Those are the six words Fancy Shayne thinks every time when she sees the sexy rancher Maxwell Reed. Everyone thinks she took a job working at Crossstar ranch because of the paycheck, but that isn’t the truth. She was head over heels in love with the big hunky cowboy, but he only saw her as his employee. Maxwell Reed didn’t know what had gotten into him hiring the delectable Fancy Shayne to work for him. Every time her big brown eyes looked at him, it made him weak in the knees. It was hard for him to be in love with a woman who only saw him as her boss.
"The Queen of Tease" offers interracial romance stories that will leave you eager for more and turning the pages faster than you can read them. If you enjoy that, Marie's writing is perfect for you. Marie was inspired to become a writer after reading her first "racy" book as a teenager. She started writing years ago to pursue her dream and create characters who embody the idea of "Happily Ever After" for her fans.
I've been excited to read this book for over a year, since I read Dangerous Bet: Troy's Revenge. It was clear that Fancy and Maxwell had some exciting chemistry and wonderful tension building up between them in that book.
Finally, I did read this book, and I wasn't disappointed. Marie Rochelle writes scintillating interactions between her couples very well. The dialogue really furthers the storytelling, showing the fiery chemistry between Fancy and Maxwell. This book is the quintessential battle between the sexes. Fancy and Maxwell play a game of chaser versus chasee. Their dynamic reminded me of a game of chess. Each player tries to make a move that will win them the game, but protect their queen (their hearts).
Initially, Fancy was doing the pursuing, until Maxwell decided that he wanted to be caught, and he thought Fancy had moved on. Fancy has been in love with Maxwell for a while now. He came into the Tycoon Club (where she worked) with his friends Troy and Cole pretty regularly, and she tried to ask him out a couple of times, only to be rebuffed. She gave up on there being something more between them. However, she needs the position he's advertising for, as his assistant and cook. Fancy's determined to keep things professional between them, and to hide her feelings for Maxwell. However, Maxwell sees Fancy and considers all the possibilities. She's completely sexy, and he likes her--she's spunky and intelligent, and a great employee. He's not sure what he wants from her--he just wants her. But, his past makes him believe a wife and a family are not in the cards for him. At the same time, his attraction to Fancy makes it impossible not to pursue her and claim her as his own. For those who enjoy a jealous hero, it was kind of cute how Maxwell was jealous of his friend Cole's relationship with Fancy, who was very good friends with Cole.
This was a light (but not in a bad way), fun, and sexy read. I loved the back and forth between Fancy and Maxwell. They were both strong people, and neither wants to let the other win, although their feelings betray themselves into each others' arms. Additionally, it was great to catch up with Headley and Troy from Dangerous Bet: Troy's Revenge, who are very happily married, with a baby on the way, and more than willing to do some matchmaking between Fancy and Maxwell.
I do feel that the editing could be better. I hate to harp on that, because I've noticed that can be an issue with smaller presses. It didn't really hurt my enjoyment of this book, but I feel I should mention that there were issues here, for full disclosure. Editing problems aside, this was a great story. I enjoyed spending a Saturday watching Fancy and Maxwell's courtship unfold. For those readers who like the Diana Palmer-esque heroes and that kind of dynamic in a story (albeit with a pretty fiesty, independent heroine), you'd probably like Maxwell. He does have some of those traits.
I truly enjoyed this book. Thus the five star rating!
PS. I emailed Ms. Rochelle about Cole's story, and she kindly emailed me back almost immediately to tell me that his story came out in July. It's called Cole's Surrender, currently available through Red Rose Publishing. I'm looking forward to seeing Cole surrender to young, sweet Lauren. :)
This could have been a very good book. It had a nice plot.
But while reading it, some parts were like a wikpedia summary of an tv soap opera episode!
-I am pregnant! -You lie!I am sterile! -You are not sterile! -I am, and I want you gone! To think that I just bought a ring to marry you! *Doors slam, heroine leaves* *Hero broods in to glass* *Hero looks up* -Oh!It is you! My evil ex wife that i have not seen in 5 years! -Yes I am in your house even thou I have no idea how I came in. (Me:How is she there? And did she time it?Man!) -I wanted to tell you I am going to die in 6 months. And so I have to tell you that I have lied and you are not sterile. I had an abortion for no good reason. Then I seduced your doctor so he would tell you that you are sterile in order for me to leave you. (Me: Why didn't she just leave him?) -Oh,no! I have to go find the women i love and the woman I have turned out in the cold because i was convinced I was sterile, and I never went to a doctor since! *Hero dashes out the door*
This all happened in a page and a half. I kid you not. Enough said.
This is one of those books, that starts off okay, but by the end has you cursing at it's sheer stupidity. (I'm at a loss at how so many people rated this so highly --I just don't get it!)
The Hero's an indecisive idiot. One minute he doesn't want the h, then he only wants her as a sex buddy, then he wants her, but no one else can go near her, then he wants her for always but still treats her like crap. He's hot, then cold, then hot then cold, again and again.
She's a harpy. I actually liked her in the begining, but then...oh she made me want to slap her. She sees a half naked woman on his bed, so she tells him she has to much pride to be okay with him 'sleeping' with other people. Then she has sex with him! He never explains the situation, but she still "melts in his arms" ...Seriously?
Add to that, the story is inconsistent, and plot devices are thrown in almost as an after thought. The story isn't planned out, characters act in ways that make little to no sense, and is just poorly written (and that doesn't even include the grammatical mistakes!) Honestly, it just isn't worth your time. It's one good point, is that I was able to make it to the very end...One of the few occasions I can say I'm thankful for short books!
A side note: For the first 3/4ths of the book, I didn't even know I was reading an interracial romance. The only thing that gives it away is the cover (which I obvioulsy didn't look at closely enough) and a reference to Nelly and Ciara (which at least for me, doesn't automatically mean there's a black character involved). It's not til last half of the book that skin color's even mentioned!
Fancy Shayne needs this job from Maxwell Reed, not only does she want something different from what she’s been doing, but she has obligations that she takes very seriously. The only fly in the ointment is Maxwell Reed himself, the man is too confident and thinks too highly of himself.
Maxwell Reed needs Fancy like he needs air to breathe – but he isn’t going to lower his pride and let her know that. Maxwell knows that Fancy is only after the paycheck when she applies for the job as Cross Star ranch, he also knows that she is not only the most suitable applicant for the job, but the one that gets just a little bit too far under his skin.
From the beginning the job means more to Fancy than Maxwell knows or even realizes. When the attraction that they have been skirting around for far too long – makes an appearance, Maxwell again wonders if that is also about the job.
Ms. Rochelle has a natural touch when it comes to interracial novels. BOSS MAN is the second in the TYCOON CLUB series and it is finally Fancy and Maxwell’s story. From book one DANGEROUS BET– TROY’S REVENGE, we were treated to a sexual tension and many confrontations between the two that made this book a much anticipated one for me.
Fancy is young, pretty, and has all the stereotypical things going for her that Maxwell hates in a woman, but finds he is unable to resist in Fancy. Fancy on the other hand, knows what she wants, but is also aware enough of the realities of life to know that not every cloud had a silver lining
Fancy and Maxwell are a force to be reckoned with in every way. They make good competitors and evener greater lovers. However both have baggage and secrets that keeps them literally stuck on a path that is about to collide into each other. Maxwell isn’t prepared and take new events and realities as he does everything else – a little too serious, while Fancy’s whose feet are firmly placed on the ground tries to take everything in her stride, but some things are no less painless to accept.
I Love reading Marie Rochelle’s books and BOSS MAN is a most have for any true fan of Ms. Rochelle’s work. She has continued on with this series in dramatic style, while letting us catch up on old favourites and new players. I am very much looking forward to the next book in Ms. Rochelle’s TYCOON CLUB series
Max is a walking misunderstanding so many misunderstandings. But i loved it good read again for me like the first book in the series the editing of the book was poorly done there were some errors but didnt make my opinion of the book change. Fancy stood her grounds and Max was very sweet at times i'm glad that in the end she didnt make it easy for him accepting him back after what he said to her. Cant wait for Cole's story should be interesting. I'm just discovering the author would like to read more from her.
Mostly because I really think the Hero's a bit jerk and more annoying than I like, but overall I enjoyed it. The storyline's awesome but there are some parts that a bit boring to me. I liked the 'drama' at the end of the book though, very dramatic and intense.
Looking forward to read the next installment of the series.
Reading the back of the book and reviews for this book it sounded like an interracial Diana Palmer ... I love Diana Palmer! The book started out promising and then ??? I need description! There were a few bits and pieces dropped about what Maxwell and Fancy looked like yet not enough. I want to be painted a picture! I want his green eyes to glow like emeralds when he is angry or his large rough hands to run across her full bottom lip ...
I also feel like the ex-wife was just thrown in at the last minute to tie things up and then she was set out like day old garbage. The story did not flow for me and the lack of editing in some places drove me crazy.
I did however enjoy the fact that it was just a man/woman falling in love through all the upheavals.
Lastly, I agree with others Maxwell was a dickhead a few times; he reminded me of a lot of Diana Palmer's alphas in that way, LOL.
I was excited to read this book based on the description and reviews but was sadly disappointed. The writing was jumpy and confusing. I did not like the hero at all. He was stupid and uncommunicative. When the heroine believes he cheats on her he never gets around to explaining exactly what happened. He expects her to be waiting around for him and hold her arms out for him ready for whenever he decides to come to her. The story was unrealistic and uninspiring.
This book was seriously confusing. I didn't get the whole I want you, I don't want you..it was confusing, It was like the author was trying to create some sort of conflict in there somewhere, but it just wasn't making sense and once again this book was riddled with typos.
This is part of a set which I did not know. I just saw it mentioned on the NY Times list. It is a your basic steamy romance. It was't until I read about the author did a realize it was an interracial one. Makes me no difference it was a good story.
I hate this book.this writer never even describes exactly what the heroine likes like the whole book. The hero is beyond annoying. The dialogue is trite and amateurish.
This book started off OK and then got worse and worse and worse.... I'm starting to lose hope for interracial romances..the writing is almost always horrible
