide their future. Definitely one you'll want to read if you enjoy military romance with lots of great flirting/banter.

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from the author via BookFunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

Author Ginny Sterling touched my heart with "Remember Loyalty", allowing me to know when to laugh with this couple. And, it was definitely a matter of time before my heart broke. This book touched on what family was meant to be, not what some people make it to be. Leo Talbot knew that love was supposed to be a lifelong commitment, filled with joy and a peace. Sadie thought love was a myth. Together, Sadie and Leo fight to find a love so strong. Can they a love so strong that will see them through to happily forever? I give this sweet book 4 out of 5 stars.

I Loved Remember Loyalty!

I loved reading about Leo and Sadie! Once again, Ginny Sterling has done a great job with the the characters in the Healing Hearts Series! I don’t want this series to end! In each story, the soldier and his pen pal sometimes have insurmountable situations that seem they cannot overcome, but love wins out each time!

Friends With Conflict

This series is the best! You feel vested in the men and women as they write to their pen pal and find love. Could she be interested in that rival name again? Could she have feelings for him after everything that happened to and with his cousin?
Friends that are family will be the key!

Home

I think the characters in this book are home. While they can be read as standalones, I have truly enjoyed binge reading Healing Hearts from the very beginning. I think each book has held an important thread from the tapestry of life and that together they all make an absolutely end community which I would love to be a part of. I highly recommend!

I loved Leo & Sadie 🤎 they’re randomly chosen as pen pals but it turns out there’s history & family rival! I loved how they moved past it and do what’s best for them. Loved how he falls first and his nickname of kitten for her🫠

It's hard when there's prejudice within families that affect their kids. Leo and Sadie have that problem with their families. But they are bound and determined to make their own family regardless of their last names. HEA.

A Wonderful Healing Hearts Book

These stories are absolutely brilliant. With a lovely lesson for the world about judging others for things that do not matter. It was great that Perry got paid back for his trick and poor maligned Cooper.

A nice addition to the Healing Hearts series. Leo and Sadie are both dealing with past family squabbles that they are trying to get away from. The pen pal program works again. It is good to see other members of the series popping up.

Good story

A good story but very funny in some places.
It's a story of serving our country and the brotherhood of families created by going through hardships together.

Didn't see this one coming. Ginny Sterling has done an excellent job creating unique stories for each of the books in this long series and this one is one of the most unique. Think Hatfield/McCoy feud meets Romeo and Juliet.
