The folks of Promise, Texas, are kind hearted matchmakers, and they've set their sights on Ellie Sheridan and her childhood friend Glen Patterson. Ellie and Glen have always been best friends, but the sparks fly between them as the townsfolk push them together and force them to reexamine their feelings.

All of the problems of the first book and none of the charm. Part of the problem is that Glen couldn't be dumber if he had a brainectomy. Which wouldn't be so bad except that the author expects the reader to take his stupidity seriously--i.e. we're supposed to believe that Glen could know and be friends with Ellie for years and still believe she'd fall for the prat Richard. Seriously?
Bitter Springs is downplayed in this one, with only a single visit to the town and it's still only mildly spooky. But Richard plays an even bigger role than he did in the first and he's as grating as he ever was. I fear that he's going to be the villain through the entire series of six books and if that's the case, I quit right now. He wouldn't be more transparent if Macomber gave him a mustache to twirl. I'm a little encouraged that it appears that his house of cards is starting to fall, but by the end, it still hasn't fallen yet. Unfortunately, that's only because Macomber made everybody else in town blithering idiots unable to maintain their skepticism beyond "the check is in the mail". And his plan at the end is to hide out in Bitter Springs? Seriously? The self-acknowledged city boy plans on roughing it in a barren wasteland and eat what? Do what all day? Gah.
Anyway, Glen is unsympathetic and Ellie (for what little we see of her) is kind of just there and that makes all the difference in making this book almost hard to read. I finished it hoping it'd improve but it never did. At this point, I'm not sure if I'm willing to risk the next. Someone please tell me that Richard is gone. Please?
3,5 Sterne
As part of my reading challenge this year, I included Debbie Macomber’s Heart of Texas series. Like all her books, this series is made up of fun stories, filled with interesting characters and unexpected turns of events.
Two books into the series, and I can’t wait to keep reading. However, I already know the end will come all too soon.
Losing her father then watching her mother pack up and sell the home she grew up in and then moving left Ellie Frasier feeling alone. Having a close friend like Glen Patterson new by helped some, running her fathers feed store helped some, but the sorrow was still there. Now that Ellie had gotten an inheritance, Richard Weston saw opportunity to get some money, move up in his life and drive his brother Grady’s best friend Glen crazy. After being friends for so long, Glen was worried that one kiss would ruin everything they had. Finding that kiss all he could think about and then realizing that she was also seeing Richard was about to make him - crazy.
Book 2 ….. I have the whole series now, the first book set up the entire town with characters and their paths. This one just continued in the same way. Got to see more of Savannah, and get to know a few of the others better. The story of Bitter End continues and there is amore set ups made. Another nice and gentle romance with a bit of adventure to add a little suspense. Next up is “Caroline’s Child“, finally going to get to know who the father is.
Texas Two-Step would be considered a clean, sweet romance by today’s expectations. And I enjoyed this re-read of Ellie and Glen’s falling in love as much as I did the first time I read it. In fact, the 1998 Harlequin paperback is over on my physical bookshelf even now, along with the rest of this series. Yes, I do hold on to the good ones, and I’ll always do a few re-reads of the ones that I keep. Debbie Macomber has gone on to become a best selling author with a worldwide following… and while I do love her books to this day, I still enjoy going back to her beginnings now and then. This title is part of my Flashback Series feature.
I love stepping back in time and visiting with old friends, and Texas Two-Step was no exception. Ellie’s world has turned upside down recently, and the oddness of her life is going to go a bit further before it all comes to a happy ending. After her father’s recent death her mother decided to up and sell Ellie’s childhood home and leave… just move away. Ellie is left still in mourning, still confused by her mother’s actions and operating the feed store on her own. Well, the fact is that no one is really alone in Promise, Texas – even if they want to be. It won’t take long before the town matchmakers decide that Ellie and Glen’s long time friendships should move on up to the next level… or for one nasty piece of work, Richard, to step in with his up to no good plans.
Texas Two-Step moves the general, overall feel of this series along. We’ll get to visit with Savannah again, catch up with some other people in town as well as revisit Bitter Springs briefly. Sometimes best friends turn out to be so much more – and that is exactly what happens with Ellie and Glen. Plus some shenanigans from Richard. Love wins in the end, and we get ready for the next story in this series. I had fun with this one, it was enjoyable to go back to an earlier Debbie Macomber series. If you love her work today, then you’d enjoy going back to some of her earlier series as well.
Honestly, the only reason I read this was because someone gave me a copy and wanted to know what I thought. Had it not been for that, this book would have never been on my radar.
That being said, I’ll start with what I liked about this book: The story was more entertaining that the first novel in this series, and I use the word entertaining loosely.
Here’s what didn’t work for me: This book is a lot of tell and not a lot of show. Two characters are supposed to be together because everyone in the town thought so, not because the reader is shown the progression said relationship. Also, the men in this novel are infuriating. Couldn’t at least one of them have had some sort of emotional intelligence???
I won’t be continuing on with this series, but maybe I’ll pick up one of Macomber’s more recent works somewhere down the road.
Such sweet fun. The men of Promise, it seems, are a clumsy lot who struggle to woo the ladies. It's enjoyable to see them stomp about, pulling out their hair and wondering why their extremely blunt methods are not yielding romantic results. That line about cancelling the farrier was hilarious.
Richard continues to be a devious, low-down, no-good schemer who can get away with murder. Savannah's sad-eyed acquiescence to his bullshit is still utterly infuriating, however it was satisfying to see Elsie call him out and not fall for his obvious lies. Although she did still humour him, and pander to some of his shit, which did infuriate me. I swear Debbie Macomber better be working towards some serious just-desserts for this asshole because he really gets on my nerves.
I enjoyed this book 2 in the "heart of Texas" series. Again, I bought this at the local Library Book Sale. I've voluntarily chose to review this and I've given it a 5*. This author touches my heart and I enjoy each one of her stories. Book 2 continues on exploring the characters more and it's connection with the Ghost town. We see more from the bad guy and how things evolve between him and the other characters.
Glenn Patterson and Ellie Frasier have been best friends forever. Then one night Glenn kisses Ellie and everything so different. Richard Weston is busy spending money he doesn't have trying to keep his brother and sister don't find out. He's looking to play a con to cheat more people. Very good read I loved it.
I read this ages ago and forgot to post a review, so this is going to be generic at best. Basically, I read the first books in Macomber's series and then I get hooked, and then promptly binge read all the remaining books. That's what happened here. I remember Glen being an idiot, and Richard being a jerk, but the moral of the story is I couldn't stop reading this series once I started.
This is a wonderful series love Debbie Macomber and her way of working through a small town and making people happy. Love that there is usually a "bad" person and who she utilizes that individual to make it exciting and real.
This is a light beach read with sweet characters. It just fell a little flat for me both in the romance and the plot. If you are looking for some light fluff with a little romance, you might enjoy this more than I did.
I found this book in the trunk of a junk car at my dads garage, I hid it and read it in secret when I was 12-13 years old haha back then it was the best thing ever cause I wasn’t aloud to read adult romance novels.
Ellie and Glen have been friends forever. Will it ever be anything more. Their story will have you ready to strangle them both. And it seems some of the townspeople are not helping their relationship at all. Loved book two in this series. The folks in the town of Promise have stolen my heart.
Having characters that don’t know their own feelings is not realistic. Richard is a cliche villain. And this book tries really hard to create problems and misunderstandings because it can’t find a decent plot line other than everyone wants to kiss somebody.
What a weird ending. Almost like the author just stopped and will pick it up in another book. I normally enjoy Debbie Macomber but I felt we were left holding the bag with this one.
Book 2 in series. Equally as well written and defined as book 1. Cowboys, pretty girls, bad and good guys with mysteries and romance I to the mix. Light and easy read. Good clean book.
I must say that I do enjoy Debbie Macomber's romances. I find the stories always make me smile, and there's always something extra in the pages. This was no exception, I really enjoyed this story.
