My entire life has been a lie, and even my sire never knew. The truth of my abilities has been hidden from both of us for centuries, but now it's out.
I have the power to kill Cain.
My blood is both the key to fulfilling his dream of subjugating the world, and ensuring his doom. Unfortunately, Immy’s second betrayal has fractured my pack, and left me firmly in his clutches.
My thralls will come for me.
Once I’m free, we’ll fight to the last breath to ensure that Cain’s unnaturally long life comes to an end. Permanently.
This is a reverse harem novel intended for readers aged 18 years and over. Book 3 of 3 in the Daughter of Cain Series. Please check trigger warnings.
Marie Mistry is a reality challenged reverse harem romance author whose books are full of pirates, magic, and spicy adventures. When she's not writing, you can usually find her curled up with a game or a book and a large cup of tea. She lives in a wonky cottage in Kent with her other half and a super sweet shepherd named Meg.
Definitely my favorite of the series! Actual rating: 4.5 ⭐️
What to expect: - Vampires/ghouls/lycans - reverse harem (6) - omegaverse (knots) - interesting story/plot - set in future - great characters, especially mmc’s!
The final book in the trilogy. A Bonus Epilogue set 17 years after the end of the book can also be found on my Facebook Reader Group. A full list of triggers and content warnings for the series has been finalised on my website www.mariemistry.com/triggers for those who may need it <3
Miss Mistry, it is very hard to find a book that views everyone's situations from different angles. Everyone is just trying to survive and you showed that even though we are rooting for the main characters, it always has two sides to the story. Like Callie, I didn't know whether to hate her or not completely dislike her. I'm so glad I waited until this series was finished to read it because I would've been so mad from the cliffhangers. I also like how there weren't any cliches. Just because someone is seen as shallow doesn't mean that is what they are really like. I like that we were able to understand the feelings of all the characters involved in this book. It's all about survival and that is similar to how the real world works. I also love how everyone knows when they can't beat someone that has more experience and power and had to outsmart them instead. Usually in other books, the heros would have a boost of power from their anger, but I like how you kept it realistic that anyone has their limits, especially a witch that just found out she had powers. Evie didn't try to fight Cain on her own, she had her pack and help from other packs and she and Callie tricked him into his end. She knew that he was an arrogant man so she lured him in instead of trying to fight someone older and stronger than her on her own. Overall, this book is AWESOME!!!
After that previously tense finish, an unexpected lifeline is thrown to Evie from someone unexpected. Now back with her pack, the repercussions of all of this mean it’s all hands on deck to work through this unexpected setback. This was jam-packed and Evie and her pack now go all out in their attempt to bring Cain down. Evie is attempting to reclaim her heritage as a witch and we also have some unexpected spanners in the works as well.
The spice was ramped up here and this one was red hot as well as action-packed. The eventual finale was tense but so good and the epilogue was the icing for sure. I’ve enjoyed this series a whole lot and would now definitely read more by this particular author.
This was such a good series, there was still a lot of relationship development whilst still keeping the plot interesting with twists. I would love some spin off series from this world, as it was really fascinating! With the MCs constantly on guard, and having to keep moving, the exhaustion was real for them and as the reader I felt the anxiety for them too. The author really is a great story teller, and I just loved the world that she created for this. As each book progressed, I struggled to choose which character to feel attached to the most. They were all so well developed that they felt three dimensional, but in the end I just loved them all.
What a good series this was, engaging and full of action. Though there were times I wished they'd stop f*cking like bunnies and get to it, but they all had tension to relieve considering the many battles and trials they were facing. Cain can be killed and is finally taken down and all because Evie learned about her heritage. I'm glad she was able to save the day and even use her newfound skills to make their HEA even better. There were a couple of the guys who felt interchangeable considering there were six of them but Evie tamed them all plus with the help of an Omega everything did not fall on her shoulders. Glad she gets her HEA after almost two centuries of misery and imprisonment.
I let it all go and fling the depths of my unhinged devotion back at her... Maybe now she understands. My obsession with Evie is a feral thing, stronger than any feelings I once held for my human wife. I'd walk into the sun a hundred times for her.
"Crowned by Blood" is the final book in the "Daughter of Cain" series, one of those series I wish I could start again for the first time, just to experience all the emotions I've felt while reading it again, in full force. There are no words to review this series, in a way I can do true justice to this author's awesome work, but I'll try.
With this final book, all the remaining mysteries are resolved, all lingering questions answered and these characters finally find their way to their own happy ever after. The road to get there, is a brutal one though and none of these character are truly spared. I love the originality of this series, and how all the parts finally fit together. I could have never imagined the origin story to Cain, and what would be necessary to finally end his terror. I swear this series managed to keep on surprising me until the very end.
While I rarely ever do rereads of series, I swear this is one I'm adding to the list to get back to in the future, and I hope the emotions will get to me just as much as they did the first time I read this series. For me, this is this author's best work I've read so far and I want to highly recommend it to whoever reads this! And to the author, if she reads this: thank you for this masterpiece.
The last book in the series and oh... revenge has been long coming in this one especially for those who have waited what feels like eternity for their ultimate strike. I appreciated the time it took the FMC to embrace this new version of herself and considering the psychological agony she has endured, it has been quite the rewarding experience following her journey as she rediscovers her strengths and allows herself to look i to a very different future.
☑️ recollections of past trauma, family deaths ☑️ some gore ☑️ deaths of characters outside the harem
✅ no OW/OW drama
This book saved the series for me, I almost didn’t read it after Book 2. This series is another where there’s parts I loved (the smut is much better in this book) and parts I didn’t (plot inconsistencies and predictability).
It started out very Finn heavy and he seemed like more of a main character than Eve after the Gid/Fin drama of Book 2. Thankfully things evened out and that plot was nicely resolved in a way I enjoyed. The guys unfortunately continue to talk about Eve more like she’s a weapon than someone they love until 65% into the book. The final journey to learn how to kill Cain was interesting although the heroes, for supposedly being great operatives, walked into way too many very predictable traps.
Around 65% the writing became a little sloppy with previous world building forgotten, plus some tstl moments by both the heroine and the betas. You can see the discrepancies in my Notes.
As for the characters, Frost was supposed to be Eves first love, I needed more connection, conversation, forgiveness and definitely more intimacy between these two second chance characters. It felt like the catalyst for the entire story was shoved under the rug in favor of plot and MM action with Finn/Silas/Gid.
Vane was a character that if he was never written it wouldn’t change the story at all. Draven however, my lovely knife happy obsessive Draven, he could have his own book, he definitely helped add a star to this series.
The epilogue was sweet and lighthearted, I loved it. Overall a 3.75 which would have been a 4.5 with better harem balance, character descriptions, more feelings and smarter MCs. I’d still recommend it as one of the better Polys I’ve read in awhile.
I'm not a big vampire fan but I did enjoy this series overall. The epilogue however was a major let down, despite knowing it was coming. There was too much emphasis on how sad Evie is about not being able to get pregnant and be a mother for it not to have happened. I did almost DNF because I was anticiating the pregnancy and I hate it in books.
Actually one of the reasons I had enjoyed the series was because the lore had the FMC infertile. I thought I was safe from the ridiculous notion that you can only have a HEA after popping out a baby.
"“Do you think any of this has been easy?” I demand. “Do you think I enjoy knowing how many will die tomorrow? I have news for you, sister. This is war. People die. I’ve seen it a hundred times, and it’s about time you did too. Maybe then you’ll be less critical and understand I’ve got to make the least bad decision I can and pray that I can live with the outcome.”"
***** Review with spoilers *****
First of all… are these Finn or Evie’s books? If you're looking for romance and care and love towards Evie, you came to the wrong book, because this is Finley's book for that matter. All everyone does is go around Finn, treating him like the center of everything, while Evie is on the sidelines, receiving whatever is left. Finn gets the most protection and attention, he’s the one everyone worries about, he gets the bigger room and everything else. Evie…? She doesn’t even get a room to herself on their house. She’s just the relief between Finley and Gideon so they can sleep together without Gideon losing his control. An amazing way to show that Evie is supposed to be the protagonist.
And since we’re talking about it… Evie and her Thralls don’t get any kind of development. The Thrall bond just snaps into place after very basic situations, with no real time together to build anything beyond sex (because all the relationship focus is on Finley, the oh-so-precious boy). It feels like Evie is constantly pushed aside, never truly cared for or valued until something bad happens to her, and then they all suddenly show up. It’s almost like, “Here Evie, take the scraps of our effort after we’ve given everything to Finn, be used by us the same way you were by Cain — just with the excuse that this time it’s love.” Even her Thralls that don’t have a connection with Finley don’t get any real development with her. It’s a mess that feels like it only exists to create sex scenes. I saw someone say it would’ve been better if Finley, Silas, and Gideon were one harem and Evie, Draven, Frost, and Vane were another, and honestly — it’s true. At least then we might’ve had some actual development in their relationships, and the story wouldn’t be so consumed by how special Finn supposedly is.
It got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore, so I just skipped every interaction between Finn and Gideon alone. And I skipped even faster through the sex scenes, because the relationships between Evie and her Thralls were so underworked that I couldn’t care less about them having sex.
And don’t even get me started on the personalities. Vane’s entire identity is BDSM and punishing Evie. Draven is the grumpy, closed-off one who only shows up for sex or fighting. Silas exists to prank Draven and pick up Finn’s leftovers. Gideon is a control freak whose whole life revolves around kissing Finn’s ass. Finn is the delicate, fragile flower constantly being pampered by everyone. Frost is the tragic lover who lost her once and is addicted to “fixing things.” That’s it. That’s all of them. And Evie doesn’t escape this shallowness either—she’s running around trying to fix everything, to shed the version of herself Cain created, and to be loved by people who don’t actually put her first. She’s described as this fearless, ruthless vampire warrior, but in the end she just bends to the pack’s needs while they carry on with their lives and their obsession with Finn. (Yes, Finn is a really sore point for me.)
On top of that, too many things happen too easily or too fast, so nothing carries weight. Even her rescue by Callie is like that, and Cain’s death is the most glaring example. After so long of him being built up as the villain, it only takes five seconds in battle, blood and some herbs for him to die? It was underwhelming to a crazy degree.
And since this is the last book of the trilogy, I can’t not mention the bigger problems across the whole series. Important threads and relationships were never properly developed, pacing was all over the place, and so many moments that could’ve hit hard were either rushed or brushed aside. Instead of making Evie the true center of her own story, everything kept getting diverted to Finn, leaving her growth and her relationships thin and unsatisfying.
In the end, this trilogy had potential, but the way everything played out left me more frustrated than satisfied. Instead of giving Evie the spotlight she deserved, the books kept circling around Finn, rushing through major plot points, and leaving the relationships shallow. By the time I closed the last page, I wasn’t excited or emotional — I was just trying to finish the book.
Main characters: Evie, Gideon, Finley, Silas, Vane, Frost and Draven.
Tropes: reverse harem/why choose, moraly grey, chosen one, omegaverse (one of the guys, tho).
Supernatural types: Evie - hybrid of witch and vampire, Gideon - alpha lycan, Finley - omega lycan, Silas beta lycan, Vane and Draven - hybrid of lycan and vampire, Frost - hybrid of vampire and ghoul.
Hard to finish, and disappointing to end on. Did we get our tidy close? Yes. Cain is killed, albeit in a rather anticlimactic way, considering he’s been the bad guy for THREE BOOKS. There was plenty of action in here, much more than book 2, but by halfway I was over it. Eve is a War General with over a thousand years experience. She should not be this stupid. Why build a home base that you know will be attacked within the month? Why ask people to flock there? Who was giving Cain the info? Who was the resistance’s leak? I didn’t see much of a strategist in her moves. I saw a fair amount of winging-it! Also the lack of regard for the thousands of deaths astounded me. The mass killings was brushed over with little regard.
At least with a trilogy we had the space to flesh out the romance between all characters. It was better than average but not stellar. Eve was a disappointment. Cain, the bad guy, was the GOAT. Yeah he was evil personified but dude could strat with the best of em’. Ivan was a small blimp on the scale of things, and yet so important. Another disappointment. No character growth. Nothing. Grigoriy was cool but too convenient. A ghoul who was ready to die, right when we needed a sacrifice.
The humour didn’t really hit with me either.
Series as a whole - 🌟 3.8 Book 1 was fantastic. Well within 4 stars. Book 2 was meh. A little boring, but willing to wait for everything to come together in the next. Book 3… - 🌟 3.7

I love how this series concluded. Things went a bit off-plan in the Eden Park scene, but in a way that made the ending much more satisfying.
I think I actually liked this series more than The Deadwood.
Evie and Nilsa are both fantastic FMCs, but I think the guys in DoC have much more depth and presence than the Deadwood guys (aside from Val). Evie's guys are all likeable in their own ways, and none of them blend together or feel like they could be combined into a single character. They also had a more balanced amount of screen time. I've read very few OV books, so this may be common in that genre, but I loved how protective all the guys were of Finn. In so many other series, they would be trying to stifle and guard Evie 24/7, but in this series, they actually respected her strength and abilities and, for the most part, treated her as an equal in battle.
If I had to pick favorites, Finn would definitely be up there, I also loved Silas's joy for life, and Frost's centuries-long devotion to Evie. The other three had a lot going for them as well.
I’m but a simple book worm: vampires? I’m in. vampires in a RH? I’m SO in.
I feel like Marie Mistry was basically like “man, I love the Underworld movies. I’m gonna write them as a book series, but give Selene/Sonja a harem,” & I was so here for it. (not in a bad way. in a, heavily inspired by the awesomeness that is the Underworld franchise way).
lots of action, dark, intriguing world building, an FMC that won’t annoy you at every turn, & a plot to keep you on your toes, this series was a super fun action, romance, romp with almost dystopian vibes.

Wow I actually finished a trilogy for an HR and stayed impressed with the plot and the development. That’s very rare. The other nice thing is that everything was so well written that I was able to critique the actual storyline itself. Which is, I was annoyed with the whole mixing of hybrids thing her entire pack had. Like that’s so dumb. Somehow we managed to have these hunks get the good part of hybrid then for some reason Mia get the short end of the stick just cause? And why would Cain mixed her blood up for? Like tf.
But good sex shit tho. Loved it.

Starting from right where book 2 left off! It's intense and oh my gosh! Gideon!?! Oh wow Callista! Oh my gosh! All that Eve went through to find out info in the grimoire for it to be There!? Wow! The info from that!!! Oh my gosh the part where Samuel returns and his gift worked faster than he anticipated was priceless!! Ohhh Girgoriy how interesting! Damn!! Callie with the help and name calling at the end of the battle!! Love it!! Oh damn... Callie... AHHH OH MY GOSH!! THE END!?! HOW PERFECT!!!!! LOVED THIS!!!
This was a fantastic conclusion to this series! So many interesting things happened in this book and many questions were answered. I really enjoyed watching Eve learn more about her past and her craft. There was a lot of heartache for our heroin before her triumph in the end, but luckily she had all her men there to help her and I can guarantee you will love the epilogue. Happy Reading Everyone
My friend Candice and I continued this series ONLY to find out how Cain dies and that’s it. I already felt book 2 getting difficult and now this book was just plain painful to get through. I just had no enthusiasm to pick up this book and continue with it. The plot wasn’t keeping me engaged anymore and it makes me mad because book 1 was so unique and interesting and then it’s like “what happened?”

Why do all books have to end with a pregnancy??? Why do they need to have kids?? Anyway. I liked the book. I knew Samuel would die and Callie would take his place. Although Cain died a little too easily. Like c'mon, a push? That's all it took. But okay ig he did cause a lot of damage before. If not to the mc but the others. All in all I enjoyed this series, even if NONE of the intimate scenes gave me butterflies. Anyway, imma find sm else to read now. Tata.peace.

Okay so, this is a bit weird but… I really liked it, yet I could help but want to be done with this series. I think the author dragged it out a bit too much. The spice is great.
I’m not too sure how I feel about this rn. It was good so if you’re craving vampires, it’ll be great. I think I had a bit of a hard time believing their bonds with her, especially some of them. She doesn’t seem to spend enough time with 2 of them so I’m not really sure where the love came from in the first place 🫠
This book was a little bit harder for me to stick with, I was skimming by the end bc I was really just not super invested in what was happening, I did enjoy the epilogue though. The second book was the best in terms of keeping my attention, but overall an enjoyable read
I’ve been demolishing everything by this author. I haven’t found a single book I’ve disliked. If you’re reading this, stop and go back to writing the next book for liminal. FYI caught a very familiar illogical pregnancy trope at the end. 0 complaints, I ate it up. Just know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
I’m satisfied with how this book turned out, but I don’t love it. I wish we’d gotten to see more of the “After Cain” story after the catfight they called a final battle. All we got was a chapter that was years after the events of the main story. I’m a bit disappointed with that.
I thought this series was already complete when I started it. Now I’ve finished book two and I’m dying. DYING. And apparently I’ll continue dying until sometime in November (if I didn’t just jinx the expected pub date). 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
3.5 stars. I didn't like the epilogue--it seemed out of character to me that she wouldn't discuss something as huge as a pregnancy with the guys first. Also, I'm tired of the idea that we can't have a happily ever after without popping out babies.
I love Evie and her thrall. This series was so exciting, thrilling and yes you needed tissues through some of it. Pick up the series now you’ll be thrilled you did.
This book was alright but much like the rest of the series it just didn't do much for me. It was a bit too predictable and relied too heavily on Finn using technology or "resistance resources" to solve every problem. It did a good job of tying up the storylines though.
