With the fate of the galaxy at risk -- love may not be enough...

In the lawless fringes of deep space, pirate Tia Sen has a rep for being hard as plascrete, tough as Amalan leather, and as strong as she is beautiful. She also has a secret that courts death: For years she has been freeing enslaved children. Stepping in to rescue a valiant mechanic from a near-fatal beating risks more than her life. Thanks to her traitorous heart, her web of lies is in danger of unraveling.

Undercover operative Rork Al Ren is no stranger to lies. Emotionally scarred by the murders of his wife and unborn child, he wants nothing more than to eradicate every bit of pirate scum in the galaxy. Then his mission goes sour, and he finds himself Tia's personal slave and -- falling in love with the very pirate he's sworn to destroy.

Yet love is a luxury he can't afford. Tia possesses a powerful new weapon that could overwhelm the Union of Planets and plunge the galaxy into war.

If Rork can't convince her to surrender it -- he may have to break her trust -- and her heart.

I picked up my first Harlequin presents at age 11 and proceeded to voraciously read every kind of Romance under the sun, but fell in love with the wild side, Scence Fiction Romance, Paranormal Romance, and Fantasy Romance.
After getting my degree in English as a Writing Art at SUNY Oswego and a Masters in Library Science at the University of Buffalo, I worked as a school librarian for five years in Webster, NY, before chasing my dream of publication.
I live with my family and two dogs( a basenji and a vizsla) in Columbus, Ohio.

Rork Al'Ren, is working undercover as Ren to track Captain Sen, leader of a murderous team of space pirates, when the ship he is on is attacked. During a beating he is rendered unconscious and saved by Tia, daughter of the leader. The tracking device he had hoped to attach is discovered, although not on him. He, along with the other captives, are to be taken to the Tiger, the parent pirate ship to be sold as slaves. Tia keeps Ren as her personal slave and he is collared with a control device. Ren must bide his time for escape and is constantly in Tia's company. Tia has another side that she keeps hidden, saving people from slavery behind her father's back. When Tia is sent to collect a new technology and a rogue pirate attempts to assassinate her for the device, she and Ren, go on the run. This was an action packed space opera and a fun read.

Uneven at best. Rork, the hero, is a standard alpha, but Tia, the heroine - for being such a formidable pirate - veers too often into a damsel who needs to be rescued. It's a dense, slow start that picks up into stronger action, only to grind to a screeching halt when they get stuck on a planet. It seems to take forever for the pace to pick up again, and while the ending is predictable and telegraphed from chapters back, at least it was tightly paced and entertaining.

Reread - sometimes I'm in the mood to really enjoy some melodramatic space opera and this is a great example of the genre.
