Megan Hopkirk was caught in a house fire where her love and partner died. She was burned, and as a result of the trauma lives in a wheelchair.

She still has nightmares about that night and her therapist is working with her. Lately, her nightmares have changed.

She sees dead people in her sleep .. the first was a man who drowned. In her dream she was in the car with him. The second one is a woman she just met ... what Megan sees is herself jumping off the roof of a building. The third was the most horrendous. Megan sees herself stabbing to death a woman she used to work for. When Megan jerks awake, she finds her hands, and bedding, covered with blood.

Has she the gift of a psychic? Is she murdering people while she sleeps?

(Book Blurb) DS Jake Knight is facing a disciplinary hearing following a dangerous operation that left a colleague in hospital. When he is assigned Megan's case, he sees it as a punishment and is eager to dismiss her as a kook.

Slowly as Knight begins to believe in her tales of dreams, she has a dream predicting that he is the next victim. Can he solve his own murder before it happens?

This one had me hooked from the very first page. It's fast-paced with twists and turns leading to an unpredictable ending. The characters are finely drawn and credible.

I have read a number of books by Stephen Edger and know that you are always on for a crazy ride. Deja Vu was no different. The storyline in this book is so clever and original - and the ending was one that I did not see coming until close to the end. The main characters are very likeable and easy to feel for.

Megan survived a fire that took everything from her. She is deeply scarred and is having vivid nightmares. When those nightmares move from the fire that killed her partner to dreams of strangers being killed she starts to seek more therapy. The dreams feel so real and clear to hear. But those dreams start to feel like premonitions when those strangers start to be killed - in the same way as she dreamt.

Then there is Jake - DS Jake Knight. His marriage is falling apart and he is now on disciplinary leave at work after an operation goes bad. When he meets Megan he does not believe what she is telling him. And then she dreams about him....

Thanks to Stephen Edger and the TBC Reviewers group on Facebook for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

DÉJÀ VU is a Psychological/Crime Thriller by bestselling author Stephen Edger. Having enjoyed the Kate Matthews series, I was looking forward to reading this novel. This book is a real winner, and one that I believe will be well received and appeal to a wide audience.

The novel opens with DS Jake Knight and his protégé, DC Annie Lockwood at a hostage scene where a barrel of a gun by hostage taker, Logan McGregor is pressed against his business partner/girlfriend’s forehead. They had an arrest warrant for Logan McGregor into his activities. Annie had been fast-tracked into CID, considered a detective with much potential, drafted into the Major Investigation Team.

The suspect runs and Annie chases him, but when the suspect violently attacks Annie, Jake intervenes to save her life.

The novel then switches to another scene. Megan Hopkirk woke up with all the signs of a house fire in process. She had to get out of the burning room and flee to safety. But she remained frozen to the spot. Megan had suffered a major trauma where she was burned in a house fire, lost her partner, Rob, and now lives in a wheelchair.

Megan is still haunted by her dreams, and dreams about that night, every night. She had been in therapy for the last ten weeks, and is seeing a therapist, Dr Patel, a psychiatrist specializing in Psychosis and trauma. But now Megan Hopkirk is having nightmares of strangers being killed. The dreams are so vivid that she almost believes them to be real. When those same strangers start dying, she doesn’t want to believe that her subconscious is predicting their deaths. Desperate to prevent further loss of life, she reports her dreams to the police.

DS Jake Knight is facing a disciplinary hearing following a dangerous operation that left a colleague in hospital. He has been assigned to Megan's case, but doesn’t give it much effort. But when her predictions come true, he starts to believe there is something more here. Megan has a dream where Jake is the next victim.

Megan witnesses three deaths in her dreams and is somehow connected to each death scene. Is she the next victim or the perpetrator?

How are the victim’s in Megan’s dreams connected?

Déjà Vu is a gripping fast-paced psychological thriller that had me hooked right from the beginning. Believable characters with an intriguing plot and a satisfying ending.

Many thanks to the author and THE Book Club Reviewer Group (FB) for my digital copy.

This was barely an okay book for me. I considered stopping at 30% and again at 50%. The only thing that kept me going was waiting for the déjà vu aspect, as indicated in the title. And therein lies the problem.

Déjà vu is the feeling that you’ve previously experienced your current situation. There is none of that in this book. What the female main character is experiencing are dreams that are premonitions that come true.

What a book! What a clever book!! What a wickedly clever book, well crafted, strategic, and oh so thrilling!! It was as if the author knew that after reading so many police procedurals, I needed a book which would produce a zing in me, a rush of adrenaline.

My first book by author Stephen Edger, and definitely won't be the last, in fact, I crave all his books now. The story started insidiously telling me about the 2 main characters Megan who had survived a house fire but lost her partner, and cop Jake who was on disciplinary leave but was soon reinstated in a different department.

The story continued parallel to each other with the author adding in more details to Megan's nightmare where it no longer was restricted to fire but went on to becoming visions. Deja-vu. Jake was assigned to the various suicides happening across towns. Till Jake decided to trust her visions... Now he was going to be the victim. Could he save himself?

The author's writing was smooth, I savored each word written. Each layer added brought a tiny bubble of effervescence with a snap of adrenaline, this tiny flicker of excitement added to the thrill of the story.

The author knew exactly how to lure a reader in. I loved Jake, he was strong, vulnerable at moments, passionate at others, and mostly fair to everyone with a deep rooted sense of justice. Oh, how much I fan-girled him!! I frankly need more of him. But it was to Megan that my emotions were connected to. The things she went through... Each was horrifying.

The story became a race against time which brought it to a finish so unexpected that I couldn't sit still while reading it. This was one stupendous thriller which masked as a police procedural. Excitement frizzled in me, increasing with every tap on my kindle, barely giving me the patience to read every page. I wanted to get to the end sooo badly. Whew! What a book!

Could you tell how much I enjoyed the book?

Absorbing thriller with relatable detective

You know when a book works its spell if you don’t notice time passing. This occupied me for a long train journey, making the time fly. I loved the interwoven stories of Megan, trauma survivor, and dad/detective Jake. It was good to see a male figure in a thriller struggling with parent responsibilities while solving crime - made me both root for and believe in him. The plot remains suspended all the way to the end until you see how the pieces fall (so no sneaking a peek at the end). Give it a read!

I received a copy of this book from TBC Reviewers request- Thank you
I loved this book, the characters, the story line everything was just ‘WOW’
Genuinely a cracking read, as a reader you’re ready to dismiss Megan’s predictions as either a lucky guess or total made up- once you manage to get past these choices then it opens so many more doors and thought process’s
A brilliant read and I will definitely be looking out for Stephen’s back catalogue!

This book captivated me right from its explosive start, literally, leading to Jake’s suspension and his colleague in hospital. Jake Knight is a character you can’t help but root for. He may do things the wrong way but his intentions are good and he’s all heart. Add this to poor Megan who has survived a house fire that killed her partner you have two strong compelling characters.

Their stories blend nicely as he is assigned to the apparent suicides that Megan has seen in her visions. Then to discover he is in one of her visions it’s a race against time and the clock is ticking. Deja vu is both a police procedure and high octane thriller so you get two for the price of one!

With a nice fast pace, tightly woven plot, sharp writing and wonderfully likeable characters this is a great read and I challenge any of you after reading this not to have a crush on Jake.

I've just read this book in a day as couldn't put it down, I was drawn in from page one to Jake , his character was strong yet vulnerable, he played by the book but had a few lapses that made him more human and likeable, I loved his relationship with his daughter. As well as getting to know Jake as he's led to investigate a number of seemingly straight forward suicides, we meet Megan early on who is wheelchair bound following a house fire in which she lost her husband. Megan starts to have very vivid dreams which turn out true involving the suicide victims, but was it really suicide. Jake isn't quite sure what to make of Megan's revelations, is there any truth in her predicting the future or is something else happening!! A gripping read from start to finish

Enjoyed this, but did have to suspend my disbelief for the duration and you’ll see why. This did not deter from my desire to read on. An interesting set of characters and quite a refreshing plot line, which is never easy to do.

The main character was a little irksome, but I think that was the point. Trauma can have a habit of stealing your very essence and leave a mere husk. That’s what happens to our protagonist. Nothing seems to go her way. She rolls (excuse the pun) from one disaster to another. Misery follows her around and each time she tries to escape it with one attempt after another. Can Jake (the hot headed detective) save the day...

I like Mr Edger’s books and this one doesn’t disappoint.

Having read this author I knew I was in for a rollcoatser! A unputdownable book that you either fully fall into or doubt all the way through! How is Megan predicting deaths in her dreams? Is this supernatural or an answer closer to home. The pages will turn fast in your need to find out

An absolutely fantastic read with some great characters. I had no clue as to who it was. I even thought Megan was involved somehow. Very cleverly written. Although I was right on one of the aspects in the case but I wont say. You will have to read it yourself if you want to find out. 5*. Highly recommended.

I read a lot of detective/crime novels and as with all of them I had the murderer pegged within the first couple of chapters...except once again I didn't (note to self: I would be a lousy real life detective- never join the force!).
This is a tale of 2 parts really, with crimes going on left right and centre but Maggie sitting in the middle suffering survivors guilt, physical and mental pain and struggling to determine the real from the dreamed.
Maggie truly tugs at the heart strings, from her tragic backstory to her current struggles with daily life and her bizarre nightmares that seem physic in nature she is never quite on an even keel and lacks much in the way of real support around her other than her boyfriends sister Wanda, pushy, intrusive but well meaning.
Meanwhile Maggie's nightmares become a reality for the people she dreams about with Maggie being the only link and therefore the prime suspect.
Fantastically twisty with a very slow and clever reveal of the truth, the motive and the perpetrator this one will keep you reading well past midnight.
A joy of a new author discovery for me, especially on discovering the huge number of books by Mr Edger that I can now add to my "to be read" pile !

Different to the general norm of psychological thrillers I read. DS Jake Knight is a likeable character, he has a wife, a young daughter and a difficult job.
He takes on a case involving a lady called Megan who seems to be having nightmares predicting the future but he's not sure he believes her until circumstances show him otherwise.

An enjoyable book about a very sad subject. Trauma, it leaves the question can you trust anybody, even yourself. You feel sorry for Megan and wish she could help herself more. Thank you to TBC for my review copy, which kept me sane while in hospital.

A fantastic, incredibly well thought out, plot which held me captivated from start to finish.
This had lots of elements that I truly love, a hint at the mysterious and supernatural/ psychic, gruesome murders and a healthy dose of mystery and whodunnit.
I loved the main characters, both the victims with their backstories and also the detectives with their own personal lives and struggles.
Our main focus character is dreaming and seeing major peril and death in her dreams before the event occurs. She does not know how this is happening or what to do with the information, plus she starts to fear for her own safety and innocence in the matters. She has suffered major trauma herself as she lost her soul mate in dreadful circumstances and her psychiatrist suggests she starts to keep a dream diary.
Honestly this was a fast paced rollercoaster of a story with drip fed information on the secrets which were eventually revealed. I absolutely loved it and would happily recommend.

Waw! Absolutely blessed to stumble upon this. Such a fast read even though i took my time devouring those pages!

I loved the way the story has built up, from small crimes to the big picture at the end. It's incredible the journey Megan had to go through, death and grief are both a subject i like finding in my reads. Also the sharp mind of Jake and how he worked on solving the crimes, the way everything felt fuxked up in his life, yet finding passion in his job, giving chances to new ideas, to new people. and the message that it's never easy for anyone to walk through life with all the shit it gives you. So many ugly yet necessary subjects are featured in this book that made me more aware of how serious some things might not seem, until you try a different angle.
I totally recommend.

This is the first time I’ve read a book by Stephen Edger and I’d definitely read another. Future Echoes flits between two main characters each chapter and is captivating with their back story. They’re both likeable and there is enough going on to keep you interested and wanting to know what’s going to happen next. I didn’t guess it til right at the end, so that was a nice surprise!
I’d recommend this book, it was an enjoyable read.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book via The Book Club Reviewers Group on Facebook. The main character, DS Jake Knight, is the type of person who seems to believe the means justifies the end. His higher ups don't agree with that philosophy when it puts others in danger yet they put him on another case and continue to let him mentor DC Annie Lockwood. The characters are well written and fit perfectly into the action packed and twisted plot.
