Stella Aldren, a talented witch from Salem, has been chosen by her coven to fulfill a seventeenth-century curse that can only end in death.

If Stella doesn't want to get herself killed, she needs to find Ethan Mather—the infamous witch hunter's descendant who's running for governor—pluck a hair from his head, make a poppet of his sexy-as-sin self, and...strike him dead.

No muss. No fuss. But when Stella stalks her prey at a political gala, sparks fly. And it's more than their combustible sexual attraction. There’s an unforeseen and unknown magic swirling around the mysterious and devastatingly handsome candidate, and Stella can't bring herself to kill him.

At least not until she discovers who Ethan Mather really is.

Unfortunately, Stella isn't the only curious witch in town. A second coven from Boston's underbelly has Ethan in their sights, putting Stella in the middle of a war between covens. One that wants him dead. And one that wants his power for their own dark deeds.

Now Stella is faced with an impossible choice: kill the enemy she's falling for…or betray her coven by letting him live, putting herself in their crosshairs instead.

Either way, she loses, because if Ethan lives, it’s only a matter of time before dark magic engulfs him. And that could destroy them both.

Fans of K.F. Breene, Kim Richardson, and Charissa Weaks will soon become obsessed with this enemies-to-lovers, steamy paranormal romance.

USA Today bestselling author A.S. Green lives in chilly Minnesota and spends the all-too-short summers on Lake Superior, which is the muse for her paranormal and contemporary romances. She writes complex characters, action-packed plots, and snarky in-your-face banter. And, of course, loads of steamy love scenes.

I stumbled across this story via a one day only free books link and the premise sounded really good. The book opens with a watch named Stella who owns a magic tricks shop and her coven urgently meets there one day to discuss how to get rid of Bishops curse. They summon Bridget Bishop herself and it's interpreted that they have to kill Ethan Mather who is currently running for governor and that Stella has to be the one to carry out the task.

She figured it should be an easy task but she learns something about Ethan that changes the narrative and instead tries to figure out his story while also sort of, trying to ignore but it's really hard, the sexual attraction they have with one another. On top of that she has to prevent one coven from killing him and convincing her own coven that maybe they got the message wrong.

I really enjoyed the world building. It was presented very well and was rich in Salem witch history. I loved how the author broke down the different types of witches there are and just overall witch law when it comes to wielding the elements or performing spells out of grimoires. I also really enjoyed Ethan and Stella's relationship growth. It felt very natural and was very sexy.

The ending is left open ended and had me diving for book 2. All the books are available on KU.

"Do you feel that? I felt it the moment I saw you. It's like there's a magnet...pulling me closer to you."

4.5 stars!

I've been excited to read Anne's first venture into magical witchy romance, and I was not disappointed! The beginning was a little slow for me as we learn about the prophecy that is set to change Stella's life forever, but once she begins her journey to Boston, I was completely enraptured by her story. Stella was a fantastic heroine; I loved her steadfast and curious nature. She wasn't afraid to go against what she was told was true, even though the possibilities had the power to upend her entire life. Ethan was such a swoony hero; handsome, charismatic, and just generally a nice guy, Stella couldn't help but be pulled in by his sexy charm. The immediate chemistry between Ethan and Stella was steamy and irresistible, but I loved their quieter moments together as they kept seeking each other out. The ending was nonstop action, sweet romance, and unexpected twists, and I cannot wait for the next book!

Tropes: enemies-to-lovers, forbidden love, fated mates, cinnamon-roll hero, magical heroine, hidden secrets, magical prophecy, found family, slow burn, mild cliffhanger ending (part of a series), steamy🔥

My Ethan, the charming and sexy gubernatorial candidate after your heart...

I enjoyed this book from AS Green. I discovered her books last year through TikTok, and I really appreciate her writing style. Green understands pacing well, and it never felt rushed, and it never felt like the story got “stuck.”

Wicked Coven’s premise is almost a one-sided enemies to lovers, but it’s no spoiler alert that this dissipates quickly. (It’s in the summary.) There is only one slightly-steamy scene in this book in the form of a dream sequence.

This isn’t a slow-burn, either, because the h and H are drawn to each other from Ground Zero, but aside from a couple of kisses, that’s all we see in this book.

The only thing that I wished had been handled a little differently was the scene where the h and H meet. There’s no way she can fly under the radar in a red dress, and if the whole point is to be anonymous, that flew out the window with red. But I also didn’t hate it, either.

Witches, centuries-long grudges, and what happens when death is on the line. What choices will our heroine make? We only see the start of that, because it does end on a cliffhanger. (And one I’m not hating.)

I read about a book a day, and this was a nice cozy read. Not too much angst, but good tension and character development. The only thing that felt out of left field for me is the relationship between Stella and her little sister, Jade. They’re thick as thieves, until they’re not. I felt Jade’s immediate reactions were a bit OTT for the depth of their relationship. But then, I have a younger brother, so what do I know about sisters?

I look forward to reading the next one.

Note: I was given an e-ARC for my honest review. I’m too cranky to give anything other than my true opinion. :D

*4.5 stars! Fast paced and full of secrets, Wicked Coven was an amazing first book to Green’s new series, Cursed Descendants. I have to admit, it was a bit slow to start for me when learning the background of what sets the plot into motion, but once Stella set off on her mission, I was hooked! Stella is an easily likable character and I loved how she wasn’t afraid to question what she grew up knowing as new elements came to light. You could feel the chemistry between Stella and Ethan almost instantly and even with the hesitancy that Stella felt, their connection was undeniable. The story is very well paced, with a good amount of action, romance and world building. Although it is set in Massachusetts, the Magic system is anything but basic and Stella’s Magic is very intriguing to not only me, but the other characters in the story as well. If you enjoy tropes like enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, forbidden love, ancient prophecies and hidden secrets, then you will enjoy this series! With the story ending on a gentle cliff hanger, I am excited to dive into the next book to see how things pan out for these two.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, this is only my second or so A. S. Green book, but now a firm favourite, she writes such addictive and engaging fast-paced stories and although cliffhangers are involved, I forgive all because I need the next.

Stella our main character owns a spellshop in Salem MA! She’s a witch who belongs to a coven. Everyone from the coven is descended from witches who were killed at the Salem witch trials.

Everything takes a turn when the Bishops curse games into fruition. But the person Stella must kill might just turn out to be her undoing.

This book was fast paced, short and to the point. Everything happens in the span of a few days and keeps you engrossed.

What a charming yet suspenseful book! Had me on edge the entire time I had questions and theories. I really appreciated the build of the plot and the way the characters personalities were portrayed. I was questioning Ethan toward the end .. like how does he not know anything and why has he not questioned the situation he is in with Stella he must have questions for how she treats him?!?!? But the ending made it all clear. Already downloaded next book I must know what Ethan knew and what he plans to do about this moving forward.
I also liked that we had some history of Salem and her Coven without dwelling to far in it was just a perfect amount of history and present.

This is book one of the Cursed Descendants series and the main character is Stella Aldren, a witch whose magic is a bit erratic and short lasting, and has opened up her own magic shop called Broomstix, in Salem, Massachusetts, a place her family has a long history in. One of her ancestors was one of the witches killed in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. One of the other witches killed at that time, Bridget Bishop, placed a curse on Cotton Mather and any of his descendants who might seek power or a political position, because of his crusade against witches at the time. The Salem Coven that Stella is part of, and which takes part in her home above the magic shop, are part of the curse. One of their coven has to kill any descendant of Cotton Mather, or they will all face death themselves for failing to carry out this edict. When one of the coven sees an article about Ethan Mather and his connection to the Salem Witches Trails, stating that he is a direct descendant and standing for the position of governor, an emergency meeting of the coven is called. One of their number calls on the spirit of one of the witches of that time, for guidance on who should take on this important task.

Unfortunately for Stella, the flame points directly to her, but the spirit also had a few words to say which seemed to concern Stella about the actions she is now being pushed to do. About one of the only bits of her magic that Stella can make successfully, are her poppets, small figure shaped stuffed items that she must enclose a personal item of the person targeted within. When the stuffed poppet is made as life like as possible and has something like a hair enclosed, she would prick the heart to kill someone, while she is miles away! The coven help pay for her to travel to Boston, where Ethan is based and working a few events, and she dresses up to attend a political gala he is speaking at. The only problem is that as soon as she approaches him, the attraction between them is almost electric! Stella can feel a blue stream coming from her chest and moving towards him and thinks her magic is going a bit haywire. One of her special magical skills is to be able to see magic in others and identify if people have magic and what kind, prophetic, physical or personal. She scans Ethan but thinks he is fully human, with no magic whatsoever. Her only problem is sensing some sort of magic in the room, but not being able to identify who or where they are.

Ethan talks to her and insists on a dance with her, where she gets to know him a bit better and all the good he seems to do. Nothing about him makes her think she should be killing him, even if he is a descendant of Cotton! She can’t bring herself to do it and her younger sister Jade is her worst accuser and says she should have been the chosen one, because she would have done it by now and saved the rest of the coven. She manages to push the coven’s worries away and stating will be seeing him the next day and should have a better chance to grab a hair from him then. But it seems she is not the only witch who is after Ethan, as she gets waylaid by an older woman who is worried that Stella is there to steal an object of power from her and her coven. The more she gets to know Ethan, the more she is confused, as she finds his apartment door protected by a very strong ward! She’s falling for him and now finds herself in the middle of a war between her own coven who wants him dead, and this Boston coven who have links to something very dangerous they want unlocked and Ethan is the key. Unfortunately for Stella, her own coven will take matters into their own hands and the High Priestess has her own conclusions as to why Stella is finding it hard to complete her task. There is a fourth type of magic which is extremely rare and was part of why she and her sister lost both their parents within days, and left Stella not wanting aby sort of relationship or love. She has to take actions against her own, however difficult that could be, but there are more surprises to come as Ethan has secrets of his own to reveal to her. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens with them. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Have you ever read a book that just grabbed you and wouldn't let you go? Found a book that kept you up til you couldn't keep your eyes open any longer and then had to set your alarm to 5 am so you could get up early enough to finish the book before you went to work? NO? Then check this book out and you’ll share my experience because Yeah.... this book will do that to you. And then, at 6 am when you read the ending....aghhhhh…. I literally growled at my Kindle and stifled a shriek because I now have to wait until October for Book 2 and I didn’t want to wake my family. AND YES my thoughts were in that order!

This book has everything that I look for. There are characters that are so well written and real that each one speaks with their own voice (and even accent in my mind), there is action that is so vivid with just enough detail to ensure you can literally see it play out in your Mind's Eye, but not so much that it slows the riotous pace of the narrative. There are also spirits that are summoned, hidden witches that are discovered, and found talismans that spur on a quest to discover concealed truths, not to mention the sweetest slow burn romance that I have read. Although the romance is just beginning between Stella and Ethan, the sexual power and the recognition magic between them is so palpable that you’ll curl your toes as you read the scenes between them, because even before anything happens you know that when these two finally unite the universe will literally ripple from the power and force of the union, and there is no telling what the fallout will be. AND, as if all that is not enough, you will be hanging on the edge of a cliff by your fingertips after the reveal that Ethan gives Stella as literally the last line of the book!

I am so glad that I found this ARC to read as I might have missed this book because I fell out of Urban Fantasy. However, because of this book I'm dusting off my “Membership Card to Shifter and Urban Fantasy Club”. Thank you to the author for giving me a pulse pounding read that I will be thinking about until October when I find out what is really in store for Ethan, Stella, the Salem Coven!.

Wicked Coven by A S Green is the perfect start to a witchy romance series filled with action, witchcraft, suspense, mystery, a slow burning romance and spice with a pinch of humor, that digs it’s hooks deep in you. My only complaint about this book is that it was too short and I felt as though we only skimmed the surface of whatever mystery the author has in store for us. Actually I was pleasantly surprised how the author managed to weave a satisfactorily comprehensive story albeit compact in such a short amount of pages. It only attests to her talent as a writer and her writing skills because I’ve read many short novels in the past that crashed and burned miserably. I also loved the fact that the author was an actual descendant of one of the original Salem witches because I knew from the start she was going to do everything in her power to give justice to the story and I was absolutely right.

The writing was beautiful as well as the story within. The mystery surrounding Bridget Bishop’s curse, The Boston coven’s grimoire and Ethan’s hidden magic was skillfully integrated to the story leaving me wanting to know more. It kind of didn’t sit well with me how easily the coven decided that Ethan had to die because of the curse, given that the author portrayed the current Salem coven as harmonious and peaceful. No matter what the curse is or how gruesome the consequences would be if they break the curse, we were still talking about a stone cold murder of a human being, especially someone (although a direct descendant) who had nothing to do with the original Salem Witch Hunt.

Both Stella’s and Ethan’s characters were relatable and had depth. It was really easy to root for them. Their romance was beautifully written as well. I loved how Ethan wasn’t sure whether he was rushing things with Stella and Stella’s reluctance to fall for the man who she was instructed to harm. The side characters were a great addition to the story too although I wish we got to know both Salem and Boston coven members more. I really hope in the next installments we’d get a good grasp on their stories too.

To conclude the review, Wicked Coven is a great witchy romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a great start to a good series.

The good: this is very fast-paced and zips along well, so even though there was a lot I didn't like, I managed to finish quickly.

What I did not like:
• I feel there's not enough texture in the worldbuilding. There's some neat explanation re the type of power the witches in this story have but that's about it. It's not atmospheric nor did it feel baked-in enough in the main character (MC). The magic did not feel intuitive for me, rather it was only present on the surface.
- When Stella (the MC) and Ethan (the love interest, LI) first meet, Stella senses another witchy presence near her. A few paragraphs hinting at this, and any astute reader would have guessed that the other witch was Ethan himself. This is only revealed a few chapter later. Am not sure why the author did not let her MC come to this conclusion earlier, and made me think the MC was not very smart.
- MC was dickmatized very early on and nothing had even happened between them
- I was so frustrated with how the MC behaved. She had one job to do and she let herself be dickmatized. I wasn't buying her rationalizations.
- the MC is a liar. She could have avoided many complications by being more honest with her coven instead of going behind their backs and taking it upon herself to unravel mysteries
- i hated this whole side arc of deflecting blame and putting suspicion toward another coven, the Boston coven. Girl could not accomplish the mission so she creates a whole story about another coven getting in the way. She decides that whatever is in this other coven's grimoire was too dangerous to exist --- like sis who asked you to gatekeep another coven's magic?
- could understand the motivations of MC's coven and their impatience with her not being able to complete the mission. What made it worse were the MC's lies and her not being straight up with them.
- dull love interest.

Also, am not sure this even qualified as a romance because it ends on a cliffhanger. There was no clear HEA here.

Wickedly thrilling series starter
Wicked Coven (Cursed Descendants Book 1) by A.S. Green is a fantastically well written thrilling paranormal read. The characters are wonderful and full of conflict. I fell under both Stella’s and Ethan’s spell immediately. Their magnetic draw to one another compelled me to read as the plot thickened and created more tensions, questions and revealed danger coming from surprising directions.
Danger and threats surround them at every turn. The more Ethan and Stella interact, the stronger their pull to one another becomes creating extreme conflict for Stella. Even her own Coven seems to be short sighted. The romance is simmering in the background as each of their interactions creates some passionate, steamy, elemental reaction. Magic is pulling them together, but who they are as people are the real draw. Stella and Ethan are totally appealing to one another, the magic is just the catalyst.
I could tell that this author has put a great deal of effort into this series already. The paranormal elements are intriguing and as one would expect, takes the lead in every interaction with nearly every character. I love the journey that Stella and Ethan are on and that there are so many ways in which their story can go.
This mysterious connection between Ethan and Stella is palpable and leading them down a serious, magical and dangerous path no matter what they might wish. The author has set the tone for the series that make this first book a page turner and leaves the reader with an amazingly compelling cliff hanger! Normally I would be groaning, but I can’t wait to read what happens next! It’s glaringly clear that there is so much in store for Ethan and Stella with some surprising shocks just waiting to be revealed!

~EL'S ARC REVIEW~
First of all, THANK YOU so freaking much for the chance to be an ARC reader, this was my first read by A.S. Green and it certainly will not be my last.
I don't want to risk any teasers or spoilers for this one because I went in blind as I usually do and I can't stop thinking about it. Wicked Coven was a page-turner and didn't hit any lulls. If you're looking for a well-written angsty and dangerous witchy romance it's finally here!

What happens when a witch & a trained witch hunter meet? Come find out.

This book is beautifully written, has a great plot, and a wonderful romance. Touching on spiritual & metaphysical elements in a respectful and bad@$$ way is exactly what we love to see.
I will be getting a hard copy and following all work by this author from now on.

Tropes: enemies-to-lovers, steamy, slow-burn, found family, prophecy, fated mates, forbidden love, cinnamon roll MMC, magical MFC, and more.
Note: This book is the first in the series and it does end on a cliffhanger.

Who's the real wicked witch? - Stella is tasked to take out a descendant of Cotton Mather, the madman who fueled the fervor behind the Salem witch trials. But Ethan is so unlike his ancestor, sweet and gentle, a genuinely good person. But Bishop's curse is upon the coven and Ethan must die. If Stella doesn't handle it, her coven sisters will not hesitate to take action. To complicate matters, there's a coven based in Boston that thinks Ethan has something that will help it unleash the blood magic that pulses in its grimoire, thrashing to be released. And that cannot be allowed to happen. Ever. How's Stella going to save the man she feels pulled to while protecting her heart and her sisters' lives?

I greatly enjoyed this witchy tale. A. S. Green wove a riveting, fast-paced story that I could barely put down. I am looking forward to the next book.

Oh my goodness! This story was outstanding. It has so much action, drama, and suspense. It pulled me in and didn’t let go. This was my first book my A.S. Green and let me tell you it won’t be the last. Stella was an amazing FCM. She has so much heart and curiosity in her. She doesn’t let anything stop her from finding out the truth. Ethan was amazing as well. He has bits of humor and is such a caring guy. Their personalities are amazing and the chemistry between the two of them is felt throughout the story. The story is unique and so incredibly intriguing. It is definitely well written and developed. It had me on the edge of my seat. Then we get to the major cliffhanger and oh my goodness it was something else. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series. It is an absolute must read!

Ok wow, Totally hooked on this story!!
Stella is a witch with somewhat unfocused magic, her spells don't seem to last long but one thing is clear. She needs to kill a politician. A Descendant of one of the men behind the Salem witch trials! Only when she meets him, chemistry off the charts happens and blue sparks everywhere.
Throw in her own coven pushing her to kill him and break the curse and another coven who want something from him, troubles abound.
This story is almost intoxicating. Its really exciting and I cant wait to read what happens next. The chemistry is HOT and they havent even gotten naked yet.

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from booksprout for giving my two cents. We meet Witch and bookstore owner Stella who is tasked by her Coven and Salem coven ancestor to break the spell and kill Ethan Mather who is running for governor. Easy peasy...in and out to get a hair for his poppet and boom...done deal....but is it. Stella sees Ethan at an event and holy moly he's a Greek God...super handsome and finds herself being drawn to him but its alarming when blue tendrils come out of her towards Ethan. Stella has decided she can't do it...there is more to Ethan than just being a Mather...he's a generally a good guy. One eve she meets the head of the Boston Coven that leaves her uneasy. Smtg isn't right and she's going to find out...even if it kills her.

I really enjoyed this witchy romance by AS Green. This was a fun, fast paced fantasy novel about a witch that is sent to rid her coven of a possible threat. What ensues is lots of action, a not so slow slow burn romance and just a really enjoyable story.

There is a little spice in the book, but only included as a dream sequence. The chemistry between Stella and Ethan is smoking, the wide array of characters entertaining, and the plot keeps you guessing with lots of twists and turns. It also ends on a cliffhanger, so now I need to know what happens in book two!

All in all, this was a really fun read.

I dove into this book with low expectations, snagging the ebook on Stuff Your Kindle Day. Despite its modest 60+ reviews, the alluring cover drew me in. I was searching for a quick read and according to my kindle the book was a 5/6 hour read. Initially, the story proved a bit elusive, but soon enough I was captivated.

Centered around a witch coven, descendants of Salem witch trial victims, the plot intrigued me. This was recently a subject I had been studying.

The cliffhanger ending left me eager for part two, which boasts an even better Goodreads score. This time, I'm approaching it with high expectations, ready for a captivating blend of witches, slow burn romance, and the tantalizing enemies-to-lovers trope. Highly recommended for those who savor such enthralling tropes.

I was in the mood for a witchy paranormal romance, and this absolutely did not disappoint. It has all my favorite elements in these types of novels: a clever witchy FMC who runs a magic shop in Salem, hijinks in Boston (where I'm from!), and a high-stakes war between covens with an epic cliffhanger ending. I love the way magic is used in this novel and how it intertwines into the nonmagical world. I especially love that it's rooted in the history of the Salem witches.

I consumed book in just a few days and it left me itching for more. I can't wait to read the next book. This first book felt like setup for what is to be an epic series - one absolutely perfect for witchy urban fantasy lovers. This series needs more attention!

I loved being able to talk to the author prior to purchasing these books. The covers originally caught my eye at a book convention due to the vibrant blue and wonderful details. When speaking with the author, it was great to hear about the inspiration behind the story which sold me on buying the entire series.

Now onto the book itself. Did I find the book to be sunning amazing and will live in my head forever? No, but did I enjoy reading it? Yes. This was a quick enjoyable read for me, and I will definitely continue on with the series. I have already read the first 3 book and since I devoured them, I don’t dare write anymore to not give away any spoilers for the next book.

If you like witches and drama, this would be a good series for you to take a look at.

"Her mother’s voice was suddenly in her ears. Monsters come in all shapes and sizes , Stella. The most dangerous monster is the one who looks the most like you." - Stella Aldren

Facing a curse is hard; even harder when it means all you hold dear is at risk. Stella is confident she can handle the task, even is she isn't the strongest witch in the coven. That is, until she meets Ethan...

“For the record… I like it when you show me your soft spots, Red. I can tell you don’t do it often, so I consider it a gift. And you can trust me with them." - Ethan Mather

Ethan Mather has never had difficulties getting any woman he wanted, until Stella... Stella, of the auburn hair, the storm cloud eyes, and the mysteries that swirl around her like a heady perfume... Stella, who is hiding dangerous secrets...

What a wickedly delicious tale! Spun out of whispered chants and nearly forgotten spells... Come, if you dare! Come and lose yourself in an intriguing tale of ancient curses and fated love...

Well this was a pleasant surprise. This is the first book I have read from this author and as a fan of Salem it was great to be able to follow. With the Salem coven believing they have to kill any Mather that is seeking political power, and the Boston coven wanting a special item that they feel Ethan has things become quite dicey when Stella is sent to kill him but finds out she can't. Can't wait to see what happens.

Gripping read that hurtles the reader into a world steeped in ancestral wrongs, imminent threats, betrayals and more wickedly wonderful elements to keep you guessing! Ethan and Stella come together slower than I'm used to - a good thing though as this feels naturally paced - and not rushed as in so many other books. There's plenty to keep you gasping and doing a double take - especially around the paranormal surprises and a totally awesome cliff hanger ending!!
And now I'm waiting for the next book!.

Wicked Coven by A.S. Green is my first read from this author, the cover is what pulled me in at first and then the description. I adored this book, the comedic relief, the true witchy vibes with instant chemistry with the MC’s. I loved this and found myself relating to the FMC. I wasn’t prepared for the cliffhanger, I knew there would be as this is the first book but it shook me because I didn’t want this book to end and can’t wait to see where the series goes from here. I definite book you should add to your TBR!
