Caspian is showing his cousin Belinda how to slow time and enjoy her waffles when an earthquake shakes the house. Books fall from bookshelves. Something falls against the door, so they can’t get out. They have to move quickly! Fortunately Caspian, Belinda and Grandpa all have invisible magic wands. The open the window, prop it open, climb out, and run down the driveway as all around them shakes and crashes. The neighbor never saw anyone run so quickly. When it’s all over, Belinda wants to eat waffles with syrup. Grandpa promises that if they fell on the floor, he’ll make more.
Shake, rattle and roll! This brilliant picture story book is the second book in the Invisible Wand Series. Caspian is back, bringing his cousin, grandpa and of course his trusty wand. What are they going to do when there is an earthquake? This engaging story has terrific illustrations and has embedded educational aspects. Aged for 4-8 year olds it would make a fun addition to any class or home library.
Last year, Caspian received a very unconventional gift on his un-birthday from his grandfather. It was an invisible magic wand. Today, Caspian decides he's going to use it during breakfast time to change the speed of what's happening in the world. Caspian's cousin Belinda becomes very upset and decides she must have an invisible magic wand from grandfather as well. As soon as grandfather hands her a wand, everything starts shaking and the trio is trying to figure out how to stop it using their wands.
This is a super cute book and I love the illustrations. They are very colorful and vibrant. Lois Wickstrom writes engaging stories that often times have a scientific lesson in them. I would recommend this book, as well as others by this author, to have in your personal/school/daycare library. These make great books for learning!
Things are Shaking is the second book in the Invisible Magic Wand series by Lois Wickstrom. I have always enjoyed reading and how it opens a world of imagination for children. Even as an adult, I wish I could have a magic time-controlling wand to slow down time. When I am enjoying something, it always seems time speeds by at triple speed so, I would love to be able to slow it down some. I can only imagine all the adventures this book can spark for children who use their imagination and pretend that they have magic wands just like in the book.
This book is about how Caspin can use his magic wand to control time. He shows his cousin, Belinda how he can use his wand and she demands a wand. Grandpa gives her one just as an earthquake begins shaking the house. Can Caspin, Belinda, and Grandpa use the wands to get to safety? Find out by reading the book, Things are Shaking!

It is a fun children’s story that has a cute storyline, colourful illustrations, fun, adventure, educational elements/lessons, and a touch of magical whimsey in the form of an Invisible Magic Wand. Caspian’s cousin Belinda has come for a visit and Caspian shows her his invisible magic wand that his grandpa gave him for his birthday. She wants one too, and Grandpa just happens to have one spare. With interesting characters, this quirky story was engaging and fun, feeding both the imagination, as well as teaching a few lessons such as problem solving. Happy reading!
When Caspian shows his cousin Belinda how his invisible magic wand controls time, she wants one too. Grandpa just happens to have a spare one which he gives to Belinda and just as she starts learning how to use it the house starts shaking. An earthquake is causing books to fall from the shelves, furniture to fall over, and the clock to fall off the wall. Caspian, Belinda, and Grandpa must find a way to get themselves to safety.
This is a cute book for kids to learn about what happens during an earthquake and a bit about earthquake safety. The invisible magic wand allowing Caspian and Belinda to control time is a cute touch. The beautiful illustrations throughout the book really pull the story together and bring it to life.
I enjoyed this story as much as my great nieces and great nephew did. The illustrations were captivating and engaging.
We continue with the story of Caspian and his magic wand along with this grandfather, whom gifted this wand to Caspian.
Caspian's cousin, Belinda, wanted a magic wand of her own just like Caspian has. When Belinda finally gets her own wand, things are a moving and a shaking for sure. Belinda uses her magic wand to help Caspian and Grandfather...but in doing so there is truly a valuable lesson to be learned.
I do not want to give the entire book away, but this a very good story and it tugged at my heart.
Let's talk about earthquakes. That is the storyline for this book. Caspian and cousin Belinda are at the table eating breakfast. When Belinda asks her grandfather for her own magic wand. That's about where everything changes for Caspian and his family. Will the magic wand help in an earthquake? Does Belinda get a magic wand? Reading this story is the only way to find out. I have grown to love this author. Her children's stories are not only fun to read but they are interactive as well. The characters are full of adventure and that opens the door for our children to ask questions. What a fun story to read. I hope you enjoy this story as much as my kid did.

The picture book is filled with bright illustrations and the children will love the story line. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
This is the next book in the “Invisible Magic Wand” story, and I found it to be just as cute as the other stories have been. I love that this gives children the opportunity to use their imagination to figure out how to get out of certain situations. This book involved two of the magic wands and an earthquake. This is a perfect book to give parents a chance to discuss natural disasters with their kids and ways to get out of the home should it happen. Again, the illustrations are perfect for the story. Once again the colors just pop off the page and are so vivid. That to me makes it easy to see what is going on in the story and helps set the narrative. Terrific book for kids.
Caspian and his cousin are enjoying a fun breakfast with their grandfather and when he uses his magic wand his cousin insist on getting one of her own. As the three enjoy their breakfast and the wands when something starts to happen and the shaking starts. This is a quick read and shows how the three are able to help each other using their own wands. It is a nice way to show communication and how to help others. The only part that I did not like was the way the cousin demands her own wand at the start of the book and she is given it. Otherwise, this is a nice story to show young children how easy it is to help others.
This book is a follow up to Caspian’s story of his Unbirthday Present of a magic wand that can manipulate time. With this installment, Caspian’s cousin Belinda gets her own wand, and there are definitely some unexpected consequences. This was a quick read for my 8 year old, and she read it as a bedtime story, to me in just a few minutes. My kiddo was also able to find some issues in the kids behavior and comment on it, making it a learning experience as well as a bedtime story, which I love. I would definitely recommend this to young readers.
Things are Shaking (Invisible Magic Wand Series) by Lois Wickstrom 3 Stars
This is a whimsical story for young children. Caspian’s cousin comes to visit and sees his magic wand. After he uses it during breakfast, Belinda decides that she wants one too. Luckily their grandfather happens to have a spare. Right after he gives it to her, an earthquake happens. So the adventure begins. I’ve read many books by this author and even though this was not one of my favourites, I think children will enjoy it. It is filled with colourful pictures and magic.
What can I say except this is yet another hit for this serious. My daughter gets so excited every time I tell her we have a new book to read by this author and I can see why. As usual this book was well written, engaging for the whole family and pure entertainment, even while touching on more serious subjects. The author does an amazing job at connecting with audiences of all ages - I enjoyed this book just as much as my 2 year old did! We have read this book multiple times and can wait to read whatever comes next.
Last year Caspian received a Magic Wand from his grandfather. It could speed up and slow down time. In this story, his cousin Belinda asks for a Magic Wand because she wants to be able to do the same. It is pretty cool to speed up time through things you might not like so much and slow down time to enjoy the things you love. Speeding up time through an earthquake, getting out of the house safely, and running fast are just some of the things Belinda does in her adventure. As always, Lois Wickman's books are a great read for children!
My 4-year-old grandson was absolutely enamored with this tale, Things Are Shaking by Lois Wickstrom! In this escapade, Caspian's cousin Belinda also longs for a magic wand. However, how can they come to the rescue when everything starts to tremble? Will they be able to rely on their magic wands? This narrative is delightful and stimulating. The illustrations are vibrant, bringing the narrative to life and keeping little readers hooked. We will certainly be enjoying other Caspian stories, as well as this one!
Lois Wickstrom has written yet another imaginative story about Caspian and his family. I love these stories and the beautifully rendered illustrations within them. This is a short story that will spark most children's imaginations while also sharing knowledge in such a fun way that most won't realize they are learning simultaneously.
In this book, Caspian's cousin, Belinda, wants an invisible magic wand like her cousins. Does Grandpa have another one for her? If she gets a wand, will it control time like Caspian's? You have to read to find out.
I always love Lois Wickstrom’s books! They are cute, imaginative, and fun to read with my little ones. We read through this one together and then pretended we had our own Invisible Magic Wands! It was interesting to see and hear what the kids would speed up and slow down, some of them took me by surprise. This author always gives us such an enjoyable read with the added fun of including the whole family. Turn it into a game like we did! You won’t regret having a fun time with this quick read, pick it up and enjoy!
Caspian is back for another adventure in the Invisible Magic Wand Series. After showing off his wand, Caspian’s cousin wants one too! His grandpa gives her a wand and then an earthquake happens! Caspian, his cousin and his grandpa are left to help save themselves and those around them from the earthquake with the help of their wands. As always, this author’s books have a great storyline and bright pictures! I would highly recommend this book to any teacher or parents who wants to bring out the imagination in their child(ren).
Growing up in California, it feels like earthquake preparedness should be the "norm." However, each and every time I experience a quake, I am always shocked. Always preparing for the "big one." So I was really happy to find this book to help me explain all of this with my own kids. I know they teach some things in class, however, having two small kids with anxiety meant I would have to address it in a different way. Things are Shaking was the answer to this very problem! I highly recommend reading it to your kids to talk about scary things such as earthquakes.
Caspian is back but not for an Unbirthday. This time he is joined by his cousin and Grandpa as their world is rocked quite literally. Luckily they have their trusty magic wands to help them out of any sticky situation. The bright and colourful illustrations help bring the story to life which children will delight in. It is appropriately aged for kids between the ages of 4 to 8 years old. Lois once again brings fun to your doorstep for all to enjoy.
This book is a very cute story for the kids. I read this to my three year old niece and she loves it. Her favorite part was the pictures . They were so colorful and bright. Caspian’s cousin Belinda comes for a visit. He shows her his new invisible wand and then she wants one. Caspian’s grandpa gives Belinda her very own wand as well. Then all of a sudden an earthquake happens and the adventure begins. Did their wands start the earthquake or was it something else?
Caspian is back with his Invisible Magic Wand and this time, he is showing it to his cousin Belinda, he shows her how it can control time and Belinda asks Caspian’s Grandpa for one of her own, but when he goes to get one for her, an earthquakes hits and shakes the house! Will Caspian and Belinda be able to use their Invisible Magic Wands to escape the earthquake? This is a children’s book which is both magical and educational, with fun illustrations and something everyone can enjoy.
We love Lois Wickstrom books in this house, there is always so much to learn from her books. Things are Shaking is no different. I love how this book got my kids imaginations going about what they would do if they had their own magic wands. These books always lead to conversations about how we would handle certain situations. This was a great story with great illustrations that my kids love! I can’t wait to see what we can read next by this author.
Love is this author! This book is great, love the way it's well written and great illustrations! Reading these to my 4month old niece to reading them with my 12-year son are both so much fun to see their reactions. I would recommend for preschoolers and care givers. Becoming one of my favorite children's authors.
This was a winner in my house. Belinda and Caspian working their wands for the syrup and then the earthquake had my grandson giggling. The author has a way of making learning fun and entertaining. Caspian has become a favorite story at bedtime here. We used this one to talk about speed and movement and what to do in an earthquake. A favorite for sure.
Caspian's Grandfather gives him a magic wand. His cousin Belinda wants a wand as well. With both Caspian and Belinda playing with their wands, the house starts shaking but is it the wands or is it something else?
Cute story, I thought the problem solving skills on what to do once they figured out were entertaining.
The illustrations are wonderful in all of the books by Lois Wickstrom. The stories really draw you in and are just long enough to entertain and short enough to capture the attention of a young child. This story about invisible magic wands and how not to abuse their power is so charming and educational. Things truly get shaking in this book.
My seven-year-old loves Caspian's stories! In this adventure, Caspian's cousin Belinda wants a magic wand too. But what happens when things start to shake? Can Caspian and Belinda save the day with their magic wands? This story is cute and engaging. The pictures bring the story to life and keep little readers engaged. We will be reading this, and other Caspian stories more!
Lois Wickstrom writes yet another great children's story. The stories spark imagination and inspire readers to think outside of the box. This book is part 2 of a 6 part series of story stories all designed to give readers a new perspective. I enjoyed reading this just as I have enjoyed all of the stories I've read by Lois.
Little miss loves these books - they are easy for her to read and the colourful illustrations keep her engaged....
This one was super cute - there's even a touch of magic (wand) so what wasn't to love. Even her older brother stuck his head in to listen (he's into Harry Potter currently).
This is a great read for kids and can highly recommend.
