I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.
My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.
Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!
I love the world building in this story; The fifth gate is different from the four books which preceded it. Penelope’s fight is not just with Ares but with her own feelings.
This book was a lot shorter than previous books and there were fewer battles and fight scenes. It did feel like there could have been more to it than there was; it was a bit of a race to the finish line.
We’ve seen a lot of sexual tension between Penelope and Adonis throughout the series but in this book Adonis is injured and unable to help Penelope in the final battle at the fifth gate. Just as well really, because the attraction and tension between her and Ares is high and it is fulfilled before the story ends. The options went from ⧣TeamAdonis or ⧣TeamAres to ⧣WhyChoose and I loved it.
Sadly, this is the final book but it feels like there is so much more that could be written in this series. I wasn’t ready for it to end.
Reading order
Wrath of the Gods (Gates of the Underworld, Book 1) Relics of Ruin (Gates of the Underworld, Book 2) Daughter of Aphrodite (Gates of the Underworld, Book 3) God of War (Gates of the Underworld, Book 4) The Fifth Gate (Gates of the Underworld, Book 5)
Pen has made it to the fifth gate and is ready to take on Ares but like most things in Pen's life things don't go as planned. Ares has a grudge to settle and he will do whatever it takes to take out his revenge on Aphrodite even if it is using her daughter . The only help she has well is Hades and he is running his own game. Now she has to find her sister and defeat Ares get back to find Adonis and get out of hell in two days. Pen is at the end of the line, she has been beaten, almost killed a numerous amount of times. She is ready to take on Ares. She has grown stronger in her power but she still doesn't feel like she can do it. She is so much stronger then she thinks is. Ares well he is hurt in so many ways and wants to take it out on anyone and well everyone. But like with all great villains there is a hint of hurt that can heal with the right person. He is so misunderstood and he does become a help to Pen, We also meet again Hades and the rest of the Olympians. These characters have all grown through out the series and become complex This is the last book in the series and the authors have outdone themselves in the way that they have drawn us into a world full of Greek Gods and Goddess and turn it into an adventure. You will love and hate the characters and curse the authors for what they put the characters through. They also mix romance into the story line and Ares, Adonis and Hades will have you swooning. I truly enjoyed this book and this series . If you want a good series check it out .
The Fifth Gate is the fifth, and final, book in the Gates of the Underworld series. Pen is coming to the climactic end of her journey through Hell. She’s finally going to come face-to-face with Ares, God of War, gatekeeper, and murderer of her sister. Pen is alone but confident, however, Ares isn’t a God to be trifled with nor is he going to be easy to overcome.
The Fifth Gate is a breath of fresh air in the world of Greek mythology. The world building by HP Mallory and JR Rain is continues to be vibrant and full of detail and the characters are multi-faceted and complex. The story is engaging and full of action and adventure. I was immersed in the story of Penelope, Adonis, Ares, Hades, and the Greek Gods and Goddesses woven throughout the tale. I’m sad to see the series end but the author gave the book a good send-off, on that will resonate with me for a while.
I read the whole series and I just have to say, take the sex out and it would be awesome. I mean the actual acts, because it just kills a good story with bad timing - like one part after they land on a beach. Ok I know who Aphrodite is, I know what she and her daughter have in common, but badly timed sexcapades "just because" threw the book off a little. I admit I skipped past when they started making certain eye contact or even a hint at screwing against a wall. The end? I would have rather seen them go off to something else than what was hinted at. After all, neither were The God of the Underworld himself, who you would have expected all the sexual innuendos from. Aside from that, the story line was pretty good and each battle scene was good, and not repetitive. Would still recommend.
It is now time for Penelope to enter Ares area…the last gate to retrieve her sister. She is low on time and patience. Adonis is left behind, otherwise this gate could kill him. Will she be able to handle the God of War all by herself? Will he kill her for vengeance? Or, will she be able to help him gain his freedom? In an uncanny turn-a-bout, the two just might be able to help one another…but at what cost? What will Aphrodite do if they succeed? Will they be able to get back in time to leave the Underworld? Will Hades allow this to transpire…and if so, at what cost? Let us hope Pen can outwit Ares, retrieve her sister, retrieve Adonis, and make it back in time to face any consequences those on Olympus may impose~
Pretty good right up until the last two pages. Read on KU.
This series was really drawn out. The middle 3 books were so similar. I skimmed them to get through all the fight scenes and some of the descriptions. This one was different but it was too easy. I liked the direction they went with Ares.
I would have liked a much better epilogue. The ending was very weak.
This book seemed to have more grammatical errors but it may be that I just skimmed through the ones in the other books.
The series is described as medium burn. I fins that to be an odd description. And the steamy scenes weren't steamy.
This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was steamy, action-packed and I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed this book and will definitely read more books by these authors.
*sigh* My complaint that the series reads like a novel chopped up into multiple pieces continues to the end; this was incredibly short and shoehorned a romance with the villian in.
"Why choose" (calling it that or reverse harem, instead of polyamory is honestly so squicky) isn't my personal jam and I like it even less when it comes out of left field in under 50 pages with a person who previously slept with the heroines mother. Just... no. Between that and the obvious cash grab that was chopping up the books, wouldn't recommend.
Greek Mythology fans have to read this series! Penelope has lazer focus, its all about saving her sisters soul.. The God of War, Ares isn't going to make things easy for her. This has been a great series filled with tons of steam and action!
