I don't normally read YA books, but I loved Kim's Giants of the Frost and reckoned I couldn't go wrong when I saw her name on this book. I was right - I simply couldn't put Fireheart down! It is a story about a nearly-16-year-old girl who appears to have a quite ordinary life - until we find out she has psychic abilities. Upon touching an object, she can read flashes of its owner's history. Enter a gorgeous madman who lives next door and an ancient Egyptian treasure with a horrific past, and I was dragged into a whirlwind adventure I didn't want to leave until the last page. Bring on the next Kim Wilkins story!

Gina Champion, teenage physic, who gets the part time job of her dreams, or does she? She starts working at a visiting Egyptian Exhibition hoping to get her hands on one of the artefacts, when she does, the result is very scary and dangerous. She finds herself caught up in an ancient curse that haunts her new and very cute but totally insane neighbour Damien Priest. Meanwhile, she discovers the reason her boss is being a total grouch. Her best friends are falling out over a Japanese exchange student, that is very confusing, then she gets fired. Can it get any crazier than that? Well yes.

The exhibit she touched called ‘The Heart of Ryhotep’ begins to haunt her as it has Damian Priest. She has to find out the secret behind the ancient curse to save them both. She takes advantage of her physic abilities to solve the mystery.

Kim Wilkins brings to life the daily trials of this feisty teenage character. Gina is likable and realistic, as are all of the characters this enchanting author creates. The very first paragraph, inserted below, is gripping and will hook anyone especially the young adult market she is targeting, looking for a good mystery.

'The first thing I noticed about Damien Priest was how desperately cute he was. The second thing I noticed was that he was a total lunatic. Allow me to explain.'
