Biography

I love cats. I love their beautiful faces and ickle tickly tums. I have been owned by many cats, but now only a visiting ginger tom declares possession of me. I don't read my books to him, because he's into mice and sardines in tomato sauce, not spooks and crooks and flukes of nature, or even unnature such as the mighty Gargoyle or the dreadful creeping creature which is Something Watching. My proudest book, of course, is Why Weeps the Brogan? Which won the Children's Whitbread in 1989 and was shortlisted for the McVitie Prize. The Haunted Sand was shortlisted for something, but I can't remember what; it came second to a book that wasn't too bad, I suppose. I love good English; I can't stand sloppy modern drip-speak innit? wot books 'ave as written language, and which supposedly reflects the way kids spea. I don't mind a bit of rebellion in language, but dumb brainless Me am de man is pure stupidity and totally rebarbative in a language which has hundreds of thousands of words which cretins are too lazy to look up and use with clarity and power. To all the worm-brains who think bad spelling, ignorance and foul words make them better than other people, I say buy a dictionary.

Este libro era de mis favoritos y lo leí como 4 veces en la primaria, volverlo a leer me hizo recordar porqué me gustaba tanto.
Hoy no le doy las 5 estrellas porque es para niños y no me parece un libro extraordinario, pero se merece las 4 porque no deja de ser una historia envolvente y llena de suspenso.
Lo recomiendo para entretenerse, sin importar la edad que tengan.

"The walking-Stick of box-pew "

such a stunning story narrated in a fine way in which the writer takes the attention to a family arriving to a small hotel called Raven Crag from which the story takes its tall to the mysteriously lived setting, until the Ghosts broke loose for vendetta .

Hasta hace poco tiempo me había declarado fan de la literatura infantil, pero no sé cual es mi problema, ya que últimamente me cuesta seguir su lectura.

El inicio de la historia es muy intrigante, logra sembrar la semilla del miedo, sin embargo el desarrollo de la trama me aburrió bastante. En este te presentan a los personajes con sus características más representativas junto al conflicto central de la trama. Si logras pasar esta parte de la historia, te aseguro que el final te va a encantar.

La verdad, voy a atribuir mi aburrimiento a la edad.

38. Un libro que leíste hace más de 10 años

Una belleza de libro. Volviendolo a leer siendo adulta, me resultó muy rápido de leer pero como siempre, tétrico. La historia de terror en sí, es muy buena y el toque infantil (porque a final de cuentas es el público objetivo) le da un no sé qué muy refrescante y divertido. Extrañaba mucho este libro.

Hay unas partes medio flojitas, o donde más se desarrolla la historia de la familia en sus vacaciones. Los verdaderos sustos sobrenaturales son casi al final, y son pocos, pero se agradecen que no sean tan aterradores para los pequeños. Las ilustraciones están geniales y ayudan mucho a ambientar la historia. Recomendable.

Libro que me abrió paso a los textos de terror y que sin duda recomiendo; pese a ser corto y rápido de leer, es capaz de crear incertidumbre al lector gracias a los escenarios en los que te transporta, el relato de un chico sobre las vacaciones sombrías con su familia.

El libro fue una gran decepción.
Se me hizo muy pesado a pesar de ser corto ya que, en primer lugar, las partes que se supone deberían ser el clímax no despertaron nada mi interés, no hubo nada de suspense. En segundo lugar comentarios como "se veía muy guapa para ser una mamá" no venían ni al caso y me hizo preguntarme ¿los niños creen que las mamás son feas? Además no tenía nada de coherencia el actuar de los personajes, ya que en una situación así no creo que ningún adulto deje fácilmente solos a dos niños cuando están en peligro. Por último, cuando se resuelve quién es el anciano de traje café y qué pasó en el lugar así como la resolución del caso me dio igual por lo simple que fue.
Lo terminé porque es corto pero no lo recomiendo.

Me encantó! Lo busqué por años ya que lo había leído en la secundaria, una historia de terror que le pasa a una familia, juntos tratan de enfrentarlo y resolver el misterio. Es fácil de leer y muy entretenida. El amor de la familia lo puede todo.
