All Your Fault

Rate this book
He's everything I shouldn't want.

When my husband got sick, he made me promise to find someone else when he was gone. On my first attempt, I crashed and burned. So I swore never to try again, focusing only on my foodie blog and my girls. But when pictures of me on an accidental non-date with my friend's brother—serious curmudgeon and yes, seriously hot single dad Will Archer—explode my blog hits, I have to rethink my strategy.

Getting sexy, surly Will to pose as my fake boyfriend could be the thing to course correct my struggling blog. But how can I ask him when our shaky friendship is clearly hiding something much deeper? Something neither one of us wants to admit is even there?

ALL YOUR FAULT is a steamy, emotional single-parent age-gap romance and the final book in the interconnected standalone Jewel Lakes Series.

All Your Fault was a strong 4.5 star read for me, I took a bit off because it had a bit more angst than I normally like. It was somewhat warranted but I felt like they kept re-hashing the same issues over and over.

Will is coming off a painful divorce; he married young, has two teenage daughters 16 & 18, his ex-wife is seriously dating someone and he’s still dealing with her parting words that made him feel he’s not good for anyone. Only one woman since his divorce has made him sit up and take notice, his younger brother’s late best friend’s widow he met months ago, but now she lives close by and he’s having trouble staying away.

Michelle is a bit of a mess, her oldest daughter has a health problem, her husband walked into a fire because he knew his time was limited, and her blog isn’t performing as well as she needs it to in order to support her and her two young daughters. She’s attracted to Will and she feels like she’s ready to date but she’s conflicted.

I liked both these characters, Will especially just seemed like a really great guy who was a bit bitter about the way his marriage ended. Michelle at times frustrated me, but I did like her. Their daughters were great secondary characters.

There were quite a few complications to their relationship, but they both were good about working through them. Overall, a great read and my favorite of the series.

4.5 🌟

This is a terrific slow-burn romance. Neither Michelle or Will are looking for romance, but they can’t seem to stay away from each other. They both have a moving van full of previous relationship baggage that they can’t seem to unpack. Michelle is a widow and Will’s wife left him to find a bigger, better life. Ouch.

I loved the tension between these two and their internal dialogues recognizing all the chemistry between them that they just can’t seem to decide to act on.

There is another side plot about Will’s boss that got a little confusing for me. I am hoping that we get a story about Will’s friend Eli and Michelle’s sister!! I did enjoy the insight into Will’s job and the little peek of him initially meeting Morgan from Finding His Cheer.

There was a lot of big feelings in this one and a little less action, but such a great and emotionally satisfying ending for Will and Michelle.

What a way to end a series!!

This small town age gap love story was the perfect way for Jewel Lake to end. Such a emotional roller coaster that ends in a beautiful satisfying conclusion.

Will is older and wiser. His attraction is to strong to deny.

A gorgeous man with salt and pepper hair wearing a dark, well-tailored suit and tie.

Will Archer was standing at the entrance of this restaurant. At this resort. Where I was.

Michelle thinks it’s to soon after the death of her husband but she can’t help but be drawn to Will.

“Michelle, god, Michelle,” he said, his face buried in my neck. Then he pulled back and we kissed—the longest, deepest, most perfect kiss I’d ever known.

I’m sad to see this series end but I know whatever comes next will be just as great.

What do you get when you put two scorned, scared-of-love individuals together with intense chemistry?

Will and Michelle.

Michelle is a widow trapped by her food blog and drowning beneath her fear of living without her husband. Will is a scorned divorcee who has absolutely no faith in himself. The majority of this book is back and forth. It was exhausting to read about but the honesty of their grief and personal healing arcs was absolutely beautiful.

What an incredible way to end this series. Each couple was passionate and damaged in ways that felt so real. Will and Michelle had hard lessons to learn in this story. I liked how it wasn’t necessarily one or the other, but BOTH of them who needed to find their new selves without their significant others.

A whirlwind of heartache and self-discovery happens on these pages that leads to an explosive union and a deeply romantic ending. What an honor to have been on this journey from the beginning. I’ll miss Jewel Lakes.

3.5⭐️

This story stars Michelle, a young widow with 2 little girls, and Will, a recently divorced man with 2 teenage daughters.
Neither of them is prepared for what comes up between them when they meet, and for that reason, during a good part of the book they approach and move away and it is not until almost at the end that they do not dare to take a step further.
While their indecision is totally understandable after seeing what they've been through, it gets a bit tiresome at times, but overall it's a good and entertaining story.

Tropes:
- small town
- silver fox
- single mom (of two school age girls)
- single dad (of two teenage girls)
- second chance at love
- heroine runs a food blog
- cringy “meet cute”

POV: first person - dual

Type: stand-alone

Every sentence spoken to each other was laced with anger. Straight up toxic and not in the fun hot way. Not one conversation ended pleasantly until the end.

Too much push from both characters and not enough pull. Annoying stubborn asses is what they were.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Michelle and Will. Both are dealing with their past and are fighting their feelings for one another. They have a strong chemistry and a fun banter. It's a slow burn romance with a heartwarming story. It moves fluidly and is a beautiful story.

Michelle Franco is a single mother with two daughters. William Archer (Hank's eldest brother from Book 4) is a single parent with two older daughters. These main characters started their families early, but "things happened" that changed to turn it all upside down in a blink of an eye. Because of their traumatic pasts, both main characters decided not to enter any relationship/commitment to protect themselves and their children. This decision is the hurdle that Michelle and Will have to overcome and is the cause of all angst and misunderstandings in the book. Will they be strong enough to get over their past, or will they forever deny their feelings for each other?

Top 5 reasons to read All Your Fault

1.) Writing is relatable and easy to follow.
I have enjoyed reading the series because the author makes sure that each book is a standalone and any backstory is summarized clearly. This book is suitable for followers and non-followers of the series because it gives a brief background on some of the past characters' stories.

2.) Character development is slower but poignant and honest.
It is impossible not to love Michelle and Will. Both have their flaws but also their strengths whenever they get together. It is as if one wouldn't be as "good" alone versus together. They were terrific "springboards" of each other and helped guide the other on a "better path/option."
I enjoyed Michelle's growth after her husband's passing. There are more underlying things happening than a simple work-related accident that gutted me upon my discovery. I appreciate the author mentioning this issue, which helped explain the helplessness of the situation. Although not detailedly discussed, it made me research and seek out further information about it. Michelle is one brave woman to have gone through what she did and raised wonderful kids - all at the same time.
Will's growth and acceptance of the inevitable came at the end, but I thought it rounded out the story very well. With his admission, Michelle was able to accept what was going on between them. I think Will is brave in that way.

3.) Secondary supporting characters - mostly family, siblings, and own children were cute and lovely.
Everyone in the book surrounding Michelle and Will provided a good balance of seriousness and humor - from Michelle's parents, witty kids' antics to Will's hilarious daughter Remy and later Will's nagging sister, Stella. I love how things can go from one spectrum of emotions to another with these colorful supporting casts.
My favorite characters were Michelle's mom and Michelle's daughter, Emma. Both characters' ages might be too far apart, but they gave either a very thought-provoking comment/advice or a hilarious retort in many scenes. I either laughed at the reply and stopped and pondered what these characters said. Who knew that wit and humor could skip a generation (hint hint Michelle) and land to the next.

4.) The ending shows how important family bonds are. Family is everything!
I liked how the author made Michelle realize she was hindering her from "growing" and moving on. It had to take Will's action and words to finally open her eyes to the possibility of a bright future with Will.
I wanted to hug Will when he did what he did at the bar/restaurant nearing the end. He finally opened himself up to Michelle and left it up to her instead of denying his true feelings.
Note: I would have loved it if the author had explored further William and his strained familial relationship. There was a brief moment in the book where I thought Will would get things resolved directly with the concerning party, but it didn't happen. Instead, the ending breezed through the resolution. Since this is the series' last book, I would have hoped for closure on this topic - there were hints in Book 4! The author only mentioned that both parties are "working on it" and inferred that all would be well at the end.

5.) Lastly, Do you know what a town manager is?
This book tells us and more! I never realized that such a job or position existed, and it is a critical one for a small town. I thought the mayor did it all but nope! Promotion and beautification of a town/county are the town manager's job or initiate and provide options! Will is the perfect town manager (then later more in the book) since he grew up and loves the community. He is always ready to help, and everyone seems to trust him with his decisions about the town. Previous mayors mentored Will, so he knows what would work and improve the community.

--------------------

Pros:
- Second chances and romance focusing the main characters' growth
- Angst, slow-burning emotions
- Family and love main themes

Cons:
- Boo!!! I cannot believe that this is the last book in the Jewel Lake series. Really?!?! Other characters popped up that I am curious about now, like Reece, Michelle's sister!
- There is some "blame game" going on, BUT that only builds up to the past characters, not meant-to-be. I did not like the emotional abuse that came into it because anyone would be traumatized in that situation.

Tropes: second chances, single parent, small country romance, fake relationship, friends-to-lovers

This is my favorite Claire Wilder book yet!!! I have read many of Wilder's books and while I liked all of them, I LOVED this one. It has all the "feel goods" that come with a romance novel: small town: Jewel Lakes County, NY; the quintessential diner and village green; fun characters from other books in the series (too many to list); crossover characters and places: Blue Collar Romance/Oak Bend, MI; heart ache, forgiveness, cute children, and, of course, love conquering all.
I love that Will (H) is a little older in this story. He is 40, divorced, a dedicated father, a good friend and successful businessman; but, he sees himself as a failure. Michelle (h) is 32, a widow, wonderful mother, and trying to give her daughters the life they deserve as she tries to survive life after the death of her husband. Will and Michelle need each other - they bring out the best in each other, but they are too afraid of being vulnerable and of the hurt they could ultimately cause. I have often laughed out loud when I'm reading something funny, but I almost never get emotional. "All Your Fault" changed that. I felt some of the best written scenes were those between Michelle and the spirit of her late husband, Joe. I don't think I'll be able to hear the word "stubborn" without thinking of Joe.
This story was beautifully written and incredibly poignant. Although it brought out some deep feelings, this story was not depressing. I actaully found it to be uplifting and realistic. If you are a fan of Claire Wilder, you will love "All Your Fault". If you have never read one of her books, then this is an awesome place to start. I would highly recommend reading this story.

This was a slow burn of a widow and a divorcee figuring out how to start over given they are both very hurt and struggling to find their way.

Michelle lost her husband in a fire while doing his job, but he already knew he was dying from a rare disease. Now Michelle is scared that her daughter may have inherited the disease. While waiting for results she was comforted by a stranger with piercing eyes. Michelle is focusing on her two young girls and her food blog that she is trying to keep afloat.

Will lost his wife after she decided that she wanted more and better. While his daughters are almost out of the house he is struggling to move past the hurt. It helps he has a pact with his friend to never date again.

Michelle's followers get a glimpse of Will and are desperate to know who his is, and if she is dating again. Will she wants to play along to help her blog she can't help how she wants to try for real.

There was a lot going on with Will's work that was a little confusing but does get resolved at the end. I understand this being a slow burn as it made sense for them both having experience a loss, but I also wanted to scream at them both to get it on already. Still a great addition to the Jewel Lakes series.

We've gotten Hank Archer's story, and Stella's, but now is the time for their big brother Will's story. Will is divorced and bitter. He feels like a failure for not being able to save his marriage, and for not being a good enough son. He has promised never to get serious about another woman, let alone marry again. When he sees Michelle, there is just something about her. She is a widow with two small girls and a somewhat successful food blog. After a failed relationship following her husband's death, she swears off men. However, there is something about Will. Neither is willing to admit that there might be love again, or even more to life than what they have right now. When they finally open up, when it is almost too late, the fireworks that result make it all worth it. Their HEA is hard won, but well worth it in the end.
This book is the conclusion of the Jewel Lakes series, and it goes out with a bang. Claire Wilder saved the best for last, and while I am sad to see the series end, I am very much looking forward to what she publishes next. It can stand alone, but the series is so good that it is best read together. A very good read, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

“I was helpless in her presence. At her mercy. On my knees.”

It's a bittersweet goodbye to this lovely series!

Michelle and Will are single-parents. They both have two daughters and have given up on finding love after the hurt and insecurity they carry from their former relationships. Their plan to focus on career and their daughters go up in flames, when the attraction and feelings between them become too hard to keep at bay.

This book takes place in Jewel Lakes but more so in the fall/winter season, so it's less about the lakes and more about the cozy, small-town feel during the holidays. I missed the lakes but also really liked that warm feel.

All Your Fault is a slow burn. The attraction is there but both Will and Michelle don't want to act on it. They are stubborn and there's a bit of pushing and pulling each other back and forth. I'm an impatient bitch so I just wanted to squish them together already. However, the scenes they do have are definitely intense and steamy.

P.S. The cilantro discussion was hilarious and I love that Claire included it since I remember discussing it in a previous poll she had. I agree with Will, they are 'soap leaves'!

I received an ARC. This is my voluntary, honest review.

'All Your Fault' by Claire Wilder is part of her Jewel Lakes series and tells the story of Michelle Franco and Will Archer. Michelle is a widow with two daughters and writes a food blog to help supplement her widow's pension from, Joe, her husband's firefighting job. Will is a successful businessman who is divorced and raising two daughters on his own. Michelle and Will know each other through Joe's best friend, Hank, who is also Will's brother.

Neither Michelle nor Will are interested in having a relationship, albeit for different reasons. Michelle was still dealing with her grief from losing her husband and helping her young daughters get over the lose of their father. Will felt like a failure for the divorce even though he had tried keep his 20 year marriage going when he knew it was over. They were both happy with their jobs, raising their respective daughters, and being with their friends. However, they keep running into each other and there is a mutual attraction. Maybe it is time for the two of them to try again?

I LOVED Michelle and Will's story. I devoured this book!!

Michelle is still dealing with emotions from the death of her husband. Will is still dealing with feelings from the breakup of his 20-year marriage. While one feels like they can't replace the love they lost, the other feels they aren't good enough for anyone. These two have great chemistry that they constantly try to fight.

While I laughed at some of the banter between these two, I also found myself having tears a couple of times. There were a couple of heartwarming moments that Michelle has in her mind with her ex and then with her daughter that were absolutely amazing.

This was a great single-parent, slow-burn book that had me all in my feels!!

I liked this book so much because it had grown-up people as its main characters! So often, the hero and heroine are so young that their tribulations seem a bit melodramatic. Claire Wilder's writing makes us feel all the hesitation, fear, and anger the characters go through. Will and Michelle are both skittish about a new relationship, and they push each other away, despite how much they are attracted to each other. They both have so many issues to work through, including confusion about their careers, concern for aging parents, and allowing themselves to love again. There is humor throughout that comes from their relationship as well as other side characters.
I love Jewel Lakes! May this town hold many more stories.

Michelle is a widow with two young girls. Her husband was a firefighter that died in a fire. She starts a blog to help make ends meet. In her blog she tells about everything happening in her life and her followers are loving her drama. They really want her to fall in love but she has decided that she will stay single and just love her family and friends. She will never get to live out her dream.

Will is a divorced man that has sworn off love forever. He has two daughters on the verge of adulthood. He has always wanted to be in politics but he just doesn’t want to have the marriage and family required. He will never live out his dream.

Can these two find a way to follow their dreams together? This book was very well written and very entertaining. There was plenty of steam. I totally enjoyed this book.

Another good addition to the series:
This was the final book in the Jewel Lake series but it can totally be read as a standalone. I have read all of them and whilst they all deal with couples who have to work through some tough issues, all of the stories felt unique. I liked that this one featured a more mature couple.
Both Michelle and Will had misgivings about entering a relationship again. It was fun watching these two fumble, resist and pretend to fake it before eventually working their way to... something real and lasting. I must admit I got a little annoyed with them as they went back and forth and were hot and cold. However I really enjoyed the ending.

Slow burn romance between two people who don’t believe in second chances. Michelle is a widow with two young children and meets older, sexy Will again after a first encounter a year before. Will is still hurting after a divorce ended his twenty-year marriage a year before. I loved the way this story developed slowly, letting you get to know the main characters. It’s obvious to the reader if they could both ‘let go’ of their pasts and hang-ups they would be perfect for one another. I found the story quite realistic and really felt for Michelle & Will. When they finally give into their passion it is romantic and steamy – although there are still rocks along the road to their HEA! A really good read.

Michelle and Will are neither looking for love or romance. His wife left him and she is a widow. Both of them are raising children. What is really cool is that although neither wants to start anything with the other they are drawn to one another. This is the coolest kind of slow burn romance in that this pair finds themselves almost not being able to help wanting to be with one another. Although their past has taught them to fear their time with one another is bringing out the best in one another. Never have I thought the phrase, feel the fear and do it anyway, was more apt. This was funny, emotional and hopeful.

All Your Fault brings us back to the Jewel Lake Series. Michelle and Will are both in need of a second chance at love.

Michelle, widowed and raising two daughters on her own, is also trying to keep her food blog alive and supporting them financially.

Will Archer, divorced and brother to her late husband’s brother. His job as the town manager as been losing its thrill.

Living in a small town it’s almost impossible to not run into one another. Sharing a mutual attraction, they begin to develop a friendship that both come to rely on. And, friendship is all each other can handle right now.

Both of them are trying to figure life out. Both of them letting their pasts control their futures. Both afraid to take that next step out of their comfort zone to reach for a new dream.

What a great ending to this series!
I have enjoyed all the books in the Jewel Lake Series, although I found Michelle and Will’s story really touched the emotions. I’m not sure if it was because they were both more grown up or of if was the effects from the past but their story was definitely heart warming.

Neither Michelle nor Will are looking for a relationship but the pull between them is strong and they can’t stay away from each other. The romance was a slow burn but the chemistry was palpable from early on.

The storyline was gripping and as always with Claire, it was well written and flowed well.

This is a great series for some rainy days!

What a great series, and no better way to end it then with the man most in need of an HEA, Will Archer.
Single dad with two teenage daughters, who's really good at pushing people away. But he's a good man who takes care of himself and his Community.

Michelle is a single mom with two yong daughters who's just trying to stay on top of things with her blog.

Chemistry is on point, banter is smart and oh so fun, the teasing is my very favorite it is hysterical.

These two are finally ready to face their demons. But can they let it happen without destroying what they have on the way.

I loved this book so much!!! Will and Michelle are just divine!!!

Neither Will or Michelle are looking for a relationship, both having sworn off them completely. But that’s a problem for Michelle because she promised her husband Joe that she would find someone else to love after he died.

Both Will and Michelle spend a lot of time denying their feelings for each other because they’ve both been burned so badly in the past. They also butt heads quite a bit because Will and Michelle point out painful truths to each other which sting. But when they finally get together, it’s amazing!

I’m so glad I found this series and I have loved each and every book. This was a great way to end the series.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the story of two single parents who have both suffered a type of loss. Another relationship is not even imaginable. They try to focus on their children and work. Neither Will nor Michelle are prepared for the attraction they feel towards each other. They both had so much baggage to get thru, but wonder if they could try again. Outside pressures and internal struggles give a ride of emotions. Their story is a great way to wrap things up.

I got this book on stuff your kindle day and after reading the synopsis I was really looking forward to it. I love single mom romances and I love single dad romances just a bit more. This book had both which I though would mean I would love it. It was kinda disappointing. At some parts it seemed to be getting good and at other parts it was very boring. I kinda got super annoyed with the heroine. She was clearly not over her dead husband but was also getting mad at the hero for not making a move. And the hero also seemed to be too much into his head. Overall it eas an ok read. Definitely a 3 🌟 read.

The Jewel Lake series comes to an end with Claire's best story yet.

Will and Michelle are both single parents and each have a lot of emotional/relationship baggage. Michelle's husband died and he wanted her to find love again. Will is divorced and his relationship didn't end well. Despite agreeing to fake date it is easy to see the deeper connection between them.

The story is an emotional and engaging read and I am looking forward to seeing what Claire writes next.

This was a wonderful read. It’s quite the slow burn, but the chemistry between Michelle and Will was so obvious from the first page! They both struggle with being hurt in the past by their partners, and not ever wanting to go through that again. It’s why they promised themselves never to get involved with someone else again. However, their connection is just too strong to keep denying! Another great book in the Jewel Lakes series!

This book in the Jewel Lake series is such a great read we have Michelle and Will, two people who went thru heartache. Michelle lost her husband in a fire and Will went thru a divorce.

These two compliment each other but they both need to realize there is more to live for. Michelle needs to realize that she can find love again and Will needs to realize he is worth loving.

We get to see some of our favorite characters again in this book. Plus we got to meet some new characters. Hope these ones get their own book at some point.
