34th Book of 2022

It’s quite obvious that publishers are now interested in publishing Youtubers, Influencers or Start-up founders as the new generation is following them religiously. I recently completed reading Raj Shamani’s 1st book who is a Youtuber and just now, I have completed 2nd book published by Ankur Warikoo, who was a Start-up Founder and is a Youtuber and Content-creator now. His first book “Do Epic Shit” got tremendous response last year and its quotes were visible almost everywhere- Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and where-not. The 2nd book is named “Get Epic Shit Done” which Warikoo says is a next-level thing and not a sequel to his 1st book. I have been an ardent follower of his life-related videos on Youtube and never missed them. I watch it with my parents. Watching him makes me feel as if a big brother is talking to me, someone I didn’t have in my life to guide me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t read his 1st book continuously but read it in parts hence couldn’t talk about it on my Blog. But I was very sure that I am going to read his next book as soon as it comes out and here I am.

The one issue that I always had with Warikoo is that he talks about happiness generally and advices people to not shy away from taking unconventional or undefined paths without worrying about what parents, family or near ones think about you. This is one reason why I feel scared because I have young cousins and I don’t want them to take extreme decisions just for the sake of it. I could never understand why doesn’t Ankur talks about hard work, hustle and efforts as he has been someone who has worked as an Entrepreneur which involves lot of work. Finally, with this book, all those complains have gone away.

As the title of the book says, author continuously empathizes on how to get big things done and executed in life ensuring that we don’t become mediocre or relaxed about growth and success. The previous book I read by Raj Shamani was a very aggressive speech on working hard whereas this is the same thing but spoken like a friendly senior/elder brother to make you realize where you are going wrong in life. The book is written in Teacher-student conversation format which is very similar to Bhagavad Gita where a confused Arjun is asking Lord Krishna questions and he is clearing all his confusions by letting him know the principles of life, success and righteousness without directly telling what actions to perform. He leaves it to him for deciding and executing. Similarly, here, the Student is someone who is at an age where education, career, relationships, personal growth are all important and something about which he is clueless because no one has taught him about it. Teacher, here, gives him friendly answers which makes him understand the root cause of every derivation and learn the art of helping himself in any situation.

The writing style is very simple. There’re no tough words used. You will not have to run for picking up dictionary at all. The book helps you uncover a lot of doubts about yourself so you’ll not even pick-up that God-damn phone in between while reading it as you’ll feel that this is one-time opportunity in life to learn about ourself. It seems that Warikoo is able to look inside you and find what’s making you confused and unhappy these days. All the questions that the student asks him – most of them are something you wish you had known at the time when you needed to know them or you are actually thinking of it right now. I’m at an age where relationship and career growth are a big issue in my life and the way it is covered helped me a lot to understand what actually needs to be done to get better in both the departments.

The book has some cool illustrations which you’ll want to redraw in your notebook so that you can retain it for a longer time. It helps you understand the textual contexts better. The book is divided in 4 different sections such as – Managing your life, career, people and yourself. There are total of 36 major questions that are asked in context to these four topics which then follows multiple questions inside to ensure that you understand the crux of the message that author wanted to deliver. There are many such quotes which can change your whole perspective or stay with you and guide throughout your life. For social media folks, they are worthy to be shared in the Stories/Status and get likes from it. Haha!

I would like to mention few things out of many that I liked from the book:
The chapter on Writing our thoughts talks about how we pick only important ones as process of writing is slower than thinking and we want to capture only the best ones which later tells us about our priority.
He also helps understand power of listening over anything else for being a good communicator.
While taking decisions, thinking if we can bear the worst-case is something that can change life of many people fearful of taking decisions.
I liked where it is explained how we have to deal with criticism from family members by separating the GIVER and what is GIVEN as criticism. Amazing advice that can help students and people in their 20s develop healthy relationship with their family.
Nicely elaborated the difference between reading and watching videos. How reading enables complete focus whereas video ensures we are distracted by something regularly. I am glad Warikoo always promotes reading books.
What a right career looks like is such a wonderful diagram to understand how to choose our career even if we want to convert our passion into it. You need to get the book to view the diagram, of course. 😊
In the chapter about how to handle first 90 days in a job, Warikoo gives a very great advice to engage with people on personal level so that it becomes easier to then deal on professional level. This is a tried and tested thing even by yours truly. It works.
Living by ourselves and the factors that comes with it such as investing money, managing relationships, disciplined lifestyle, paying bill taxes etc.

Talking about the drawbacks – well, the book doesn’t have any but, in this case, Warikoo has. Haha! Because he has been so much active on Social media almost through all the platforms such as Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Newsletters etc. that there is very less that he has still not talked about. Hence, if you have been his follower like me, you’ll realize that 70% of what has been written has already been shared by him on Social media. Like, he has announced that his next book is going to be about “Make Epic Money”. Now, he has already created multiple financial videos that I doubt the book will have anything new. His content is facing his own contents as its enemy now. Haha!

Overall, I give this book 4.75* out of 5. Highly recommended to everyone!

Thanks!

I like Ankur warikoo’s content on YouTube and also enjoyed his first book. However, this one imo didn’t hit the mark.

Although I received a signed copy after preordering which I am happy about as I really enjoyed Ankur’s content on YouTube and was not able to get a signed copy with the first one. However,I just couldn’t relate to it much or found it useful.

As for the book,

It has a teacher student convo like the courage to be disliked (I always confuse it with ikigai). I think Ankur should have just stuck with his writing style that he had with the first book as the whole convo gets irritating.

I also personally feel the chapters tend to be quite naive especially on Career and dealing with office politics and even on relationships with his advices on navigating it.

To be more specific, he suggests for office politics to see the perspective from other lens, which I would disagree knowing personally how much power games people have played in my own office space and also people around me just to gain an upper hand.

For relationships, I don’t personally think going through the old texts or memories will help someone to move on from their break up. It will probably exaggerate their feelings more down in spiral. Erasing the memories and the context related to it will heal it as time passes by.

He also talked about finding right partner will happen on it’s own time when you stop being desperate for it. I do agree with it to certain extent but I think most people especially those who want to have kids will need to step out and put effort to get to know people and to be in relationship with someone of same values.

Even for friendships, you need to step out to interact, get to know people with the intention of them being your future friend/partner and then it can happen.

As someone who is introverted and love to spend time alone, I think this needs to be emphasised more because if you really don’t care about it and just go with the flow hoping it would happen naturally. Mentally you need to be ready.

His take on happiness, I find it quite cliche when he states your happiness is not dependent on anyone else. This is true to some extent but what if you are dealing with a toxic individual or are surrounded by them?

I also think he should have covered a topic on giving out and loving others as well when he was talking about loving yourself. It comes off more self centered.

The only chapters I could go through was on Fourth section, which was managing yourself which covers on sleep routine and having habits. Even the first section was good to read.

It’s just the career and relationship section that turned me off quite a lot. While I still have the book with me and haven’t returned it but if you read self help a lot, I am not sure if you will find it useful.

I don’t recommend books so easily unless they deeply touch upon subjects that matter to all.

This is one book I found that speaks so much sense about all the different facets of our lives that I cannot but bow to this author with gratitude.

From writing about the foolishness of comparing with others, to becoming your own best friend, to understanding and forgiving your parents whilst following your own unique path, to following a career that you love but one that also helps the community, to recognising the importance to treating every human with respect, valuing people’s time, to developing empathy, to knowing what it is that you as a human truly want from life, this book is by far one of the best self-helps books around.

I never came across a book like this before, something that emphases the necessity of virtue, compassion, joy and spirit-of-service as much as one’s actual strife towards building a beautiful life where all of one’s dreams are fulfilled.

Truly, dear students, no matter which point in your life you are at, you must give this book a try.

Ankur Warikoo sir is someone I will highly recommend. ☺️🙏🏻

…….practical and implementable advice for 18 somethings, seeking career and relationship guidance, in Ankur's soothing elder-brotherly voice.

P.S. I hope, the trend of using 'shit' 'fuck' etc in the covers to target gen z should stop somewhere. Attracting gen Z can't be so cheap.

Ankur Warikoo’s Get Epic Shit Done is a no-nonsense, practical guide to productivity, personal growth, and decision-making. Unlike traditional self-help books, it presents insights in a conversational Q&A format, making it easy to digest and apply.

Warikoo breaks down complex life lessons into simple, actionable advice, covering topics like time management, failure, self-doubt, and relationships. His direct and relatable writing style, combined with real-life anecdotes, makes this book engaging and impactful.

While some ideas might feel familiar to those who read productivity books regularly, Warikoo’s approach ensures that even well-known concepts feel fresh and actionable. If you’re looking for a book that motivates without overwhelming, Get Epic Shit Done is a great pick.

In a day's gap, I read "Do Epic Shit" and "Get Epic Shit Done." Both books are precious from the same author, Ankur Warikoo. These two books are next-level books from an Indian author staying in India with a purely Indian background.

The book "Get Epic Shit Done" benefits students, employees, and self-employed. It touches every human aspect from dawn to dusk of a person.

I found the cadence and intonation of the audiobook's reader (none other than the author) to be very melodious.

I give five stars to this work.

Not gonna lie, these 36 questions are questions we have all googled at some point in our lives. In the form of a teacher-student dialogue, each chapter goes over all the possible doubts we might have had in that particular topic. The disclaimer does state that we already know the answers to the questions, but we simply need reassurance for that little voice in our head.

My key take-aways were:
1. Meditation is like watching all the cars whiz by--you observe them passively to acknowledge their existence. Same goes for emotions. It's okay to feel a certain way.
2. Anger always has a root cause tied to it that has more to do with how a certain situation made us feel rather than what someone did.
3. FIX. THY. SLEEP. SCHEDULE. Routines may be boring, but the results achieved through them aren't.
4. Networking and socializing work out only when the activity is genuine. Being genuinely interested in people will always be an advantage.
5. Trust overpowers skill.
6. You are responsible for your own happiness in any and every relationship.
7. Forgive, even if they haven't apologized. All that hurt and anger that you have bottled up is only going to get toxic for you. Journal those emotions and thoughts and release what's not working for you.
8. Building habits atomically >>> Becoming your ideal self out of sudden inspiration
9. Multiple streams of income can only be developed once your foundational stream of income has stability. We might be finicky but doing that job while pursuing your dream job outside of the 9-to-5 is possible. Slow and steady wins the race, remember?
10. Do more of what makes you happy.

I'm generally not a fan of self help books, but this one really stood out for me.

Divided into 4 parts, Get Epic Shit Done answers or atleast attempts to answer 36 life questions that we face everyday without knowing the answer to most of them, and not even knowing whom to reach out to for the most appropriate answers.

Written in the most easiest to understand language and flow, this essentially tracks a teacher and student interaction on these questions.
One can almost refer to this book multiple times even after your finish reading it, more like a little life manual of yours. This is the biggest USP of this book.

My favorite line from the book: "The teacher has appeared" Read it to relate to it.

Definitely recommend it to anyone who is at cross roads with their mind wandering directionless.

Clearly the book is targeted toward early 20's guys and is not for matured readers. There is nothing in the book which one would have not read about if he/she has been reading for a while and is on the higher side of age spectrum.

Author have tried to take 2-4 lines summary from major popular books and their concepts and have tried to explain/apply the same in a simple manner for his target audience. The book is in form of questions/answer format, so it's even simpler to read through rather than reading through small chapters on specific topics.

Overall if you are starting with reading habit and looking for starting in self helps books, this might be decent option. I picked since it came at no additional cost to be, but it wasn't "free" and also because I wanted to see what "Shit" is in store after his last book

I don't know why I bought this book, wasn't expecting anything great but at least an average quick read. The book gives extremely generic gyaan about all fundamental common questions humans grapple with. One of the worst books I have read in a long long time.

Yet another masterpiece from Ankur warikoo.
I was curious to understand and how is managing all the stuff he has been doing everyday.

This book is helpful for you person who wants see himself/herself in a different angle to change the perspective and complete thought process if you follow all the answers for questions you are having like how to be a morning person? how to stay fit ? and whatnot.
as explained in the book - The Teacher has appeared.

From a building habit of how to wake early in step by step process and also building the habit for reading a book and what not .

I especially love the ideas to converting all that in reality by step by step process was phenomenal.
How to get big things done and how you as individuals can also become one of Richest person in your field.

Authors writing style is very simple to understand so that you can take leverage of the ideas and ways he has expressed it the entire book.
How to work on your thought and talking with it and pick the process of writing it slower than thinking would be eye capturing to master thoughts from all.

I highly recommend to everyone who wanted to do something extra in their life .

!!! Happy readings !!!

Thank you.

I was glad that I picked up the audiobook format for this because it is completely written in a conversational format, and I am not sure how the written version would fare in comparison to the audio. If you have been a follower of Ankur, you would have heard most of the ideas he brings out through this book. However, it is structured well and it is indeed helpful to gather all good ideas in one place. Like his previous book, this one is also a quick read. The advice given is rather practical and can be implemented with ease.

This book look like come up after no many books read. If you are a reader then you think that all content you are already reading somewhere else.

If you want to read them for for audible because it’s a conversation between teacher and student on different topic related to life, career.

This is an okay book - mostly because I didn’t much enjoy the format, the content is a bit repetitive of what has already been out there, and maybe the expectations were a bit high after the first book. Basically I could have not read this book and still would have nothing to lose. I would say this is a basic self help book covering all phases and chapters of life, so might be good for someone just starting out.

I picked this book, at first looking at how the first book "Do Epic Shit" was written, in a free flowing style. I had absolutely liked it.

However, this book fails to make a mark, and is best skipped. Repeated use of the line, "The teacher has appeared" makes it very cringey. Also, the narration draws as a dialogue between a teacher and a student, something which could use a lot less drana in dialogues than how the book flows.

No...just no. DNFed it at 40% because I just can't take it anymore. The format of this book is worse than the last one. No, I don't want to read a book that has dialogues. This is not a fiction. This is a self-help book (barely). Very annoying and there are so many things I can't take that I won't even be able to point out.

I have no idea how the first one became so famous. It wasn't even a proper book, just a collection of a few tweets, some of which the people won't even agree with. And now this one. Capitalizing on the format of those catchy blogs, because people nowadays want to learn everything in some easy steps without getting into the depths and intricacies, is exactly what this author is doing.

I also think that this author, maybe unknowingly, sees the world with a black and white lens. Gray doesn't exist in his world. There are some things you just can't change and this author needs to understand that.

### Part 1: Managing Your Life
Not urgent and not important
• Important but not urgent
• Urgent but not important
• Urgent and important
A wonderful way of doing it is the Pomodoro Technique. It’s a scientifically proven technique, which suggests you divide every interval of 30 minutes into 25 minutes of work and 5 minutes of break.
During that break, do whatever you want. Check your phone.
Talk to your friend.
Meditation does not make you control your emotions. It makes you aware of them.
### Part 2: Managing Your Career
Being smart and witty can never compensate for lack of trust. Ever.
Seth Godin, who is one of my favourite thinkers, has a beautiful definition of trust: Trust isn’t about ‘nothing will ever go wrong’.
Instead, trust is that even when things go wrong, you know that everything that was needed to be done to prevent it was done and everything needed to fix it will be done.
Defining your own standards. Makes sense. And what’s the third ingredient to building trust?
Teacher: The third ingredient of building trust is sticking to your commitments.
You do what you are supposed to do without having to provide a status update.
The truth about passion, my friend, is that it is not something that is found at a particular place at a particular time.
Your passion isn’t lying somewhere, waiting to be found.
You grow it by pursuing things that interest you, and over time, an amalgamation of all of those becomes your passion.
Here is an alternative way of looking at your passion.
Spend your 20s exploring your passion.
Spend your 30s honing your passion.
Spend the rest of your life reaping the benefits of your passion.
No one should settle down. Keep up that fire. Keep moving the needle. You weren’t born to just settle down!
Heard of the word ikigai?
Student: Sounds familiar. It’s the name of a famous book, isn’t it?
Teacher: Well, the book is written on this famous concept of ikigai. In Japan, there is an island called Okinawa. A highly unusual percentage of seniors on Japan’s Okinawa Island live to the age of 100 years and beyond. Their secret, they claim, is ‘ikigai’.
Student: And what does that mean?
Teacher: Ikigai is a Japanese word. It doesn’t have a direct English translation, but loosely translated, it means ‘the reason for being’, or ‘the purpose of one’s life’.
kigai starts with a fundamental question, ‘What is it that you love doing?’
We all love doing something.
For some it could be singing, for some working with numbers, for some connecting with people, for some food.
Unfortunately for most, what we love doing is crushed along the way and replaced by ‘what the world expects us to do’.
And hence we become engineers, CAs, lawyers and doctors.
Not because that is what we love.
But because that is what we are told we should do.
So of the things you love, which are the ones you are good at?
Student: Hmmm. Interesting. What will be the definition of good here?
Teacher: That is a good question.
The answer lies within.
You may find yourself good at something already.
Or you may sense the potential of becoming good at something.
Student: If this is my own assessment, could it not be false?
Teacher: Potentially. Hence I would also recommend asking the same people you used to prepare the list of all that you love.
Ask your family, friends, colleagues what are the things that you are good at.
Student: So things that I love and things that I am good at. I can see where this is headed. Is that my ikigai?
Teacher: Want to know the truth?
This isn’t your ikigai.
But this is your passion.
Student: Sorry, what? I thought ikigai was my passion.
Teacher: Recall that the loose meaning of ikigai is the reason for being. Your true reason to exist.
According to ikigai, things that you love and are good at comprise your passion. But they are still incomplete when it comes to defining the true purpose of your being. There are 2 missing elements still.
Student: Which are?
Teacher: Number 3 is ‘Is it something that the world needs?’
Out of the things that you love doing and are good at, not everything will be something that the world needs or cares about.
Student: But how do I know whether something is needed by the world or not?
Teacher: Just as for the other elements, this definition too is personal.
You define the need and its importance. Imagine working in a job that you love and are good at, but every day you feel as if the world doesn’t really need this job to exist.
You lack meaning, a sense of purpose.
It nags you, but you never truly understand why.
Input in your new job means what you are doing and how you are showcasing that you are capable of getting a job done. It all boils down to 3 essential ingredients:
1. Understanding the culture: Observing how the system functions. How does the company work? How are decisions made?
2. Listening intently: Listen not with the intent to respond but rather to understand. You are not mute but an active spectator of everything happening around you.
3. Reach out to people: Reach out to the staff within your department and outside of it. Engage with them. How do they do their job? What makes them good? What makes them not so good? What do they like about their work? What do they not like?

Get Epic Shit Done is a self-help book that takes the form of a dialogue between a student and a teacher. The book is divided into 36 chapters, each of which addresses a different life question. Some of the questions that are covered include:

How do I set goals that I can actually achieve?
How do I deal with procrastination?
How do I manage my time effectively?
How do I build better relationships?
How do I find my purpose in life?
The book is written in a conversational and engaging style, and Warikoo's insights are both practical and insightful. He draws on his own experiences as well as the experiences of others to offer advice that is both realistic and inspiring.

One of the things that I really appreciate about Get Epic Shit Done is that it doesn't sugarcoat things. Warikoo is honest about the fact that achieving your goals is hard work, but he also provides you with the tools and strategies that you need to succeed. He doesn't promise you a quick fix, but he does offer you a roadmap that can help you get where you want to go.

If you're looking for a self-help book that will challenge you and help you to achieve your goals, then I highly recommend Get Epic Shit Done. It's a book that I've found to be both helpful and inspiring, and I think it can help you to live a more epic life.

Here are some additional thoughts on the book:

I love the way that Warikoo uses real-life examples to illustrate his points. This makes the book much more relatable and helps you to see how the principles that he teaches can be applied in your own life.
I also appreciate the fact that Warikoo doesn't just tell you what to do. He also gives you the tools and resources that you need to make changes in your own life.
Overall, I think Get Epic Shit Done is an excellent self-help book. It's well-written, engaging, and insightful. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for ways to improve their life.
Here are some of the key takeaways from the book:

Set clear and specific goals.
Break down your goals into smaller, more manageable steps.
Create a plan and stick to it.
Be persistent and don't give up.
Learn from your mistakes.
Celebrate your successes.
If you're looking for a book that will help you to achieve your goals and live a more epic life, then I highly recommend Get Epic Shit Done by Ankur Warikoo.

Well, I prefer reading non-fiction over fiction as it not only entertains but also educates me. In pursuit of such informative and insightful works that expand my knowledge, I picked up "Get Epic Shit Done". The book is engaging and accessible, with a conversational tone that makes the book easy to read and understand.

The book takes the form of a dialogue between a student and a teacher, which allows the authors to present complex ideas in a way that is relatable and easy to follow. The language used in the book is clear and concise, with a focus on straightforwardly conveying the main ideas.

The 4 parts of the book are:
🔸Managing your life
🔸Managing your career
🔸Managing people
🔸Managing yourself

These are the essential skill that can lead to greater success and satisfaction in all areas of life such as achieving personal goals, improving relationships, or excelling in a career.

🔻"The worst use of your time is comparing yourself to others."

The guide to improving communication skills is very well articulated in the book, with a special emphasis on writing skills, listening skills, and practice. It talks about fix mindset and a growth mindset, and how to make decisions and be prepared for the consequences if things do not go as planned.

In addition, the book provides insights into choosing the right career and overcoming the fear of change. It highlights the importance of self-evaluating and upskilling to match the rapidly changing world.

The book overall is a delight. I am adding some of the quotes which the author highlighted in the book.

🔻"When we waste time, we make ourselves feel guilty, which makes us waste even more time."
🔻"Reading replaces mindless entertainment with learning and eventually leads to enlightenment."
🔻"If comparison led you to where you wanted to go, people would do nothing other than compare."
🔻"If you don't ask, the answer is always no!"
🔻"No one loves adhering to routines. But everyone LOVES the results routine brings."
