“As Maru stood gripping the tall, iron fence in the field leading to the forest, she thought of the past again...The memories remained etched in her brain. She groaned softly, irritated.”

Once you’re haunted, your life will never be the same. The following is a collection of short stories featuring oddballs, including a family man with a penchant for his childhood toys, a mysterious man—but is he really?—whose regular walks become more stressful, a devoted student librarian trying to maintain the sanctity of her cherished place, and a young woman willing to put up with—almost—anything to get her business off the ground. What the characters find out is that anything can haunt you. Tensions rise. Boundaries are pushed. Relationships will be tested. Can the characters reclaim their lives without losing their sanity in the process? These whimsical tales bring the laughs, embrace the weird, raise eyebrows, and hopefully tug at your heart. You don’t want to miss it!

Before I begin, I would like to note that I know the author personally. She is very kind, and very sweet, and I am so happy she has finally been published. With that being said, my opinions are entirely my own. To the best of my ability, I am going to be as unbiased as possible.

Looking at the book as a whole, the setting was beautiful. In each short story, Evans did a wonderful job at setting the scene and the characters. The length of each short story was good - not too long, not too short. It's easy to get carried away, but the author does a wonderful job at pacing their words and plot.

Though these short stories were not connected to one another, some of the settings were very similar to one another. For some people, I believe that it wouldn't pose an issue, but there were times I got confused.

A few of the protagonists also felt similar to one another, which caused me some confusion. Again, this may not happen to every reader. Though the protagonists were well-written, at times it felt as if they we never in the wrong. The characters were not always kind and were flawed, but they also were never punished or held accountable for their actions. With flawed characters, it's important to balance out their actions. Yes, these characters have reasons to be upset and reasons to spur their actions, but despite the audience knowing that these actions are "bad", the protagonists never held any blame.

Overall, Evans does a wonderful job building these worlds and characters. Each story was interesting - you never knew what you were going to get. The author writes with an undeniable passion, which creates a good experience for the reader. To the author - I am proud of you, and thank you for opening the space for me to review.
