Claire Sullivan has a soft spot for helping those in need. So when her widowed grandmother becomes blind, Claire is determined to travel to the Montana Territory to care for her. But she never imagined the country would be so wild compared to her North Carolina home. Even the local doctor doesn't seem to have a kind bone in his body.
Doctor Bryan Donaghue is sick of working so hard for people who don't want his help. He came to this wild Montana mining town to make a difference, but all he's found is pig-headed resistance. Even the sassy granddaughter of the blind widow won't heed his instructions.
But when disaster strikes their rough mining city, Claire's desire to help lands her in the midst of the fire. Can Bryan find a way to save these people -- especially the woman he's come to love?

Just finished this book last night. The third in the series and this one was just as good as the first was. I'm a new reader to Misty M. Beller and she impressed me with the details of living in a mining town and the hardships that the people endured on a daily basis. Some of the characters are quirky and will bring a smile to your face, others make you wonder if there will be another book on them. If you like Christian Historical Romance then I highly recommend this book.
No one asked me to leave this review & I bought this book. All opinions are my own.
I’m completely in love with Misty M. Beller’s books. This is the second series I’ve read. Every book is better than the one before. She depicts life in the mountain west so wonderfully. But the history is the second best reason to read these. The characters are so true to life I feel like I know them. Even the secondary characters are fascinating, like Ol Mose and Lily and Dahlia. Several scenes between Bryan and Dahlia brought tears to my eyes. I just love this town. I’ve been to Butte. The people there really haven’t changed that much since 1870. Still hard working, independent, Jesus loving people. It’s a hard life that far north. I’m going through these books like a bag of Doritos. With Pepsi. So good!
I loved this book. I enjoyed it thoroughly! I loved all the characters. I loved the storyline and it ended well. I liked that even though you could read it as a stand alone book. It is still a continuation of the previous book in the series. So that if you did read the previous book in the series, which I did. Then it added more depth to this book. I also enjoyed how the author wove scripture into the storyline making the book even more moving and uplifting. I like stories that demonstrate how faith, scripture, and prayer can affect people's every day lives. I also like that a book can have romance and love in it and still be clean. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I am enjoying this series and the details of Gods touch in the lives of these characters. The setting my show a simpler time but God is always true to his people, even today. In this story, Claire shows her unwavering faith in God. This pulls others to see her value and how beautiful her spirit truly is on the inside. One such individual, Doc Bryan, finds himself thinking of Claire long after their encounters. Finding love doesn’t have to be difficult. Boy meets girl, gets to know girl, falls for girl, marries girl. This is how life should be, simple easy love. Can’t wait to dive into Marcus and Lilly’s story!
I'm so glad Doc Bryan got his own story. Thoroughly enjoyed the love story between Claire and Bryan Donaghue. Great storytelling, captivating setting, and realistic characters. If you're a fan of stories set in the early days of Montana, this series is for you.
Audiobook version. Ugh, Leonor Woodworth's voice sounds like Claire is 15. During a disaster, when Claire is trying to alert people, you'd think she would be loud, forceful, driven by panic and the need to be heard. Nope. I've heard stage whispers that are almost louder than Woodworth's Claire. As far as the book goes, meh. I didn't like the fact that Claire is a Mary Sue extraordinaire. She is patient, kind, meek, dutiful, forbearing, forgiving, and pretty much a saint. Is there any domestic chore she cannot do? We learn that when she was younger and still living at home, she would finish her work and then go help other people with their work. Such a paragon.
And, ultimately we find out that poor Claire has carried a weight around for years, the weight of believing that -- at five years old -- because she didn't make an adult decision, she was thus partly responsible for a terrible event that happened then.
Personally, I don't think a Mary Sue character is an interesting or relatable character. I'd have found the book, and Claire, more interesting if Claire had actually had a fault that needed to be overcome. Pride, for example. But no, her only sin is that as a little kid she was unable to make an adult decision about something. Not that we know if making that decision would have changed the outcome, because it might not have. But it's important to understand that our poor saintly, sinless Claire unfairly carried a burden that she need not have carried.
Misty M Beller books are like hot cocoa. As an adult, sometimes (or maybe just rarely) I really get in the mood for a mug of Swiss Miss- something warm and comforting, safe and easy. This book…. well, it’s hot cocoa. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a Christian love story set in the mountains in the Old Times. And I’m not sure why but sometimes I just have to pause the adult fantasy series, with its sexiness and elves and world building, for an easy Misty M Beller book that’s 6 hours long and has characters named Sally and Mark. It’s a palate cleanser and as far as palate cleansers go, this one is good. Not my favorite from her but certainly a good one. You can find tons of her books for free on the Hoopla app!
Claire Sullivan's grandmother becomes blind, so she travels to the Montana Territory to care for her. Doctor Bryan Donaghue works hard for the people. Then the sassy granddaughter of the blind widow won't heed his instructions. But when disaster strikes their rough mining city, Bryan's drive to help may have taken him too far.
I loved this story. God lives in the character's lives. That can be seen in their desire to help others, specifically the miners. Opposites create sparks. Doctor Bryan working with Claire is exactly that. Clean romance at its best.
Great story! Montana Territory, town of Butte, where mining was the major resource and men died in those mines from the black dust. Drs Bryan and Alex Donaghue did their best to help the residents. Alex met the gal of his dreams and now lives happily in town; Bryan is lonely as he now lives alone in a room off the clinic; and, Claire came from North Carolina to care for her widowed blind grandmother. I love that Pastor Marcus has come to town. It all fits within the adventures of this book. Thanks to the author for using KU on Amazon so I can read this series.
This is the third book in this series and like the two previous books it was excellent. I love the way the character development has grown throughout all of this series. If you're a fan of Leah Banicki's books I think you'll love this series. You end up getting pulled into each story and feel like you personally know the people. It has romance, Christian faith and values which is important to me. I think you're really going to enjoy not only This book, but the entire series. Happy reading!😁
Nice and steady. A book of strength and a courage to change from fears.
A very tender heart. Able to go on even with so much guilt that should not be there. Family values are in abundance with a show of support to those they love. Claire's strength and endurance are amazing. She has a way of making you feel anything is possible. A sweet romance with a bit of courage for her to stand up against the bullies. Enjoyed reading this. Can't wait to start the next one.
So far this is an incredible series! This is book 3 but I strongly recommend you read this series in order because each book thus far continues the story line! I absolutely loved this story! A niece of one of the feisty character comes to Town and is preciously changed! You will love the characters and how they interact with each other! Easy to read but I must caution you! You won’t be able to put it down! Enjoy!!! HAPPY READING 😊
I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Claire Sullivan comes to Montana to help her bind grandmother and finds she is pretty independent and has a gentleman caller. She finds Dr. Brian Donahue to be gruff and dirty. As she sees the real man, she starts to like him and help him. She is afraid of fire since she saw a young friend killed by fire, but when the town catches on fire she in instrumental in helping save the doctor.
Misty Beller is becoming a new favorite author of mine. This is the third book in the Mountain Dreams series and is excellent, too. The series has become a personal favorite. I love her writing style that immerses you in the story, and all the characters start to feel like friends. Simple, beautiful clean romance. Highly recommend this book as a standalone, but better yet in the series. . Onto # 4!
I absolutely adored this book! One of my favorites of Misty Beller's books. That is saying a lot because I love all her books. It really is a beautiful romance of Claire and Bryan and that God really does love us just as we are. I can't wait to start the next book in the series!
I found this third book of this series to be best one yet. Each story seems to have more depth to it. I liked the characters and found it was easy to relate with them. It was also nice to revisit characters from the previous stories. This is a clean read and I would recommend it.
We finally find out what pushes Bryan to work so hard. A new woman in town catches his eye and a sweet infatuation blooms. Grams is set to marry Ole Mose. The town is growing when the new preacher and the new dentist come to town. So many new exciting things.
Glory in infirmities Claire must get over false guilt and Bryan must over come his need of trying to prove his worth. They must journey to be free from these strongholds Satan has chained them with. Being free from them they can focus on Gods Devine plan for their lives. We could all take this journey with Bryan and Claire.
This novel presented a story of real people whose faith was an essential part of their existence. Challenges that were true to life set a scene where well developed characters lived their lives. An enjoyable evenings read that leaves this reader ready to continue the story in the next of the series.
These books are wonderful, can't stop reading. Each one brings in new characters, some related to those already in the stories and some new. Each one is well worth the reading time and brings some fun and adventure. I have been purchasing each one alone, beginning with #4 I just went ahead and bought the rest of the series.
3.5-4 stars, this is a nice story in the continuing Mountain Series of Claire, who travels to Butte to help her blind grandmother, Mrs Malmgren.
There she works at a restaurant to help earn money to pay down her grandmothers debt at the local mercantile, and she meets Dr Bryan Donaghue, who changes her life.
I enjoyed this sweet historical romance. Claire is a sweet character. She is so giving and kind to the people of the town. Bryan works hard as a doctor for the town. He seems a bit grumpy at first, but soon the chemistry between Clair and Bryan is known. This is part of a series, but I did not read any of the other stories and was not lost at all.
I’m so glad I decided to take the time to read/re-read this older series by Misty M. Beller. It just reinforces the reasons I love her books. Strong characters, including the female ones, humor, wonderful story lines and always a few twists. The story is good by itself, but better when read with the rest of the series.
The book had several subplots. The heroine had some fears. The hero was really hard to get along with. Then they had a terrible fire and things started happening. All they needed was faith.
The Lady and The Mountain Fire by Misty M. Beller, #3...I remember part of this book, but not all and I’m glad that I found it in the list.More Stars, 6 stars! Butte was had a fire burning in the town. I’m not sure if Marcus was there or not. I didn’t write it down.
Sometimes fear is not rooted in the unknown but rooted in our inability to let go of the past. You can move across the country to start over but your new beginning won’t start until you truly let go of what’s holding you back.
This is a very sweet love story between Bryan and Clair. It is written by Misty Beller and is filled with excitement and adventure. You will enjoy discovering how Bryan and Claire find their happily ever after.
