We've been having a lot of rainy days here lately so I thought we'd try this book out. The story has potential that I feel isn't really harnessed (a girl is stuck inside on a rainy day and everything she tries to do to get rid of the boredom goes wrong). They end up going to the mall at the end?? There are some cute Easter eggs in the illustrations though, with her cat doing funny things and her mom looking in on her with amusement.
Little sister of the little critter keeps getting in trouble for waking the baby on a rainy day. From her point of view she can't understand why she is getting in trouble. Infer from the pictures why.
Just a cute little book about a family stuck inside on a, you guessed it, rainy day. This book series gets some flack for the Critter children in it being “bad”, but most kids will find it relatable. In the story, Little Sister is just trying to cure her boredom and cannot see the connection between her fun and the trouble it causes. Capitalism saves the day as after a few chaotic scenes at the Critter Household, everyone is satisfied with a trip to the mall. The artwork has many fun details that kids will enjoy discovering upon repeated read throughs. Just a Rainy Day is a solid read for early elementary students.
This was a gift from our neighbor who read it to her grandchildren. It was funny from my point of view as an adult. Not for younger children since there isn't much to catch their attention. I didn't really like how the little girl gets her way because she keeps being bad, even though some of the bad things are trying to be helpful.
