Definitely don’t agree to a temporary fling.

I’m stuck working with Ashley Williams when I'm forced to help my mom’s catering company for the holidays.

Ashley’s a firecracker, and I always love getting under her skin...but now I want her skin against mine. I want to bite that forbidden lip she’s always giving me.

She wants me too but she’s been burned before and says we're only hooking up until the new year.

This fling may have a deadline, but now that we're rolling around in the snow—I can't just walk away.

A.J. Ranney lives in Maryland with her ever-growing zoo, including two kids, two cats, an attention loving dog, a bunny, a cricket eating lizard and her lovable well-meaning husband. She likes to leave the chaos of her real world behind and lose herself in a steamy romance novel. Her passion for reading romance prompted her writing journey, leading her to create relatable happily ever afters that come from her own dreams and experiences. She loves coffee, sushi, wine, and her family. Not necessarily in that order. Her inner peace comes from the water, always relating to her zodiac sign the Pisces. It’s no wonder the small town she created in her stories is situated on a lake.

Who knew that the constant sparring between Jackson and Ashley was fueled by a whole lot of spicy chemistry?

When they finally give in to the pull of their banter, and turn from enemies to lovers with a casual hookup, it all gets very messy as feeling get involved.

Impossibly Yours is a very fun, very spicy best friend’s sister/brother’s best friend romance with scorching chemistry. I recommend.

Can I start by saying I’m now a firm believer that every author deserves a second chance. I wasn’t absolutely sold on Bella and Rhett’s story (the first in the series) but I am SO glad I revisited Half Moon Lake.

There is a trope for almost anyone in this novel and they all co-exist in the most wonderful way. Here’s a sample of what you’ll find:

*Best friend’s sister
*Small-town
*Enemies to lovers
*Workplace romance
*Forced proximity
*Just one time 😉

The FMC might be wound a little too tight but the MMC is thoughtful and patient and a hundred other things that have me questioning if I can even fault him. Jackson is most definitely book boyfriend material.

If I’m honest, I’ve been hovering between 4.5 and 5 stars and thinking I should know if it’s a 5 star read, right? So for now, 💛💛💛💛💔 but I do reserve my right to re-read and change at a later date.

lots of heat and banter

Ashley and Jackson have known each other for years. He is her brothers best friend. They have always managed to annoy each other in the past. She thinks he is an irresponsible playboy and he thinks she is a pest. When they need to spend time together at his mum’s business they start to see different sides to each other. Even although they still bicker constantly, there is a growing heat between them that neither of them can ignore. They agree to a short fling, but things become so much more. Ashley sees Jackson is really a caring, loving, thoughtful and responsible man. Jackson sees how much Ashley does for everyone else and how talented and under appreciated she is by those around her. The more time they spend together the more they want, but they are both too scared to cross the line from hook up to relationship, even although they have really been in one all along. I loved the heat level 🔥🔥🔥. I loved how connected both their families were and we got to see previous couples and a little hint of who is to come next.

I received a copy of this book as part of the ARC team. I had never read anything else by A.J. Ranney before.

This book was the perfect cozy start to December. While there are spice scenes, it is nothing 'crazy'. I would say its a one or two on the spicy scale for me. Tropes included are best friends sister/brothers best friend, enemies to lovers, small town romance.

I don't want to give anything away but I would highly recommend to all of my friends looking for a contemporary romance read for winter break!

Impossibly Yours is a best friend's little sister, antagonists to lovers romance and second in the author's Half Moon Lake series. (It also happens at least partly in concurrence with the related novella from the series, Wishing to be Yours, so if you've read that one you'll hear about some familiar plot points, but if you haven't yet you'll be fine too.) It's a cute story with I-can't-stand-him-oops-we're-kissing vibes, and the holiday/winter setting can't be beat this time of year.

I liked both Ashley and Jackson as characters, though miscommunication/lack of communication was their biggest issue--and they knew it--and it was a bit frustrating at times. I also didn't quite feel like I had a complete handle on who Ashley and Jackson were as individuals (Jackson's job, for example, was a little fuzzy--he made investments, I guess? And they mostly paid off well? But there was also music in there somewhere...?) which might have been because they were introduced more thoroughly in the first book, or maybe it was just me. I haven't read the first book in the series yet (Always Yours), and though this did work fairly well as a standalone, it's possible I would have had a better handle on their characters if I'd read that one first. This book certainly has glowing reviews, so it absolutely could just be me. It's one of those I liked it, but... books, so your mileage may absolutely vary! Overall it's a short and sexy read with a holiday setting, so it's honestly hard to go too wrong here.

Rating: 3 1/2 stars / B

For a moment I wished things were different. That we weren't who we were.

Impossibly Yours is the second book in the Half Moon Lake series by A.J. Ranney. It follows Always Yours, a best friend's brother, small town, second chance romance; meanwhile, Impossibly Yours is a best friend's sister, enemies to lovers romance.

We meet our main characters, Ashley and Jackson, in Always Yours. Ashley is Jackson's best friend, Rhett's sister. Jackson and Ashley are oblivious to the other's feelings.

You know how the saying goes, boys tease girls they like. People love what they can't have—the forbidden fruit. One would covet something they don't have because everything they do have is never enough.

Temporary flings only sometimes work out. Something always happens that would change the circumstances/relationship. Emotions are messy. Having a deadline for a fling may seem wise at first, with each person knowing all the rules upfront. But life doesn't go as planned; things can change.

I don't know what it is, but I wasn't too fond of Ashley. It could be because I could see a lot of myself in her, the parts I don't like about myself. So it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black. And yet I loved Jackson. Even then, I could still recognize some of his faults. Jackson and Ashley separately may be a mess, but they work together and complement one another.

I honestly didn't think I would cry, but I started shedding some tears toward the end.

A.J. Ranney doesn't write perfect characters. They have flaws that are clear as day, which makes them realistic and relatable. If you can see a piece of you in a character, you're more likely to be hooked on the story. Or at least that's true from my experience.

I want to read more about Ashley's sisters, and I wish they have their own stories at some point.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)

Brother's bestfriend/Best friend's little sister mixed with some Forced proximity, Workplace romance and a while lot of secret friends with benefits. Make for a read full of steam and angst!

Back in Half Moon Lake for Book 2 with Jackson & Ashley! This one is full of attraction and tension!! You have these two characters that tell themselves that the other is off limits because of Rhett. But they are forced together when Jackson's mom who is also Ashley's boss has to take some time off. They piss each other off, and are constantly pushing each others buttons. The have this love/hate relationship where most of the time they can't stand eachother. Until something shifts. There is this pull and connection that is so strong. Neither one of them can deny. Until they let it bubble over into a complicated secret friends with benefits where feelings are added and Holy smokes am I here for it all!! Yes please!!

I absolutely loved Jackson & Ashley! I wont lie at times i was super frustrated. I wanted Ashley to take Jackson more seriously and actually hear what he was saying. And i also want Jackson to take that leap of faith and dive all in and tell her how he felt! But I def understand that it's not always easy to give yourself tonanother fully especially when you've been burned in the past, coupled with having alot stacked on your current plate! You have these two strong, independent characters who hide themselves away but have the biggest hearts, so much compassion and so much to give.

AJ is seriously becoming one of my favorites!! Im so happy to be a part of her team! And I can not wait to see what's next! 🤍

✨Impossibly Yours by A.J. Ranney✨
Half Moon Lake - book two

❤️Happy Release Day❤️

-Small town Romance
-Enemies to Lovers
-Forced proximity
-Brothers best friend
——————
There’s only one rule; Never fall for your best friend’s sister.
——————

This book gave me all the happy feels ❤️ and included so many different things that I personally love, which made me feel so connected with the characters.

Ashley and Jackson are like kids in the schoolyard hiding their feelings with silly remarks and mean jabs.
Yet you can tell with a little push they’d be head over heels for one another..

Ashley is a strong FMC - her last relationship let her down in a big way and she decides that love just isn’t worth the trouble. She never expected to fall for her brothers best friend, Jackson - the rich playboy. Surprise surprise she had him all wrong.. he wanted to become more and I’m happy he showed that side to her.

Jackson could possibly be ever woman’s dream guy!
Can cook - ✅
A mamas boy - ✅
Generous in the bedroom - ✅
💰💰 - ✅
Wanting to adopt a child who needs a stable home - ✅
The list goes on and on but I was obsessed with him from the beginning!

I loved watching them fall for each other over time.. it was written flawlessly! The steam was on point and the conflict between characters was kept to a minimum. I couldn’t recommended this book more if you are looking for a holiday small town romance!

My next read by A.J. Ranney will be her novella ‘Wishing to be Yours’ - I’m sure Brittney and her new boss are doing well 😏

Having to work with one person that is off limits and both parties drive each other over the edge is just what Impossibly Yours is all about. Ms. Ranney delivers a light-hearted small-town romance that is full of laughs, banter and heated exchanges. They secretly have a thing for one another but the love-hate relationship is in the way. Oh yes as well as she is his best friend's sister so there is no way that line will be crossed. Or will it?

Jackson and Ashley have known one another for years. Are they friends? Definitely not but there is something pulling them together. Not only are they expected to work together but get along in the process. Will this close proximity cause sparks to ignite and explode? Will their agreement still expire after the holidays or will things change? They have a connection that cannot be ignored. The sexual tension between the two of them is off the charts. Talk about two people that cannot stand one another setting the place on fire when they get together.

Impossibly Yours is one holiday book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The storyline was fantastic and the characters, both main and secondary were relatable and had me wanting to be part of their small town. I recommend adding Impossibly Yours to your TBR list or even ask for it for Christmas.

Impossibly Yours can be read as standalone but I recommend starting with Always Yours to get background on the characters.

This book has a lot of my favorite tropes and I am a sucker for the “he falls first” aggressive forbidden love stories.

Picture this✨emo0o0OoOtional girl trying not to get attached while fighting a battle with herself and frustratedly sputtering “you can’t fall in love with me” and then gripping the boy by the collar of his shirt and pulling him in for a searing kiss✨

That’s how this book felt. Phew 🥵 so steamy. Both characters are stubborn, and messy, with a good balance of humor and emotion. Ashley might be just the right person to get playboy Jackson to finally settle down.

I hope this series continues because ____ really does a great job writing stories with emotional depth, balanced conflict, and happy endings.

After reading AJ Ranney’s debut novel, Always Yours, I was waiting not so patiently for Ashley and Jackson’s story. And Ranney did not disappoint. Combining brother’s best friend, enemies to lovers, secret romance, and workplace romance into one big ball of angsty heat, Ranney does the fiery Ashley and cocky Jackson right in Impossibly Yours.

Perfect pacing, serious steam, and fierce energy propel the plot forward, bringing readers along for an angsty ride that kept me turning pages long past my bedtime. Ranney does a fantastic job of elevating the couples’ personal and professional relationship while developing characters readers will relate to and respond to. Well placed supporting characters help build the story, providing great insight into the main characters’ motives and inspirations, which are much deeper than either character imagined in the other.

Impossibly Yours is a perfect follow-up to Always Yours, but can be read as a standalone. However, readers will appreciate it even more within the context of the series, as glimpses of Ashley and Jackson in book one will make their HEA even more validating.

What a wonderful second book to the Half Moon Lake series. Ashley and Jackson are the perfect enemies to lovers. Following up from Rhett and Bella was bound to be difficult, but author A.J. Ranney did just that in the best possible way.

Jackson lives a life that others view as careless, reckless, and is a full playboy. The truth is, no one truly knows him. They don’t know the soft pieces of him that cares for others, especially a little girl who holds his heart. No one gets to see that side of him…until he’s forced to work with his best friends little sister who he loathes.

Ashley is just trying to move on in life. Her heart was broken once upon a time, her dreams were all but shattered, and soon she’ll be stuck working with the one person she can’t stand for who knows how long! Her walls are up, and she won’t let them down…not even to her closest friends.

People can’t be enemies forever though, right? What would it take for Ashley to see the real Jackson? What would it take for Jackson to crash through Ashley’s walls? These two are exactly what each other needs, but is that enough?

Tropes:

Enemies to Lovers
Brothers Best Friend
Small Town Romance

Dual POV

Give me a brother's best friend trope any day of the week! This is easily becoming one of my favorite tropes. This book did not disappoint!

Ashley hates Jackson and his playboy ways. But when Jackson's mom needs back surgery, he steps up to help run her catering company, which Ashely also works at. Can they work together or will it end up as a disaster?

Let me say, the tension in this book is off the damn charts! The angst, the banter, the sass, it's all perfection. I loved how both Jackson and Ashley always had the perfect comebacks for each other.

I also liked how Ashley wanted to be her own person. She didn't want anything handed to her. She didn't want anything fancy and tried to argue with Jackson when he took her to a nice restaurant.

As always, A.J.'s writing is amazing and holds your attention. She writes characters that are relatable. They have flaws, they have insecurities, and they have fears. I love that.

Thank you A.J. for this ARC!

Sweet, Sexy, Stubborn lovers.

I received Impossibly Yours as an ARC and It hit all my romance needs. Enemies to lovers, stubborn strong female lead, and a misinterpreted playboy. A.J. Ranney develops her small-town romance seamlessly and makes you fall in love with her characters. The whitty back and forth between Jackson and Ashley was to die for and will have you rooting for them to come together. I’m not one to give away spoilers, so I will say, the tension she builds between her characters and their families was palpable and the ‘intended’ casual relationship explodes off the pages. You won’t be disappointed!
Ashley is relatable, sassy, and I love that SHE is the one to initiate the relationship. Jackson is drop-dead sexy but sweet and attentive. His millionaire playboy status is misinterpreted by his small-town, but he doesn’t care what others think. He does and says what he wants, and when he connects with Ashley he opens a part of himself that only few see.
This is a must read romance that will make you swoon, laugh, cry, and just love love.

If I didn’t love Rhett from the beginning in the first book….I oddly loved Jackson and didn’t love Ashley in the beginning of this one.

I felt like she very unfairly judged Jackson based on the small town gossip mill over her actual interactions with him. We do get the chance to learn that she had a really 💩 Ex that gave her the opposite of rose tinted glasses when it came to “financially well off guys.”

I’m glad Jackson was able to break down her walls. What started as snarky banter quickly turned into some very intense chemistry between them. Add in Jackson’s amazing heart & a sweet little girl names Sophia and there was no way Ashley could resist him for very long.

I know this one is a brother's best friend/best friend's little sister book, but honestly I felt like Rhett didn't have as much of an impact in their relationship as he could have after all his issues in his own book. I think I actually really liked that because other than a few moments Ashley and Jackson really got to shine on their own.

2 Williams siblings down….3 more to go!!!

Sometimes we can feel like we know a person based on their actions and our interactions with them, only to find that they weren’t who we thought they were at all. Ashley viewed Jackson as an irresponsible and immature playboy while he thought Ashley was a stubborn spoiled brat. Forced to work together, the two slowly find that there’s more to the other than originally thought and the two eventually give into the attraction they both deny is there.

One of my favorite things about this series is that overall it has a lighthearted feel to it but also delves into deeper topics that give the characters a more realistic feel to them. Jackson and Ashley had prior issues that they brought into their relationship. This made the road a little rocky at times but I enjoyed seeing the two work through them, let their walls down, and feel comfortable enough to be themselves around the other person.

🍨 Small town Romance
🍨 Swoon-worthy
🍧 Smutty
🍨 & Best Friend’s Sister
🍨 Enemies to lovers

“There’s only one rule; Never fall for your best friend’s sister”

This smutty and swoon worthy romance is certain to enthral your heart and mind. Rhett and Bella are getting married. Jackson is Rhett’s best friend while Ashley is Rhett’s sister. The most difficult thing for Jackson and Ashley is to work together because they both are stubborn and likes to do things their way. While they both have passion for food and they both needs healing. One had to deal with manipulating ex so the other one has been in a meaningless relationships.

As soon as they cross path, their personal issues with each other kept them apart yet the realisation was bigger than the issues they had. And they got entangled in an emotionally fulfilling bond that was a secret to everyone else. And I really enjoyed their conversations.

In a small towns it’s probably a good thing that you don’t get along with your best friend’s sister. It’s safer that way; you don’t develop feeling while you are forced to work together. Well at that least was the plan.

I love the playful, witty banter between Ashley and Jackson. Their tension is epic which only makes their passion hotter. They are both lovable, stubborn, passionate, & deep characters and will keep you turning pages.

Ashley is Jackson’s best friend’s sister; clearly she is off limits. And she views Jackson as an irresponsible playboy; she wouldn’t develop feelings towards him. They drive each other crazy. Additionally they both have been hurt in the past and don’t want a relationship. They can work together and keep things casual. (Their relationship might be casual but the spice in the book is still hot.) But what would happen if feelings did get involved? Would the admit them and take a chance?

Thank you A.J. for the advance copy and the opportunity to review.

A fine line between love and hate.
The banter. The hidden feelings. The secret lives. The families. All combined, it makes the sparks fly. In the case of Impossibly Yours, things feel like they are reversed from the usual romance novel. Sure, Jackson seems to have fallen first. But I also feel that in a way he is too good for her. He's got secrets which are swoon worthy, yet nobody knows about them until he finally lets Ashley see them. Her eyes are opened, but she's afraid. She's enjoying where things are between them, and the sex is hot, so why mess with a good thing by adding feelings. But that's the thing about feelings-they have a way of sneaking up on you when you least expect it. Ashley is blindsided by them and lashes out. Now it's her turn to make the grand gesture and open her heart to Jackson before she loses him forever.
Such a good enemies to lovers, brother's best friend novel. I look forward to more from AJ Ranney.

I am LOVING AJ Ranney's Half Moon Lake series!!! The heat between Ashley and Jackson could melt a glacier. These two characters were both equally stubborn and loveable. Both had some deep emotional issues to conquer, and both realized there was more to each other than they thought. Jackson, who Ashley assumes is a playboy, is really a soft hearted man that's been burned badly in previous relationships. He actually has alot of love to give. Ashley has always seemed uptight, snarky, and rigid. When she lets a few walls down, Jackson really sees a vulnerability to her that she never let's show. They both have a passion for food, but their passion for each other is way more than they could even imagine. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series, and I just love the way AJ Ranney writes characters that you can so easily fall for.

Jackson is also a character who is full of surprises. Ashley has such steadfast opinions on who Jackson is as a person & I loved seeing her discover who he really is. These two had such a great story and I loved every minute of it.

My Review 💋💋💋💋💋

Lordy Jackson & Ashley know how to bring the heat. I loved this book so much. The push and pull they have is such a great dynamic.

Jackson is the town playboy or so that’s what everyone thinks. Very few get to see what he really does and that’s he gives back so much. I loved seeing that side of him.

Ashley is loud and controlling and knows what she wants. I love that she’s tells how she feels, because it took a while to be sure of herself. Yet when it comes to Jackson she wants him but only for a little bit not for forever or so that’s what she thought.

These two are Fire and Ice which as a reader I loved. When they finally show there true self to one another and admit that the “arrangement” could be what they have always been looking for.

Definitely a must read in the enemies to lover small town romance. An I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.

Oh, this book!! I quite literally couldn’t put this one down-reading during my off times at work and staying up late at night! Jackson and Ashley…Wow! The tension and banter between them is so well written-you can feel it radiating from the pages! The characters in this book are wonderfully developed. You can’t help but love them and feel like part of their world. Jackson…YES! Sign me up! I love a good “he falls first” trope and really enjoy dual POVs! I found myself swooning pretty hard for him and wanting to read more with him and his story. If you are a fan of HEA, spice with your Hallmark-ish stories, enemies to lovers, and truly just a good old fashioned “make you feel good” story, this is one for you! I can’t wait to read the next one about the next sibling!

Jackson and Ashley can’t stand each other. When they are forced to work together it’s a disaster waiting to happen. The banter is hilarious and made me just want to shake them to give into the underlying chemistry between them.

Jackson is hiding a huge part of who he is and I love when Ashley starts to figure that out. Once they finally put their differences aside and come together it’s perfect! They have more in common than either of them ever would have realized if not forced to work together. I absolutely loved them together!

I love when a book has good chemistry and steam but a great storyline as well. Impossibly yours definitely checks all those boxes. This is the second book the Half Moon Lake Series and I can’t wait for more!

Ashley is struggling to believe in herself and love after a past relationship. Jackson is her brother's best friend with a penchant for "flavors of the month" and drives her crazy. His mom is her boss and he ends up covering while his mom recovers from a surgery. The rivals-to-colleagues and eventually friends with benefits-to-lovers journey these two go on is a wild ride. Ashley learns there is so much more to Jackson than she ever believed and Jackson acknowledges that he has been more than infatuated with his best friend's little sister for years. They both have hurt to grow from and family and friends that are obstacles and deeply involved in their lives, but together they find a way to be themselves and their support system grows with them.

Impossibly Yours is a Brother’s best friend, enemies to lover and small town romance part of half moon lake series. The MMC Jackson is best friends with Rhett who is the FMCs older brothers. FMC Ashley is stubborn but in a very different way than MMC Jackson. Both find love neither is looking for or expect to find with each other. Impossibly Yours is a highly recommended four star read that has slightly need for character development in the part where third act break ups would generally occur. But this character driven story supported by a strong plot doesn’t suffer from the slight stop in development for the chapter in question. AJ Ranney is worth the time of find on KU where I read the can’t put down romance in around 2 and a half hours.

This was such a fun read. A small town enemies to lovers romance and the second book in the Half Moon Lake series. I felt like this was such a perfect, short read. I enjoyed getting to know the characters. I haven’t read the first book in the series so it was my first time reading about them but I really liked the author’s writing style. I felt that the book was super engaging and I loved the chemistry and angst between Ashley and Jackson. The spice levels in this book were high so if you’re a fan of smut, you will probably enjoy this book. One of my favorite things about the book was the banter between Ashley and Jackson. Definitely recommend this read!

Brothers best friend, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, former playboy... this book has all the things. Jackson is Rhetts best friend. Ashley is Rhetts little sister and Jackson's mom is her boss. When Jackson steps in to help with his mom's business while she has surgery Ashley has to face the reality that Jackson is not the playboy millionaire that she wrote him off as. This book was so good. The growth between these characters was amazing. The banter was perfect. There was just enough interconnection to the previous book to continue their story but not overwhelm or take from Ashley and Jackson's story. All in all 5 stars and will absolutely reread!

So thankful i got an ARC copy of this book before it releases.

If you are looking for a happy romance read with a happily ever after this is the book for you!

Jackson and Ashley what a magnificent pair, in the beginning i never would have thought they would be into one another but once they had to work together and spend more time with one another they started growing closer. I loved while reading this we got to watch how there relationship involves it was everything. Jackson is such a perfect guy and is definitely an all time favorite book boyfriend now.😏
