My writing was greatly influenced by Ruth, and particularly this book. Her use of taste, touch, sight, sound, and smell is genius and makes the poems so savory and clever.
I was introduced to @ruthformanpoet work in 2020 by a fellow writer friend, Loana. This is her second collection of poems I have devoured and that has fed my writer and reader spirit. Pick up her books. P.S. The intro is written by @cherriemoraga ❤❤❤❤ An extra treat. 🤓📚
I don't often read books of poetry. I'm glad I read this one. I'm sure I didn't understand a lot of what the African-American women poets were saying because my experience has been much different than theirs, but I did understand enough to realize that this poetry speaks to the American experience. Some is probably unique to the experience of black women, but much speaks much more broadly. Hopefully I learned something from them of their experience.
I heard Ruth Forman read when I was at college. I was immediately hooked -- she's got such style and delivery, and it comes through even straight off the page. These are fun to read out loud. Beautiful and very real.
I met this author shortly after graduating college and was lured in by the creative, sassy, smart poetry she read. I've passed this book along to various friends, and everyone always has the same response: these are great poems. I highly encourage checking her out...
