Return of the Horde #1

Live and Let Orc

Rate this book
Sometimes, you go looking for love. And other times, it's blocking your path.
I'm loaded down with a backpack full of stolen weapons when a seven-foot wall of orc steps in front of me. He's got three-inch tusks pressing into a curling upper lip, eight-pack abs, fists the size of cantaloupes and his heated gaze devours me.

I make it out of there alive, barely.

The next day, the same orc that blasted my panties and made me wonder what a tusk laced kiss would feel like turns up at my festival booth sending my customers running for their lives.

I’m ready to blast him with both barrels but, before I get a word out, I'm over his shoulder wondering less about those tusks and more about what’s under that leather kilt he’s wearing.

Soon, I’m falling hard for this primal monster. But, will the burning bridges between our two worlds keep us apart or will we forge our own path to our happily ever after?

Author’s After being enslaved on an alien planet, these orcs are back, and they are ready! Safe, no cheating, fated mates and all the Daddy-monster urges you didn’t know you needed.

This is the first in the Al-pha Horde series of interconnected stand alones about four orc brothers! Raven and Mol tear up the pages, leaving you with a heavy sigh, dreaming of finding your own orc daddy someday.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve made up stories. I would lay in my bed at night and before I knew what a trope was, I would make up these trope filled stories. Boy sees girl, boys falls for girl, boy saves girl….happily ever after. As I got older, the stories turned steamier and more intricate, but the basics never changed.

Now, my books are still full of romance but the naughty bits are naughtier, my hero’s are obsessed alpha types and my heroines are quirky, real women who come in all shapes and sizes.

So, sit back, banish the real world and get lost in some over the top romance with a heaping helping of hot. xoxoxo

Me: Constantly seeking new orc romances
Also me: Constantly kind of let down :(

I had an inkling from page 1 that this wasn't going to be a book for me. I don't love post-apocalyptic stories, especially when they're set on earth. In this series, orcs were taken from earth hundreds of years ago (I guess in this universe 300+ years ago didn't exist? I don't know) and enslaved on another planet. Now they're back, there's prejudice, etc etc.

It's just such a bleak setting. Food is sparse, people are just trying to survive... it has a very different feeling than even Orc Sworn, which does have a dark setting as well (medieval-ish, humans at war with orcs) but manages to feel more optimistic because the orcs have their own little self contained world.

I got 51% in when I called it... DNF. Because immediately after throwing the 5'0" human woman (and of course he is 7'+++) over his shoulder, she's like "yes, you're sexy. I want you. Let me call you DADDY!"

Whiplash!

Electricity is spotty in the worst areas, gasoline and natural gas are in short supply, but the government has managed to maintain cell service almost everywhere. There’s still Netflix and Bravo with the Kardashians, two of which are now in relationships with orcs. Most say it’s just for ratings, but who knows, and more truthfully, who cares? The Real Housewives of Orange County is still on but those New Jersey gals? Jersey’s a wasteland so, yeah, that’s all re-runs now.

⏺Call me a HUGE idiot. But, I gave 3 stars JUST for this paragraph. The joke is SOOO SUBTLE . Right!? 🤣

✅Dnf.- 4th chapter.
✅Unengaging book. I did not understand what was happening. when the book started off.... It was like the author wanted us to already know what was going on. This was the case with me since I don't read dystopian romances. I'm sure you guys will figure it out.
✅Post-apocalypse romance.
✅V-h. She is SO strong. I LOVED her. Love love love looooove her.
✅H....Idk? He's an orc.
✅No-cheating.
✅GOOD. REALLY good smut. Like..... holy-moly guacamole good.😛😉🔥🔥

This story was a mess.
Big potential with the world building which made me excited, after that the entire thing went down hill. I don’t even know that I can list all the issues to be honest. The biggest turn off was description of the first 🌶️ scene “her slippery cunt torn and bleeding as I see stars.” No thanks. Immediately ruined the rest of the story. Just all around not done well. If the idea were given more pages or a different author, I think it could have been great, but the world building was the only decent part of the story.

“I will make you my toy, make you filthy with me, breed you, guide you, then bathe you like my precious jewel.”

Live and Let Orc was such a fun smut filled banger. I was in the mood for a dirty Orc romance and all I saw before clicking “download” was “Orc Daddy Dom”. Yeah that’s literally all it took. While this clan of orcs are more primitive, they have a sense of family and responsibility. So when Mol comes across Raven while she’s scavenging through an abandoned house, he immediately knows she’s his mate. That triggers the mating bond and heat for them. I loved the little bits of info we get of the Orcs background. They were here before humans, stolen to be slaves by aliens, and then centuries later they have returned after gaining their freedom only to find their land overrun by humans. This causes riots and fighting and general upheaval. But Raven has never looked down at Orcs. She finds them a little fascinating and just wants to be able to live alongside them unlike her prejudiced parents.

Yeah I had a blast and I am excited to read the next one when it comes out! Loved the steam, the kink, the small world building, and getting to know some of the other Orcs I hope to see later.

Ok Listen.....

I was looking for an ORC spicy book and I found one.

I wont bore you with a synopsis, this is what the blurb of the book is for.

Mol is fated to Raven and the spicy was good. Bear in mind that this is monster smut, so he has double the appendages, and he has a daddy kink. It was hot for a novella.

I dont know how I feel about this post Apocalyptic Mad Max Fury Road meets Hunger Games District 12 meets Maze Runner Meets Purge setting.....Oh and shes pregnant for a year, but she is the size of house and leaking milk after 3 days. Take of that what you will.

The story was okay however the daddy thingy was a bit random. Also, the heroine was a bit confusing. One minute she’s struggling and plotting her escape and then next thing she just suddenly accepted everything.

This actually started out really well. I thought I'd lucked out. Then the two of them met, and the whole thing went to shit. Look, I'll fully admit that daddy-kink is not my thing on the best of days. But something about the way it is used here gave me a special sense of ick. And everything about it just seemed to get worse the longer the book went on. They have translators that translate all the languages and he can speak perfectly well. But his syntax deteriorated when speaking to her for no apparent reason. The sex (and it's erotica; most of the books are sex) just sounds painful. His possessiveness doesn't come across as endearing or even bad-boy alpha but just as a huge flying red flag. And honestly, the way he behaved and talked during coitus didn't match what little we learned of him outside the bedroom. All in all, it may be a matter of taste, but despite the moment of high hopes in the beginning, this was a flop for me.

Meh/

I liked the world building, orc return, and culture; although the plot needs a lot of development. I didn’t mind the Dom/submissive, but the daddy/baby bit was a little ewwy and the third person baby talk was simply annoying. I also didn't like how he over-road her personal autonomy without consent and then took her the first time with minimal preparation tearing her open while she screamed and bled. That's not sexy time... that's horrifying.

Earth is different since the orcs came back, and Raven's life too. Her parents have turned into people she no longer recognizes. Her pregnant best friend is moving away to raise her baby far from the NHC vs. Orcs chaos. And just when Raven thinks she's alone, she meets Mol and her life is different again.

This is my second attempt at falling in love with an orc novel, so I was expecting either something sweet or something hot, and I wasn't disappointed. The plot of this book isn't particularly complex. It's very straightforward — girl meets orc, they mate, they make babies. But I really liked being introduced to the orc-verse by this book.

I could scent her from across the galaxy and the aching down my spine is another sign I cannot ignore. (Kindle, page 24).

The characters' points of view did a good job of showing who they're and what they're afraid of in so little space. I felt like Raven was afraid of losing something - her parents, her friends, her home - while Mol was afraid of gaining something. He didn't want to find a partner because he didn't think he was cut out for the job of protecting a family of his own because that was a weakness.

[…] watching their mates turn to stone as they perished, that was not going to be part of my life. I exist to protect. To lead. To secure our freedom. To fight for our race against the human enemy. To mate would mean I have a weakness. The need to protect a mate would be a distraction and a distracted leader is a dangerous leader. It is enough to fight for our land, our safety, all while finding myself under the scrutiny of the Judicial Enforcement which presses harder and harder for our kind to bend to their human laws. (Kindle, page 24)

This book is well-written, even tho it is a shorter story . That being said, I must point out that this is a page-turner. It has about 160 pages, but it kept me so entertained I finished it quickly — I wish I could have pulled and all nighter, but I’m too old for that.

One thing that caught my attention was the mentions about the Human Coalition and all the Orc hatred that inspired so much of the politics in this “new” Earth. I think it provided a some depth and made Orcs seem believable in our planet. I’ll stay tuned for the next one and see where does Dani take us with that.

"[...]. These are the same people that named the bus LIVE AND LET LIVE. I remember helping them paint it on both sides. How can they go from that to fascist segregationists? They said they’re gathering signatures for some new amendment outlawing humans and orcs cohabiting or marrying in Texas." (Kindle, page 3)

I must confess that a double dicked guy took some time to get used to, and I caught myself thinking about physics and how some moves would be even possible while having sex instead of focusing on the story (laughs). We have some daddy kink and also breeding and knotting — which are fine for me, it is content I enjoy and we had two consenting adults performing them. That reminds me to mention that when Mol realizes Raven is too small for a woman (which is absolutely okay, we have petite girls on Earth in real life) he asks her if she is of age and she confirms she is — just to show that play is ok as long as it is with adults ;) So, that’s your trigger warning, fellow reader.

Lastly, if you enjoyed the “Monsters Love Curvy Girls” series by Michelle Mills and “Vandalar Concubines” series by V.K. LudwigV.K. Ludwig, you’ll really like this one! I recommend this book to those who love to read the monster romances in general (my orc romance game is limited… yet) and are looking for short page-turner.

So in this world orcs used to live here on earth (with humans i think? it’s not clarified) a few hundred years ago, but they were captured by aliens from another planet and enslaved. They finally freed themselves and have returned to earth to find it as we know it now, and society is divided on how they should be accepted and there’s a lot of prejudice and Orcs only live on the north side of the country.

Which is where Raven currently is, bc she hates the prejudice of the south. So she’s making do up north living on a schoolbus she’s converted into an RV. She breaks into abandoned homes (lots of people fled south when the orcs got there and just left all their stuff) and makes a living selling what she finds. That’s how she runs into Mol, who’s clan lives in a primitive community on the other side of the woods behind the house she was raiding. He basically kidnaps her bc she’s his mate lol.

I sweep my arm under her ass and mount her belly over my shoulder. She is not staying here. Not where she is unprotected. She is small, soft and…mine.

♥︎
“I am Mol, my family name is Lakktra. I am leader of clan Vrogkol. Now, tell me your name.”

“My name is Nunnya,” I hiss.

“This is a nice name. Nunnya.” He grumbles. “I have not heard this name before for humans.”

“Yeah, really?”

“Yes, what is your family name. Nunnya…what?”

“Nunnya business. Now…” I slam my clenched fist into his butt again. “Put.” Pound. “Me.” Pound, pound. “Down.”

♥︎
Her little feet. They are so cute, like doll toes.

She is a brat, but she is also my baby.

LOLLLLLL loved this book. If you’re into big tough hulking alphas turning into possessive protective ooey gooey marshmallow cinnamon roll softies for their woman, this is for you!

h o t  c l i p s:

My mating instinct has been swollen by a human.

Exacting our revenge has taken a back seat to my new secret primary purpose. Finding her. Mating her. Breeding her.

My senses are heightened, the mating rage growing. And the aching down my spine is another sign I cannot ignore.

I will claim her, screaming if necessary, as my own.

♥︎
“I will do as I please with you. When it pleases me. You will deny me nothing, Selthe. My baby.” I drive my face and tongues back between her legs, desperate.

♥︎
“Yes, baby, Daddy will use both tongues on your little clit.”

♥︎
“You make me do this, little one. You make Daddy want you this way.”

♥︎
“You will love it soon. You will beg for Daddy to ride you morning, noon and night.”

♥︎
“I will mate all of you, little one. Hold on to Daddy.”

♥︎
“Daddy,” I whimper, my forehead falling onto his shoulder as I cling to his neck.

“Shhhh, relax and let Daddy make you feel good again.”

♥︎
“You like that fat cock. Orc cock.”

♥︎
"I've just bareback double fucked an orc five times my size. And called him Daddy. Stick a fork in me, I'm done."

♥︎
“Daddy needs his baby.

It’s time for Daddy to teach you how to be a big girl.”

We've got orcs...

I'm always interested in storylines with new worlds, new species, interspecies relationships. Anything creative and well-written across multiple genres really.

Heroine: Strong, snarky, self-reliant, aware of limits.
Hero: Big, strong, loyal, responsible

While our characters are initially introduced separately on a changed Earth, circumstances bring them together. Our hero recognizes his fated mate but unfortunately speciest issues are in play due to his personal experiences. A short time later (hours) our hero has changed his mind. Upon finding his mate again, he throws her over his shoulder and leaves with her. Our heroine fights...for the amount of time it takes to get to the village. She resigns herself to her fate...for the night. Plans to leave the next day. Mating ensues and the daddy kink hits the pages. What serves as a human hate group/vigilante justice group is the story's antagonist. This group drives the orcs to work together and resolve their speciest issues.

Strike one: Hero doesn't listen to her about taking heroine against her will, leaving her home and only means of survival behind. I get this becomes an issue in the plot later, but it felt contrived to use this as a storyline development.

Strike two: Our heroine flips her position on a dime. She's perfectly content to play her role as mate and completely loses the independent part of her personality that makes her individual, relatable, and even likeable.

Strike three: The "daddy" kink came out of nowhere. Sort of explained. Totally overused for a novella.

All of these issues are of course my own. It's also why I have a hard time with novellas. They are too short to world build, create a good plot, and develop strong characterization that makes a reader not just like the characters but want to jump into their world and live.

Sadly, this is not a series I will continue...

Lost the plot

I love fated mates and possessive orcs, so I was excited to jump into this short story even though it included “Daddy” dynamics, which I’m not a fan of. Typically I can just ignore it, but this book *really* leaned into it and completely infantilized the FMC after they mated. It made me super uncomfortable, *but* I haven’t accounted for that in the book’s rating since I knew it wasn’t something I was into when I started the book, and I’m not going to go into someone’s house knowing they’re making chili for dinner and get upset because I hate chili lol. So keep in mind, my 3 star rating is disregarding the Daddy dynamic completely.

I thought this book was ok. I was super interested in the world at first! I loved the progressiveness of our MC in a new unknown world, I loved seeing her be fierce and take on dangerous jobs, while standing up for what she believes in with her family. However, that all melted away when she mated with her orc. Her personality did a 180 from fierce and caring to bratty child. It’s like the plot dropped out as soon as the sex started and it just became mad horn dog vibes lol. I’m not expecting a complex plot for a 100 page short story, but to give us the taste of one and then drop it as soon as she meets her mate was a bummer.

I ahh don't think this one was for me. Didn't see the daddy(no thank you) Dom bit BUT that wasn't actually the problem

It's short so there's a lot of telling/no development...or plot. Mol's double dicks start glowing(yes seriously) because his mating instincts awaken when he saw Raven. He hates humans and she's ambivalent about orcs, but he snatches her up(literally) because his glowing dicks say so, and when he puts her down... she's kind of into it?

I'm not a fan of insta/fate that never have the characters interact on any other level. So the whole FATE SAYS WE SHOULD FUCK, is a no for me. Having her call him Daddy, what had to be at least a dozen times, felt more like someone saying a word so many times it stops seeming like a word. But the rest that usually goes with that (and the dom part)is nowhere to be found, which I'm personally fine with.

I think the problem was trying to have a character who isn't human, who wouldn't know about that human kink still take part in it, when there's no one to explain it. Esp since he's a virgin/orc culture has them waiting for mates(so closer to procreation sex only)

Soooo I don't know who this is for but it isn't me

Raven and her friend are about to raid a house looking for items to steal and sell. Earth isn’t what it use to be. Orcs landed and took over, but there are people out there JE judicial eradicators? Ready to step in and “make things correct”. Some how Raven is able to leave the house by an inch of her life. But the leader of the clan Mol wants to get what was take back what she stole. Also, he wants her why? He body is glowing when he scented her. He recognized his mating bond is kicking in. Inconceivable! A human is his mate. Him and his clan hate humans. But he wants her. Can he get her to come back with him?

Honestly, I like paranormal romance books. This has its moments but I wasn’t to sold of these two at first. There is some action pack at the beginning and somewhat at the end. I do like how loyal Mol’s family became to Ravens behalf with the rest of the clan. That if Mol choose her and she of him than that’s ok. That for their circumstances things just happened coincidentally and was blamed. Now it seemed weird how Raven was first defensive of Mol when they first met, then became all accepted yes we are mates and yes I’ll call you daddy. What am I missing?

Dani took me for a quick and fun ride while also making me realize that I may have thing for orcs. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down and ended up devouring it one sitting.

Raven is a fearless scavenger just doing what she can to survive from one day to the next. I love her attitude, sass and fire so much - I laughed so many times over what flies out of her mouth.

Mol is the leader of his tribe and he proves on more than one occasion why he is that. This handsome daddy of an orc is fierce, protective and 100% alpha.

Fated mates are a “guilty pleasure” of mine and I love how Dani wrote this so much. It’s fast paced with tons of action, steam and just a dash of kink - but it’s also layered with a storyline that pulled me in and has well developed characters. I will definitely be checking out the next in this series.

A surprise. I liked it more than I thought. I haven’t read a monster romance in a while and this was my first one about Orcs. I kind of wish this was a full length novel and did without the daddy link stuff. But for what it was it was entertaining and I liked the concept, I just wish it was longer to get more world building and history.

POV: Dual, 1st person.
SERIES or STANDALONE: Standalone.
TROPES: M/F adult, age gap (h is 20, H is hundreds of years old), interspecies (human/orc) monster romance.
SIZE: 89 (last page) Kindle pages.

PLOT: 📚📚📚📚📚/5
ROMANCE: ❤️❤️❤️❤️/5
SPICE/STEAM: 🌶🌶🌶/5 (slight daddy kink, 2 tongues & 2 🍆)
DARKNESS/TRIGGERS: 😈/5 (attempted SA not by MMC, murder, violence)

I love the start of this series!

I LOVE a fated mates story!! Raven is trying to exist in a world that now includes Orcs. Earth was their original home centuries ago but, they were taken and held captive. While searching through an abandoned house for treasures, Raven encounters a mob of men that want to do her harm. But, she also encounters Mol. Mol has a distane for humans. But, when he smells that one is his fated mate, nothing will stop him. Not even her!!! I really enjoyed this book. It had great world development. And, there was actually a lot of humor in it with the language differences. I can't wait for the next one!

"You are my beginning and you will be my end."
Smut novella between a human girl(Raven) and an orc alien male(Mol).

Mol is an orc and hates humans:
“I exist to protect. To lead. To secure our freedom. To fight for our race against the human enemy.”
But when he sees Raven, his mating instincts took the better of him and takes R with him:
Finding her. Mating her. Breeding her.
"You are my most precious possession. The most beautiful creature in the universe."
Raven is sceptical of him at first and as him, her mating instincts took over and now they have an HEA.

(This is a novella so it’s an insta-love story)

well

If you love really cringy “daddy” tropes then this is your book. I was delighted with the world building and the character development right up to spicy time when these solid characters went flat and full on horribly scripted, straight incest homemade p*rno. Got pretty bad whiplash as it swung between the two and unfortunately this trope makes me dryer than a desert in full summer so I didn’t fully enjoy all the fun Orc anatomy. Crossing my fingers the whole series isn’t daddy themed. If you genuinely enjoy that very incest-y daddy style then you’ll love this. The world building is honestly super cool and I love the idea, hate the dang trope on this one.

Short and dirty...

Orcs were enslaved for 200 years before returning to earth, a home they no longer recognize. Unfortunately most of it is not for the better. Most humans don't like orcs and want rid of them but some believe they should be allowed to stay. Mol is the leader of his clan and raven makes do on her own selling her paintings or breaking into abandoned homes and finding things to sell. On one fateful day the meet and thats that lol super fast paced book, daddy ki*k, rough play, fated mates and an orc who is super savage but tries to play nice sometimes.

beginning was meh, almost dropped it cuz of how much filler and unnecessary story telling when in it, it starts getting good when h and H meet and the REAL story starts, also politics can make a story turns sour, don’t recommend involving politics in a romance unless u wanna loose a audience fast

umm, like the pretzels on an airline, stale and underwhelming…

2.3/5.0

This book was filler and not very good filler at that. The world was interesting but underdeveloped, with too many detail holes to make it plausible. The characters are nothing, no history or depth or growth, just empty. The action scenes aren’t very detailed or dramatic, there’s no struggle or self preservation or angst or anything, it’s literally just words strung together.

I had this on my list of possible TBR series but after just the first book, I know I won’t be continuing.

Until Next Time,
MC
