Har inte läst den här boken på ett par år och var lite rädd att den skulle vara en av de böcker en älskade djupt i tonåren men som sen visar sig vara en inte hälften så fantastisk bok som minnet. Men jag kände och grät lika mycket som förut; den får bo i min hylla för favoriter igen.

Den var lite annorlunda faktiskt, men ändå lite typisk förortsrealism. Helt klart läsvärd, skildrar för det mesta sina annorlunda personer fördomsfritt och realistiskt, men ibland blir det nästan som ett helt varv runt "Se på den avvikande, han är helt vanlig ju" (eller så är det bara jag..) Hemskt och tänkvärt slut som väcker stora, stora frågor. Bra att den berör lite "övernaturligheter" men inte gör dem till enda möjligheten så man får tro vad man vill

Book about loneliness and about yearning for connection with other human being, told in such a simple, yet beatiful language that it simply brakes your heart. This is a book that will stay with you for a long time, and make you appreciate what you have.

The lonely woman-thief. The handsome street musician with crooked legs. Lonely transgender photographer, and more. Misfits, living on the edge of the society - these are the characters. They all want acceptance and love, friendship, they often feel unworthy of it. Nilsson understands very well how we, as society, often perceive others through their physique and push them away, when they do not fit the beauty standard. Our history and our bodies influence who we are. That's why Nilsson doesn't shy away from writing about physiological functions, but somehow this doesn't make it vulgar, simply human.
Miscommunication,fear of rejection, withdrawal. It is so hard to tell someone that we love them, but terribly easy to yell hurtful words, when we angry.

I really really hope someone is working right now on translating Nilsson's works into English. She has at least two more books that I know of, and I cannot wait to put my hands on them. I recommend this book with all my heart.

This book has a seamless way of moving from one character to the next without skipping a beat, which makes the story just run smoothly over you like a stream of water, the narrative doesn't pick any favourites, it doesn't dig deeper into any supposed main characters, the person passing the main character on the street is just as important even though we'll never see her again, because we're all human beings with thoughts and feelings and somewhere we're heading, and that's what this book is about; human life, and the way we interact with one another and the way we enter and exit each other's lives, and the way we shape each other when we do; the characters are the rocks on the bottom of the stream.
