Private Dances

Rate this book
An exotic dancer to make money for college, Dale usually stays onstage. Private dances are tricky, you never know when someone will try to take it too far. Big time player Gen makes him an offer he can't resist, though, for one dance. Just one.

One dance turns into two, and soon Dale is drawn into Gen's world, one of wealth and power that spans two continents. Can they find common ground between a backwards Texas student and playboy with more money and power than Dale can even imagine?

Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her hounds and her beloved wife, texting her grandbabies, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting, and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. Following their own personal joys, BA and Julia heard the call of the high desert and they now live in the New Mexico mountains. BA's personal saviors include her wife, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.

Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to cowboy daddies to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which is committed to giving everyone their happily ever after. With books ranging from hard-hitting BDSM, to fiery passions, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.

I like BA Tortuga’s style. Her writing is always simple. Easy. There’s really not much angst to it, but her stories are usually fast paced, romantic and very sexy. Perfect for a sweet, sexy rainy day read. Private Dances fits the bill perfectly.

Dale (Dee) has been working at the local strip club for a few months. He is working his way through college by being a stripper several times a week. Although Dale is not unhappy with his job, he is ready for the day where he can keep his clothes on for a living, and since times are hard, he doesn’t see an end in sight.

Despite his occupation, Dale isn’t one to jump into affairs with clients or anyone else for that matter. He doesn’t mess around; especially with clients. So he is extremely cautious and choosy with whom he’ll do his private dances with.

When he is approached to do a private dance for some local businessmen, he somewhat reluctantly agrees. From the moment he lays eyes on the tall dark and handsome business man, he is immediately taken with the mysterious mans power and sexiness. As Dale dances privately for them, he and sexy man have a hard time keeping their eyes off of one another. After his dances are over, Dale reluctantly leaves sexy man behind… after all it is just business.

The next night, sexy man comes and requests another private dance from Dale. Thrilled and very anxious, Dale seductively dances for the man he can’t get out of his head.

Gen is a very wealthy, successful businessman. As a world traveler he thought he had seen it all until he entered the strip club and suddenly become immediately fascinated with the cowboy stripper named Dee. But, the more he is around Dee, the more he wants to be in his life and to sweep him away from all of this, so he can have Private Dances from Dee all on his own. His obvious affection for Dee was very apparent throughout this book; from the way he treated Dee, to even his pet name for him. So sweet!

I liked the simplicity of the storyline. Boy meets boy and falls in love, despite the differences in their lifestyles and so on. Dee and Gen have a very healthy sex life also, so if you are offended by this, Private Dances will not be for you. If you are looking for a complicated and emotionally driven book, you need to KEEP LOOKING.

I loved Dee. His determination to better himself as well as be the man that Gen deserves makes him a hero that I enjoyed reading about. He and Gen were perfect for one another. Both men were able to grow and blossom from them being with own another.

I liked that it was an easy read with a fun storyline with some sexy heroes. It just doesn’t get much better than that.

How do I summarize my thoughts about this 120-page novella? There is so much sex that if I remember anything about this book a year from now, it’ll be how much the characters get in on. For a book that I should’ve been able to finish in one sitting, I kept having to take breaks because I don’t even want to watch that much porn in that length of time.

“They could talk more later, he thought while he stroked Dale’s sweaty back.”

This is hilarious because they hardly ever talk. I finished the book only having an idea of what Dale is studying in college and I still have no clue what’s making Gen’s bank account so fat. Apparently there’s an age and class difference but I never found out the specifics because the reader learns very little about these characters. Well, except for their infatuation with one another.

“Haven’t ever wanted nothin’ like I want you.”

There may not be much talking but when they do speak to each another they’re mostly expressing never having felt the way they do for anyone else. I thought it was sweet the first time but by the end it just had me rolling my eyes. There are plenty of books that start off with some type of sexual encounter but then put it on hold while we learn the main plot. I kept waiting for that to happen but this turned out to be solely about how sexually compatible Dale and Gen are because not much else happens otherwise.

A good example of this is when they decide to go sight-seeing in Italy. I thought “oh good, this is where we learn more about them and their surroundings.” Ha-ha, jokes on me because they never make it out of the bedroom.:/

Something else that bothered me was the use of one-word sentences. If you use these sparingly they can emphasize a point, but overuse creates disjointed text and disrupts the flow of the narrative. Please. Stop. Doing. This. It occurs so often that I found myself skimming over them by the end.

I thought long and hard about this book before I sat down to write my review. I think there are plenty of people who will love it if they’re looking for a quick, very hot and sexy read. If this is any indication of what BA’s other books are like then I believe she may not be the author for me.

I received an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A very discovery indeed. This is the first book I read of B.A. Tortuga. The story intrigued me, cause I have read in an newspaper that a Milan student made lap dance by night to pay his tuition, and when I found a very similar plot, I wanted to read it

In this book Dale is a young texan student who works by night in a dance club. One night an Italian businessman (oh yes, another Italian... just say it, Italians do it better!) arrive to the club and want Dale for a private dance. After this first encounter, Dale and Gen (short name for Adriano Genovese) start a relationship at distance, but together they try to make thing go well.

Dale is young and open, almost shy sometimes. He needs money but doesn't want that Gen pays for him. He likes really Gen, because Gen is a very gentleman. I can recall in Gen the typical italian male, very protective with his lover.

One thing I like very much is that, even if Gen is very jelous of Dale, he doesn't shame Dale for it: he knows that jelousy is not justify, so he tries to repress it.

And the sex scenes... very hot. In this months I read a lot of books, so to really excite me the sex scenes must be very well written... and this is the case: the sex is simple, no kinky sex, but natural and enjoyable. Very arousal.

Gen was a selfish asshat. Dee was a pushover. No relationship development. Sketchy story with lots of plot holes.

I really love when an author takes a character, puts them into an occupation that is scrutinized by society and writes that character as a strong person with morals and codes. Dale really smashes down the door on the stigma that is strippers. I had a lot of respect for Dale in this book.

Gen... So he was just okay for me. I liked how he treated Dale at first. And I'm not saying he was crappy to him or abusive later. That's not at all what I mean. He became a contradictory character. He starts out okay with Dale's profession. He's understanding and supportive. Then later he's not okay with it. His jealousy was cute at first and then it just wasn't. He was so flip floppy with his attitude and emotions. I had a hard time falling in love with him.

So much of this book was spent with these two figuring it out. They would just about grasp it and then it would slip from their fingers. When Gen and Dale were together they were on fire. Steamy, sexy, off the charts. It was the mental part of it that they were having a hard time connecting with and it sort of latched on to me and I think it affected the story too much.

It was entertaining in many parts and overly frustrating in others. It's a passionate romance and worth a read.

This was a sweet story of opposites attract. Dale doesn’t do what many of the other dancers and waiters so at the club and never goes home with a customer. When Gen comes back for a second private dance from Dale they both can’t deny their mutual attraction.

Dale and Gen both have their fears about their relationship, but continue to work on it together. The relationship begins due to Gen’s insistence of them spending time together, but Dale stands up for himself and his desire to be more of an equal. I liked both of these characters, however they didn’t seem very deep and I had a hard time connecting with them. Since both of their points of views are given I knew how each was feeling or what they were thinking, but I just had trouble feeling it.

Cover art by Anna Sikorska is wonderfully eye catching.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

Private Dances is a good read, with a surprising twist which breaks up the story very effectively. I liked the leads, although I didn't feel we really got to know them as well as I might have liked. It however made for an enjoyable read, and along with a sweet romance there was some clearly genuine passion and chemistry.

Exotic dancers have quite the reputation but, as the saying goes, not everything that glitters is gold. Perceptions and assumptions can be deceiving, and this story shows how that can be true in more than one way. The “glamorous” job of a hardworking exotic dancer and the seemingly perfect life as a wealthy businessman are not always as they seem, and both Dale and Gen need more and different things than what they have to be happy.

Dale is a college student that dances at a male club to pay his schooling and bills. He hates the private dances until he meets a sexy , rich, Italian businessman Gen.

Gen finds himself quickly addicted to the young cowboy dancer.

Private Dances is a very sexy sweet romance. Dale and Gen's romance moves quickly. There is lots and lots of graphic sex, a fun trip to Rome and a small plot twist near the end.

I just wish there had been more story and a little less sex.

If you like sexy Italian businessmen, young male dancers, and lots of steamy man-sex you will like this.

The easiest and fastest reading I had so far. Skipping rapidly all the sex scenes I had to, since they happen to have sex every two pages, I got to the end in a blur. An hour reading? Yeah maybe so, and I still do not know the characters very well, which age difference is between them or what is the dancer studying at college or why the older one is so rich for. Really, a very fast and very lame reading. Even worst than the 50 shades, and it was a difficult task that one to reach!

This was decent, but nothing that super grabbed or invested me. Moved a little quick, with not a ton of development between the two MCs or even within themselves

Cute, sweet and sexy novella. A little angst but not from the typical sources that come from a rich/poor love story. Kept me very entertained and I loved the glimpse into Italy!

This was a decent read. There was things I liked about it and things I did not really like about it. But overall it was a decent read.

I will start with what I did like. I liked that Dale was a strong minded man that even though he was a stripper he had his set of rules that he lived by and he did not give in to others even if he was offered more money for whatever the customer was asking for. He had his set of morals and he was not going to be persuaded on them. I also liked that when he did something that he wanted he went for it. When he met Gen he felt the connection between them that was more then sexual and that is why he was willing to persue things outside of the club. Dale is a strong minded individual who even though did not really enjoy being a dancer, he did it anyway. He did it to pay his way through school and to pay his way through life until he was able to graduate school. He did not let Gen bully him into quitting and I really respect that about Dale.

One of the things I did not like was Gen was fine with what Dale did as far as a job when they first met but the more they got to know each other the more Gen did not respect that Dale wanted to pay his own way. At times the jealousy that Gen felt was in my opinion over the top and a bit to passive. I felt like Gen was trying to bully Dale into doing what Gen wanted instead of what Dale needed to do for his own peace of mind.

The other thing I did not like is at some points in the book I felt like both of these men, which are extremely smart individuals and well educated said and talked like they did not have any education at all. That kind of bothered me because I felt like that was off base as to who these two men were in the book. It made it harder to read those points in the book that it happened.

Like I originally said, overall it was a decent read, but just not one of my favorites. I think there will be others that will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Private Dances by B.A. Tortuga
3 stars
M/M Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

I normally love Tortuga stories, but this one... this one fell flat for me.

Gen and Dale are a strange couple. Now, sometimes this works, but I think that this time it's just plain odd.

While Dale works as an exotica dancer, he wants to forge his own path. While he isn't exactly sure where that path will play out, he knows that he cannot and doesn't want to accept help.

Then you have Gen. He's a successful businessman who seems to have this weird fascination with Dale.

I think where I have the most difficulties is that there is really no build up, no chemistry and no heat. While I did admire how Dale wanted to make it on his own, we somehow ended up with the hint that might not have happened. It was all a little bit fuzzy.

This was an underwhelming story for me.

It started okay but, after a while, the interactions between Dale & Gen became a little tedious: there are some stories that, even if the two main characters do nothing but groping each other, still keep you hooked up and don't bore you (quite the contrary!)...this book wasn't one of those stories.

This is a sweet romance about two men who are totally different but whose chemistry is off the charts. A cowboy and an Italian businessman fall into bed and then into love. A HOT read!
