Although I personally didn’t find anything blatantly wrong in this book, it was just a little boring. I would have enjoyed hearing these people’s stories with a little more...I don’t want to say color, because that makes it seem like I don’t want the facts. But I just would have preferred a little more detail, I suppose.

This has been a great series overall. I personally would have preferred to see only the central figures highlighted in a series like this, aimed at educating young people about the faith, but the stories told are both engaging and will give the general feel of certain movements. I recommend this to those of any age who want to know more about church history, but with an important caveat for Christian parents/educators --- this series is a very broad look at Christianity, with certain individuals underlined that do not necessarily represent sound orthodoxy. With just some discussion points for younger people, it is well worth the read.

Just finished reading this book (and series) to my boys this morning. While it does cover a broad range of people (one or two at least that I wouldn’t have included), I love reading stories to my kids that show the sacrifices of those who walked before us.

This whole series has been fantastic to read with my kids! It really puts our own lives in perspective to read about the sacrifices of those who have run the race before us.

Rescue and Redeem is the final book in the fascinating History Lives series. Once again, it contains very interesting, action-packed stories of many modern Christians who have changed the world in some way for Christ. Some are well-known; some obscure enough that I had never heard of them before. One especially interesting story described the life of the last member of the royal family of Hawaii. I never knew...

I confess, after thoroughly enjoying the previous books in the series, I didn't buy this one.
My concern is that it is so difficult to get perspective on recent events. To have a good feeling for which lives and stories will shape future times. So, I decided to skip it.
But, if you have read it and feel differently, I am open to persuasion. Any thoughts out there?
