This was my 2nd book by Shiloh Walker and I loved it!

Brian is a wonderful hero, always caring and supportive, and he falls hard and fast for Jaynie. Well, not really "fast" if you consider the fact that they've known each other forever, but once they hook up after she's finally dumped her less-than-worthy fiancé, Brian is a goner. His insecurity about Jaynie's feelings only makes him more adorable and it was a good reprieve from the over-confident heroes that inhabit Romancelandia.

Jaynie takes longer to fall for Brian and she never says the famous 3 little words - "I love you" - to him, not even at the end of the book. This would normally bother me but, in this case, I thought it was very fitting to the story. She's spent 10 rather happy, though oblivious, years of her life with a guy that ends up being a jerk and a cheater, so it's only natural to see her being a bit wary about her new feelings for Brian - especially if you consider that, by the end of the book, they've been together for less than a month. BUT regardless of Jaynie's unspoken words, I have no doubt in my mind that she loves Brian and that they'll live HEA. :)

I just finished reading 10 Shiloh Walker books. They were all listed as Erotica and they were all compromised of recycled content.

These are not actually spoilers, but I'm hiding them because it's erotica and I don't want anyone's poor virgin eyes to be spoiled.

Thank you, Shiloh Walker, for your literary regurgitation. Your steamy dirty talk drew me in, but your repetition has almost guaranteed I'll never read another book of yours again.

5 stars – Contemporary Romance/Erotica

I read this smokin’ hot story in Walker’s Whispered Secrets contemporary erotic romance anthology.

One of the Guys

Jaynie knew her seemingly perfect fiancé had a hankering to engage in some ménage fantasies, but when she catches him acting them out, she’s devastated. As if that weren’t bad enough, he lashes out with hurtful accusations, questioning her femininity and sexuality in excuse for his two-timing, a**hole behavior. With her confidence shattered and her pride bruised, she needs a night of wild, uninhibited sex to prove to herself that she’s not the cold, frigid, tomboy like her ex assumed. Luckily, her best friend’s sexy older brother Brian, who also happens to be the partner in her veterinarian practice, is more than willing to give her the hot night of passion she craves. But what happens when he can’t go back to being just friends and business partners and demands more from her than their one night together? Can she learn to trust again and open her heart? Whew, turn down the A/C before reading this one ‘cause it’s a scorcher! Brian’s sultry dirty-talking, dominating bedroom demeanor combined with his sweet, romantic nature had me melting to the floor in a puddle! 5 stars!

Jaynie is in for the surprise of a lifetime when she walks in on her fiancé with two other people in his bed. Struck with grief she escapes to her best friend’s house where her friend and co-worker, Brian lives. Starting a new relationship is the last thing on Jaynie’s mind but with nothing but self-doubt about her sensuality, she turns to Brian to put all her fears to rest.

One night was all it was supposed to be. But months later, Brian can’t get her out of his head. He never saw her as anything more than one of the guys, but now that he’s held her close he wants nothing more than to stake his claim.

I really enjoyed this friends to lover’s romance. Brian was swoon-worthy and I loved that although Jaynie had her insecurities over her worth, she still didn’t fight too much to give into her attraction to Brian. I just really wished it wasn’t such a fast pace romance. I think there was a lot going on in general with the story that I felt like the buildup for these two was lost in the story. Overall I still really liked the story, but the high-drama of the ex-sort of left me feeling like I missed out on watching these fall in love.

Revenge is sometimes best served by showing what an ex is missing out on. In One of the Guys, Jaynie is the proverbial girlfriend walking in to see her fiancé banging the slutty neighbor next door. Rather than being ashamed, her loser fiancé wants her to join in. Not a fan of ménage, Jaynie stomps out and runs to her best friend. Lucky for her, her best friend's brother who is also her partner at the veterinary clinic is there to help her.

This is a predictable contemporary romance with a happily ever after. The plot is not so much about Jaynie going after her cheating fiancé. It is a sexual journey and self-discovery for Jaynie. She has been cruising through life just focusing on her animal practice. Better with animals anyway, Jaynie let herself go. I can't really blame her fiancé for not being attracted to her blah appearance and lack of interest. It is obvious they are not compatible because they have different sexually preferences and they have little in common. Jaynie is definitely better off without him.

The cheating episode is the catalyst to kick start Jaynie into taking some interest in her physical appearance which Brian luckily reaps all the benefits. He swoops in as the rebound man to enjoy an exuberant and newly sexually awaken Jaynie. This lusty interlude has been a long time coming. The vanilla sex in this story is sweet and slow like gentle rain. This romance is recommended for readers who enjoy a friends to lover theme.

I am soooo freakin disappointed and pissed that this novella made me waste my time on it. At first, I was really looking forward to it because the plot seemed really interesting: the heroine is cheated on by her fiance? damn what a bastard. Said woman goes to her long time friend for some much needed confidence-boosting sex? Ooooh sounds delicious. Said long time friend has feelings for her and wants more from her than one night? Yummy yum yum bring it on. But suddenly, said sexy male friend is a stupid asshole? Ugh, please, really? *tosses book out the window*

This had so much potential if the hero just hadn't made me want to slap him and cringe from him! I thought he was going to be this amazing guy that completely romanced the heroine and swept her off her feet. But guess what? it's more like he pushed her down a flight of stairs and left her bleeding. See, this is how my thought process went...

Ok, girl at a party with her kind of assholy bf, ok, keep going...
...Oh fuck no he did not just do that...
...Oh he did not...yes, yes he did
...Hmm, some hot rebound sex with best friend's sexy-as-fuck brother? Me likey...
...Said sexy-as-fuck brother is into some domination? Ooooh tell me more...
...Wait, I didn't mean tell me that much...wait, are you serious? WHAT THE FUCK!?...
...Ok, that was painful, but lets keep going...
...Ok, nice, nice, better...
...Yea, you go girl!...
...Wait, are you serious dude? you know what, go fuckin die.

And now, to explain my thought process

Whew, sorry about the rant, but it's not stopping here, cus THEN ...

And here's the kicker folks...

So there you go, this novella can just go burn. Brian was a fucking asshole and I hope I don't come across a hero as hateful as him ever again.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I've read many other stories by Shiloh Walker before. They were mostly quick contemporary romance reads that I always enjoyed. Her stories are made up of ordinary everyday characters that readers can easily relate to. She writes love stories that happen to everyday people. He stories aren't that unique, but I like them because these kinds of books have been tried and tested many times. The only thing is that Ms. Walker intensifies these stories and makes them steamier, so they become elevated.

I liked this book because it's a friends-to-lovers trope. If you've followed my blog, you'd know that that's my favorite trope. One of the things I liked about this book was the pacing. The plot was simple enough, and Ms. Walker didn't complicate it with unnecesary conflicts. I liked the hero. Man, if I were single and I had a friend like that, I'd be jumping his bones too. I also liked that the heroine was very realistic. She had insecurities, of course, especially after what her ex did to her. However, she wasn't one to just fade into the background and be closed off to other people.

Overall, I liked this book. I like the steamy scenes even if I've read thousands of similar scenes from her and other authors. I think I like that this book wasn't really into heavey emotional shit.

I loved this story. It was so sweet, yet very sensual. Brian... oh my gawd! He's wonderful.

There is only one thing that pisses me off about this book: the title. It mentions that she was "one of the guy", but not really. She had a steady relationship with a guy and she was hot, even if she doesn't dress up often. It was very misleading. Still, I loved Jaynie. She's smart, tough, and feminine. Brian brings out the best out of her and they're just really cute together.

*squirms uncomfortably* I don't like leaving negative reviews and I hardly do, since I'm a fairly good judge of what I am going to enjoy reading. But it does happen sometimes, where I don't like a story/book.

Okay - so - there will be spoilers, but not for much as I did not finish this book, readers. *stares at screen, ready for the BOOs*

I know I know - hear me out. I just couldn't find the want in me to finish this book. I will provide you with my opinion with the first 50% of the book, which is what I read.

Jaynie walks in on her scumbag of a fiance having a menage a trois with another woman and a friend of his. He basically makes her feel bad for not being a "feminine girl" and this pretty much (and understandably so) shatters her confidence. I mean, her FIANCE said this to her - yeah, I don't blame her for that punch in the gut.

Jaynie turns to her friend who lets her stay in her and her brother's home. Said brother, Brian, is of course a handsome guy that happens to be Jaynie's boss/co worker. Since she had her confidence blown to bits and feeling a bit less than girly, Jaynie asks Brian for a one night stand - no strings attached. They have a pretty sexy night and after that Brian can't seem to stop thinking about her.

Now - up to this point, I'm a little bored with the story. I've read sad romance stories before, but this one was just...BLEAK. I don't know if it was because the thought of Jaynie's womanhood/femininity was based solely on her fiance or if it's because there is almost no insight into Jaynie and Brian's relationship BEFORE the one night stand. I mean - they worked together...wouldn't they have something to talk about, to fall back on?

Anyway, I was still with the story until the second sexual encounter. It included anal sex. The anal sex is not what turned me off of the story. Brian does ask her if it's okay, and she does give consent. BUT at one point, she says, "Brian, stop it...please. Oh shit, it hurts." I hate to get all XXX rated with you all, but I'm not being gratuitous. When I hear STOP IT, I hear STOP and NO. It's the way I am - it's the way I understand things. So, when Jaynie says this, I WANTED HIM TO STOP.

But he didn't.

I don't care that her body kept egging him on - I care about what she said. And it would have been just fine if Brian would have just stopped and, hey, maybe they try again later since now she knows how it feels.

That part just really turned me off and I saw Brian as this guy that was just after the sex and his physical satisfaction. This isn't want I look for in a romance or love story. My opinion may not be your opinion, and that is just fine. We are all entitled to like what we like - I just didn't particularly like this.

Jaynie is happy with her life. She works as a veterinarian and shares the practice with one of her closest friends, Brian, who is also her BFF's older brother. And she has a fiance, Dean, whom she's loved since high school. The only flaw in their relationship is that Dean has been pushing her since college to indulge in his menage fantasies, but she's always refused him. One night after work, she comes home only to catch him in flagrante with their flirtatious neighbor, Kit and Dean's best friend. Heartbroken, she leaves and flees to Kate and Brian's house.

When Dean shows up there trying to apologize and to win her back, she won't have it and throws his ring back in his face. Incensed, he yells at her and says some very nasty things that totally crush her confidence in herself. One day, she's staring at herself in the bathroom mirror thinking over Dean's words when Brian accidentally walks in on her. Jaynie isn't so much stunned that her friend and business partner has just seen her in her birthday suit. No, what stuns her is the heat she saw in his eyes when he took her in. Needing some comfort and reassurance, she decides to seduce him. Just one night with no strings attached.

Their one night blurred the lines of their friendship, but it didn't hamper their desire for one another. Brian wants more from her, but can she learn to trust a man again, and can she overcome her own insecurities to see that she's all Brian has ever wanted?

Brian .... God, where to start? He was nearly perfect. He was so sweet and caring towards Jaynie; he always has been. Judging from the passion he unleashes on her, she never suspected that her childhood friend and colleague had all of that in him. The love scenes set the pages aflame with their hotness, and his ability to $% her into oblivion as well as make gentle love makes him a hunk you want for a husband.

Jaynie Holmes was engaged to her longtime high school sweetheart, Dean Albridge, until she catches him in bed with his best friend and their busty neighbor. Taking comfort and refuge in Kate’s (her best friend) home, Jaynie is surprised when she feels an attraction to Kate’s older brother Brian, who also happens to be Jaynie’s co-worker and business partner.

One of the Guys is a super sexy, quick read. I loved Jaynie and Brian’s romance; a true friends-to-lovers story that was equal parts heartwarming and steamy. Brian and Jaynie’s chemistry was explosive, and Brian's alpha demanding possessive side in bed was uber hot. I enjoyed that Jaynie took the time to evaluate her life and make changes for herself after leaving Dean.

I did have a few issues with the quick changing point-of-views between Jaynie to Brian, some of which were done mid-scene and without distinguish. I also didn’t like how negatively Brian reacted to a scene between Jaynie and Dean towards the end of the story. It felt overly dramatic and done for the sole purpose of conflict.

One of the Guys is an enjoyable, entertaining novella. In fact, I would have loved an epilogue or something to let me know how Jaynie and Brian were doing down the road, extending the story a bit longer. In the end, this is a wonderful short to pick up when you are in the mood for a satisfying love story.

I love Shiloh Walker's books and this book didn't let me down. But Shiloh Walker never does. She is one of those writers that I just buy and read. I don't read the blurb to decide if I should get the book or not. I know I'll love the book and I always do.

I really liked this story and the charaters. Brian has to be one of my favorite non-paranormal guys of all time. He is HOT, SEXY, SMART, STRONG and HOT ... REALLY HOT! Jaynie is very likable, strong and smart. She recovers from a broken heart and bruised feelings and keeps her life together when an ass of fiance betrays her. I wanted to kick Jaynie's ex a few times myself. And she does it without making me want to jump into the book and shake her. Brian's sister is Jaynies best friend and I loved the way they stick up for each other. I would love to read about his sister Katie. If she doesn't have her own book, she should.

I'm off to find more Shiloh Walker books. Not sure if there are any more out there that I don't already have.
But I need to make sure I haven't missed Kate's story (if it's out there).

3-1/2 stars.

I really loved that this book sort of flipped a favorite trope on its axis--this time, the guy is the one pining--and it's lots of fun!

Shiloh Walker is one of my favorite authors. She always brings the heat--that's a given. But this time, she also brought a swoony guy that I really loved and an unpredictable twist to a tried-and-true storyline. I loved Brian so much. And therein lies the problem with this book to me. He was so sexy and sweet and swoony, Jaynie totally--I mean totally didn't deserve him! The ending was a little abrupt for me and I hope we'll see more of these characters in the future.

I got this AMAZING book on Netgalley for an honest review and it was five stars for me !
http://thesecretworldofbooklovers.blo...
The story focus on two old friends that come together after one of them (Jainey) suffers from a hard break up that makes her doubt herself as a woman.

She is in need of someone to make her feel a woman again, and wanted, even if it is for one night, but things never work out the way you want them to.

Their story is fun, sexy and with a lot of ups and downs, we loved Brian from the start! he is HOT and falls for her right from the beginning of the book, he knows what he wants, and that is her !

It's nice to have a male character that owns his feelings without giving too much thought, refreshing!
If you are looking for a fun fast read, this is your book !

Sex scenes are Crazy good! lots of good chemistry.

It was a good book, if you take the cheating part aside.

Jaynie and Brian has a lot of chemistry. Brian it´s a sweetheart towards Jaynie, and deals quite well with her request.

Not really original, but its worthy the time taken to read it.

Foi um bom livro, se você colocar a traição de lado.

Jaynie e Brian têm muita química. E ele é um amor para Jaynie, e lida muito bem com o pedido dela.

Não é realmente original, mas vale o tempo necessário para lê-lo.

Light, cool and perfect to spend a relaxing moment.

It was well written and the characters were great to follow around. Like Brian and Jaynie story. It was cute, sexy and fun to read.

Maybe not a book with a "wow" factor but a honestly great story, well balanced between the plot and the sex scenes. It is the perfect read to take it easy and decompress after a long day.
Cool one!

I quite liked this quick read. As most romance novels do, it had its problems, but it kept me going so that I finished it in one sitting. I will definitely read more from this author.

Some things I liked: Brian was a nice hero, he listened to Jaynie and cared for her and actually Their physical relationship was really hot and I liked how he pushed her boundaries but also made sure she was still liking what he was doing.
I also liked the little glimpses we got into Jaynie and Brian’s history and childhood together. I would have liked this to be more developed, I think it would have made the story richer and sweeter.

Some things I didn’t like: Jaynie seemed really blind about her ex Dean’s failings, like really really blind. From what I’ve heard, this can be absolutely true in a relationship, but it still felt grating. I just can’t understand it. The second thing was that Dean

This book was like 10% romance 90% sex...

Sex sex sex!
I had to skip some of the scenes because it was getting ridiculously too much lol
The in-between events were ok: Jaynie is bestie with Kate, and Kate's brother is Brian, Jaynie's partner at their vet clinic.

When the story starts, Jaynie was dating trashbag Dean who is craving for a 3some. Jaynie refuses but Dean doesn't let go of course! Years later they are still together and she stumbled upon him, his friend and another girl going at it.

So she ran to Kate who lives with Brian and after breaking up with Dean, she now lives with Brian and Kate. The build up was nice, slowly getting Brian and Jaynie together for that first night.
Still good after the 1st night because they were ignoring each other, each thinking the other one only wanted one night and it was angsty and good. But then they get back together quickly and the sex never stops!
Until the end when we have a ridiculous misunderstanding that is quickly resolved before the ILUs.

Short smut, not enough character development so the story felt flat. It was just ok...

Quick, steamy read about a woman who walks in on her fiancé in a threesome with his buddy and the woman who lives across the street. After her fiancé hurls some very hurtful words at her, she turns to her long-time friend and business partner for comfort. She asks him for just one night but hidden feelings rise to the surface and suddenly, one night isn’t enough.

A story about wanting revenge and ending up with something different and better. What starts out as Jaynie wanting to go show up her cheating fiancé (with her best friends brother) ends up as a journey of self discovery, personal growth and yes, worthwhile love.

description

This is the second book that I've read by Ms. Shiloh Walker and it most definitely will not be the last. I just absolutely love everything about her writing style. You better buckle up because this review is going to be a bit of a love fest.

You know, after I finished reading One of the Guys, I decided to take a peak at some other reviews. This is something that I NEVER do because I don't want what someone else thinks to taint my own feelings before I get them down in my review. I won't lie, there can be transference sometimes. Anyhow, I'm reading just review after review and I was a little shocked at what some of the people who didn't like the book were saying. I just didn't get any of the negative feelings that they did when reading this. Although ... I'm not totally for sure that this book should be classified as an erotica novel. It seemed like a regular ol' romance to me but the Genre Gods didn't seem to agree with me.

So ... the characters are great. I just really loved everything about Jaynie. I liked how she stood up for herself (finally) and how she didn't let her fiance's shenanigans break her spirit. She's a tough chick and I appreciate that in the leading lady of a novel. It just makes things more interesting than when the woman is a pushover and plays Poor Poor Me constantly. I also enjoyed getting to know Brian. I thought that he was a standup dude and the type of guy that all women wish that they had in their lives. Experiencing the ebb and flow of their (sometimes tumultuous) relationship was endearing and sometimes heartbreaking. It's a love story that you'll enjoy reading. Well, once you get past the cheating bastard part. That just made me want to punch the coward in the throat.

The story chugs along at an awesome pace. There aren't any 'sweet baby Jesus, please make it end' parts that just shouldn't be included in the book. If it's on those pages, it's vital to the story. Since Walker writes that way, you will find yourself just blowing through page after page and not realizing that you're done with the book when you reach the last sentence.

Well, Walker has got me hooked. After one great book from an author, I find that I'm still a little leery about reading another book by that author. You just never know if that first one was a fluke and you'll be wasting your time on another one. But we're officially in the clear with ANY Shiloh Walker book. I'm a fan for life. Great characters, great story, great reading experience. Great. Book.

I love this book! One of the main reasons is because i am so much like the girl its not even funny ! I am 'one of the guys' I would rather be in a tshirt and a pair of jeans and i honestly HATE to do my hair and makeup.(right now it is highlighted but that took me 3 years to go thru with it) So yes. thats one of the reasons why i love this book. Me and her we CLICKED. Theres not many books where i click with the female but this one. Very much so!
So. Janie. Shes a girl who finds out that her fiance is in the bed with his best friend and a girl from college that she despises. Her fiance comes over and tells her some very hateful stuff that well provakes her of being herself. Like one of it is 'You don't even know how to act like a woman' not the exact same words but you get my drift. Its pitiful. Janie is a Tomboy with some BIG boobs lol. She tells you all about them in the book. But She is a girl who is a Tomboy. She knows how to throw a right hook, knows how to relax in a pair of jeans and a tshirt. She doesn't spend hours trying to dress up for a guy, she relaxes, and shes herself.
Brian is her sisters best friends big brother. And well they finally notice each other after an incidient in the bathroom after the stuff went down with Janie and her ExFiance. Brian is a Vet who has always looked out for Kate, his sister, and her best friend Janie. From Childhood to College, and now in adult hood. After one night of pure sexual bliss with no strings or emotions attached, things turn for Brian and Janie. Can they ever be just friends again, or will things drive them apart for the worst, or does it drive them closer for the best.
This book has ALOT of 'real life' situactions that can actually happen. Some you really don't want to happen but there are some that does happen in real life.
In the beginning of the book you find out about a situaction that happens at a collage Guys Frat Party involving Janie and her fiance and things doesn't seem right from there.
So This book. Well its great ! I loved it.
So would i reread it again?! probably not, only because its such a short read. And things moves just a little fast, which is a good thing since the book is only about 113 pages.
but would i recommend it?! Absolutely
I received this book for my honest review !

I have to say, my opinion of this book was all over the place.

For the first half, I found it light, but unrealistic and predictable. Jaynie walks in on her fiancé in the midst of a threesome. Hurt and betrayed, she runs to her best friend’s house. Her best friend, Kate, lives with her brother, Brian, who also happens to be Jaynie’s business partner. In an effort to make herself feel better, Jaynie offers herself to Brian, and a night of wild sex ensues.

After the one night, fast forward several months. No one mentions what went on, no one discusses it. In fact, it seems like Jaynie and Brian hardly speak at all. This would be plausible if they didn’t work together and Jaynie wasn’t now living in Brian’s garage apartment. But this changes when Jaynie is invited to her ex’s wedding and needs a date so that she’s not there alone.

Hold up.

Why anyone would contemplate going to a wedding of an ex that cheated on them three months ago is beyond me. This seemed like too easy of a device to throw Brian and Jaynie together, but back to the plot.

Jaynie and Brian rekindle their connection.

At this point, although I found the story to be predictable, I was starting to enjoy it. The sex was steamy and hot, Brian had the dominance thing going for him, and his feelings for Jaynie were more than just sexual. He truly cared for her and it was sweet, and I was becoming a fan of the story.

And then it stopped.

The book didn’t truly end. The story just stopped without really finishing. And to be honest, I felt cheated. I was expecting the story to go somewhere, but instead it just meandered and then fell off and was done. The actions in the story were too predictable and I found that I didn’t really have a connection with any of the characters. They were all too one dimensional.

This story was an easy way to pass the time and the sex was great, but for me, it just didn’t give me anything I haven’t read before.

One of the Guys (OOTG) by Shiloh Walker is exactly what you would expect from a Shiloh Walker book– a super hot, super sexy, read. One that you whisper the sexy parts to your significant other…or at least that’s what I’m planning to do.
This story surrounds Jaynie, a veterinarian, who just discovered her boyfriend from college is cheating on her with their neighbor. Later, he explains that he cheated due to her lack of femininity. She recovers at her best friend’s house, Kate who lives with Brian, Kate’s older brother and Jaynie’s fellow veterinarian. As the days go on and Dean’s words start getting to her and Brian, accidentally walks in on her naked. She realizes that the look in his eyes, is exactly what she needs. She proposes sex, no strings attached.
The sweet: This is a friends-to-lovers story but still felt a little different. I liked that both are trying to deal with their developing feelings for each other at the same time. It wasn’t one where he has been in love with her and is feeling used, or trying to get her to change her mind, instead it’s a story of discovery.
The sexy: Although still better than most, the first sex scene was tame for Shiloh Walker’s books. But then the second quickly followed and I realized the first was just a tease, build-up to the explosiveness that is Brian. I almost felt ashamed for doubting SW.
I gave this book 4 stars, because I felt that the ending was too abrupt. I love my epilogues, I can’t help it. I want to see them wrap it up and in love. I want a hint of a Kate story, where we’ll visit Jaynie and Brian again and see them engaged. I just wanted more, but then I always do with couples that I adore.
Thank you again Shiloh Walker for a wonderful read.

Chouette, chouette, chouette !
