Stiff Little Fingers emerged in the mid-1970s and gave disaffected youth in Belfast a voice to the troubles that were tearing the province apart. The most successful punk band ever to leave Belfast, they tore up the rulebook of how a band was "supposed" to get a record deal and achieve chart success. Stiff Little Fingers singer-songwriter Jake Burns gives the whole story behind this barrier-busting, record-breaking band. This book includes photographs, a full U.K. and U.S. discography.
A very pleasurable read for me, a long time fan of SLF. This takes the form of an interview with Jake Burns, the frontman of the Stiffs, by another long time fan, Alan Parker. It covers the first 25 years of SLF. Published in 2003, alongside a compilation album with the same title.
They look together at all the songs from the albums up to and including 2003. Interesting, informative and enjoyable. It includes all the comings and goings within the band, the context of the songs as they were being written and much, much more. I could relate to both Jake and Alan. I shan’t be parting with this one in a hurry!
