When her friend Sandy asks for help, Anne Wilson leaves her small, lonely life in Miami for the picturesque island of Saint Martin. But as soon as she arrives, Sandy is murdered, and her death exposes lies: an alias, a secret past, stolen money. Suspected of murder and trapped on the island, Anne is shocked when a cryptic message arrives:

Find the money. Take it and run.

She follows Sandy’s trail of obscure clues, desperate for proof of her innocence and must decide if she can trust the two men who offer help-the dark, mysterious Brit or the American with a wide grin and a pickup truck. When memories resurface-dark truths she’d rather leave buried and forgotten, her past becomes intertwined with her present.

Her only way forward is to face her own secrets.

Assumed - is it a scavenger hunt, a murder mystery, a game??? Imagine clues and codes buried within your memories and layered as such that you need to unlock them to survive. Like: where does this Lucien go? He is always disappearing. Then halfway through the mystery deepens. Near the end I realized my suspicions of him were off…..way off!
The author does an excellent job of making the reader “assume” all sorts of things. Although it didn’t take me long to unscramble Seena’s name, puzzling but easy which was always Sandy’s game. You never know who’s using your name, or identity.
This is probably 3.5 stars, but the bombshell of Sandy’s role in Anna’s life pushes it closer to 4 stars.
Thank you MHR Geer for sending me a copy of your book!

Assumed is action packed and fast paced, you won’t be able to put it down! This book was such a surprise, and a good surprise! It is nothing like I have read before, and that alone made it enjoyable. The direction that this book was such a surprise! There are so many twists and turns, that I couldn’t figure out what was going on! I did find it a little alarming that Anne was so trusting of these men that she just met – really, I wanted to yell at her “Don’t you read the news” or “Don’t you listen to true crime podcasts!” Other than that, I enjoyed Anne as a character. She was believable and true to herself. This book is full of adventure, mystery, and romance – perfect for any reader. So get on, and get to reading!

This book completely reignited my love of the suspense/thriller genre. The writing is impeccable. The author really makes the reader feel every suspenseful moment. I actually could almost smell the ocean and hear the waves!
The best part of this book though is the main character, Anne. She is so authentic and 100% relatable. I don’t want to give any of the story away but I loved that she thought and felt and reacted in such real ways. She was perfectly imperfect and was so strong and capable all while doubting herself like we all do! It was really nice to watch her self reliance and quick thinking in stressful situations. I could go in and on but you should just read it!
Finally, the twist! I should have seen it coming but I totally didn’t and that really deserves a bonus star because that can be so hard to do. Only talented authors can give readers so much that in hindsight they think “I should have known” while still surprising them in the end.
I highly recommend this to fans of the suspense genre but also to anyone who enjoys reading a well written book with a strong and relatable main character. I will be telling everyone I know about this book! I hope the author writes another 🤞

This book was so good! I will say I was super annoyed with the MC at the start, like girl, do you not listen to true crime podcasts? Stop going off with random guys 😂 but, by the end I was rooting for her. This read had thrills, mystery a little spice and a twist I didn’t see coming at the end.

Anne Wilson, a resident of Miami, Florida, receives a sudden strange call from her best friend Sandy. Her friend has visited the island of St.Martin; a lush and tropical paradise as opposed to the bustling city of Miami. The call is very short and cryptic; “Anne, I’m in trouble. Can you come to St.Martin tomorrow? ” The call is strange, but Sandy is the only friend she has, she thinks. And isn’t that what friends are for? She agrees to fly in the next day.

Hurriedly, she packs a few bags and purchase a ticket to this island country. Upon arrival, she receives another cryptic text from Sandy informing her to go to an unexpected residence. The place is out of the way and untidy. After she arrives, Sandy sends Anne a series of strange messages, but no actual telephone calls, and not long after, she receives a visit from the police who interrogate and probe her about her friend. She soon gets some shocking news; her friend has been found dead, and her friend Sandy isn’t really called Sandy, but Gilda Jorgensen! Who is Gilda? Why did she use a fake name? How was she murdered, and more importantly, why does law enforcement believes she somehow is involved? Who are the actual perpetrators? Is she being set up? A series of cryptic messages come in, confusing both the police and Anne. What is happening?

“Assumed,” written by author MGR Geer, is appropriately named—don’t ever assume! This isn’t just a well-written mystery, but a good book to teach others that sometimes we really shouldn’t take many things at face value. The locale and exotic setting enhance the book as well; a charming and romantic toss in that fits the narrative.

Many of the ancillary characters play their roles perfectly, and the ending is too good and unexpected to give you a clue! Trust me, you’ll want to be shocked. It’s also a classic “who dun it” but with a very different twist. When you expect it to twist, it turns. Multiple sequences like this make you want to keep reading into the night. I could even see this type of book being a potential film/movie. Well done. Five stars easily.

We all have that friend that we would do anything for, but really how far does "anything" really mean you will go? Ann's good friend Sandy has asked her for help but she needs to come to the island of Saint Martin and as soon as Ann arrives things seem a little off. It all seemed perfect timing for a bit of a getaway anyways. Work was questioning her and her work and what better way for a breather than to head to a warm tropical island for a few days to help her friend out? Getting cryptic text messages and paper notes left Ann doesn't think too much of it until the police start questioning her about Sandy's death and what exactly she is doing there. Speaking from beyond the grave, Sandy has left clues and they are clues that only Ann will know. In a race against time, Ann is on the hunt to find out the truth about her friend, these clues she left behind and to untangle what all happened and how she got to be here. Not sure who she can trust, Ann start questioning those who have quickly befriended her, and those she worked with. Was she trying to be framed for all that was going on and she is just the scapegoat or is this bigger than her and Sandy altogether? This was a good mystery read. I really enjoyed the storyline the author tangled together and what was all revealed in the end. Thank you to Author Marketing Experts for the invite and to the author for the free novel!

This was a great read and I enjoyed trying to figure out who was doing what. It had so many twists that kept me rethinking who was playing who and the truth. From the beginning of the story I was already hooked by the author's style of writing and I didn't loose the urge to keep reading further. I thought it was crazy that Anne would just be so trusting of these men and unfortunately realized a bit too late that some weren't whom she thought. Luke was such a great guy for sticking around with everything that was happening and happened to him as well. I kept hoping she would get with him throughout the book and not keep gravitating towards Lucien. I loved the game Sandy made for Anne to follow and how she incorporated things only Anne would know. Kudos to Anne for sticking it out and for figuring things out, even if one important detail wasn't thought of till the end. I'm glad the story ended the way it did and was happy for the characters. I definitely would read more from this author and would certainly be up for more added to Anne's story in case she decided to get into more trouble in Saint Martin.

Assumed is a fast-paced thriller with more twists and turns than you'll ever expect. With imagery that makes you feel like you're on the island of Saint Martin yourself and character development that practically convinces you they're works of non-fiction, this novel will have you engaged from front to back.

My review is actually a 3.5/5 star.

First I want to start off by saying I’ve never read anything by this author and even though this book gave me quite the headache I’m glad I was able to give it a shot. So, let’s get on with the review shall we?

Anne Wilson is a relatively independent woman she seems to stick to herself. Work, sleep, eat, swim repeat. When she gets a message from her best friend Sandy that she needs help and to come to Saint Martin immediately Anne doesn’t even think twice but she has work and can’t leave.

But, when her boss Mr. Sampson calls her in his office at the last minute to question some wire transfers, it makes Anne think she’s being accused of stealing 3 million dollars. This infuriates her and she decides to take vacation and go help her friend.

So, after Anne gets to Saint Martin she immediately learns that things aren’t going to go as planned. Everything starts going downhill, quite literally. She quickly discovers that Sandy won’t be picking her up and unless she takes a bike to the market she won’t get food either.

After the story bounces all over the place, literally, Anne discovers that her friend has been killed and that she’s a prime suspect and can’t leave the island.

Anne also develops the hots for two strange men on the island and ends up bouncing back and forth between the two of them. The story has a lot of potential and most of the book was quite interesting to read but it was also chaotic. It seems to me as though the author was having trouble figuring out where to place certain plot events and ended up piling alot on top of each other. It was however a relatively quick read and the characters are very easy to like. I honestly didn’t like Anne from the start but she does have a sad story and the way she acted around the two men I mentioned just angered me more. I also feel like some of the romance that happened throughout the story was just a place holder.

All in all I give it a rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars. As I mentioned is has potential, the characters are loveable and I imagine that Saint Martin is quite a beautiful place to live but, it was just all over the place. I hope the next book I read will be more contained chaos.

Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately this concept never quite got off the ground for me.
There were too many characters, too many disjointed info-dumps, and too many dumb decisions. I could never understand the main character's motivation, and Luke was about the only person I was rooting for since he seemed to be the only person with common sense.
I don't tend to like plots that are predicated on problems that could easily be solved by simply talking to someone.

2 stars because I think the writing has potential. It just desperately needed to be edited down.

Assumed was a fun fast paced thriller/murder mystery set on Saint Martin. As with most books in this genre, there are twists and reveals you wont expect. At just under 300 pages it can easily be red in a few sittings and will keep you engaged through the whole book. Thank you to the author, MHR Greer and AME for inviting me to participate in his review tour. I look forward to reading more by this author. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

# These past weeks, I assumed you are getting regular updates about me and the letters I give you word by word instead of getting them summarized by another voice. Was I correct to assume that? That includes the letters I wrote to other people.

The plot of the story was really good I just wasn't a fan of the way it was written. Sometimes it was very predictable bc the main character was such a clumsy person

Thrillers are always a fun read for me because I never know what to expect. You can think a story is going in one direction, but it can go in a totally different one. This one did not disappoint when it comes to that.

With this one, I felt like the saying, “expect the unexpected” is perfect for this book. The way that the author writes Anne and all of the ways she lives her life or endures certain things made her feel more “real”. It wasn’t just a glossy picture for us to look at. Instead, you got a real and relatable character who could be any of us. I love the fact that she isn’t just going through the motions. All of the ups and downs and twists had me watching right along with her. Overall, I loved the excitement of the story. Even if I did have a few what the heck moments. Well written and fantastic!
