A collection of the author's science fiction stories, including "From Zemo They Came," "A Visit from Astra," "The Battle of the Space Ships," and other stories.
A good collection of short stories from a wide time span and styles. My favourite story was “Specialist”. A point off for the dreadful cover, and the fact gst my copy fell apart after reading it (cheaply made book).
Despite the low star rating, this is a fascinating collection that will appeal to serious SF fans. There are stories going back all the way to Mary Shelley and up to the (nineteen) nineties, with something by everyone who was anyone in the intervening decades (with a few notable exceptions). I recognised several old tales in the collection and found some new and enjoyable stories. However, the collection was very variable, with some stories that really weren't worth reprinting. Sadly, it was the newer stories that were the worst. Maybe it's harder to get permission to reprint the good stuff from currently-popular authors. I'd hate to think this was a true reflection of how sci-fi had changed over the years.
