s/t: Builders of Our World (The Story of Man II) Classic Archeology; Roman Archeology. A beautiful volume in the Story of Man having 541 Illustrations, 440 in full color & 16 maps.
The best way to describe this whole series is a tour through the ancient world. The writers went on trips through the areas they’re chronicling and they compare modern to ancient in interesting ways, complete with illustrations, photos, and maps. That said, these books were originally published in the 1960s, so it’s important to note that some of the information contained may be out of date/misleading. I personally didn’t note much out of place from what I know, but I am not a classicist and couldn’t really, though I do know a lot of new information surrounding the ancient world has been discovered in the intervening 50 years.
