Percy Janes was a Newfoundland literary icon. Author of the great Canadian classic House of Hate (Margaret Laurence wrote that Saul Stone is “one of the most terrifying and yet tragic father figures in all Canadian literature”), The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council presents an annual literary award, the Percy Janes First Novel Award, in his memory.
Not for me. only found one poem in the whole collection that I enjoyed. It reminds me of the poems they taught in school, the stiff, stuffy kind of stuff that old admins put on the syllabus just because it used alliteration, not because they made them feel anything. The use of strange words like "Bionized" gives the impression that it was written for those classes to spend hours discussing its meaning, and not because someone wanted to express themselves.
