Goddesses #2

Life & Death: The Goddess of Light

Rate this book
To die, to sleep, perchance… well, Death can’t. Not before she finds someone to take over her job. The Goddess of Death wants to die. Badly. But not before she finds a successor. Where does one go for those?

Tired of all the decisions - to reap or not to reap - the Goddess of Life & Light wants out, too. Who knew 8 billion earthlings would require quite so much attention. Working with Death is never a picnic. That Excel table and the constant yes-es and no-s would drive anyone mad.

Which one of the lovers - a broody guardian angel or his perpetually 17yo sweetheart - will Death recruit and can Life beat her to it? Will anyone at all fall for Death's sales pitch? Forever may be a short word, but what kind of a relationship would last for all eternity?

To read book #2, you don't need to read book #1 Charm & The Goddess of Fate, but it might be a fun option.

This book follows the youngest of Marina’s grandchildren who was separated from Mellie’s other
children and consequently wasn’t raised by Grace.

Ellie and Victor have been together for ten years but Ellie wants more from the relationship than Vic seems
to be willing to give. A new job offer comes to Vic and Ellie decides to find out more about an occurrence which happened on their last assignment
while wondering about something which had also just
occurred. Things are about to change between these two and the question is will they still be together or will they no longer be a couple.

These books about what happened when Marina wanted something she wasn’t going to have in her current life and what happened as a result of that wish spans quite a few books with more coming. It’s
fantasy and retelling of fairy tales with twists that give an entirely new outlook on some stories we’ve grown up with.

I enjoy being in this world she has created and wholeheartedly recommend this book and the books
she has written about this fairy tale dimension to all who enjoy fantasy and fairy tales. Most of us grew up listening or reading them and so it’s fun to see a new take on stories we’ve loved and see that even these characters can have the same hopes, dreams and aspirations as we humans do!

I invite you to delve into this world Sky has created and enjoy this genre again if you’ve not read fairy tales in a while. There is some good advice for us all in these stories as well as you read them.

I firmly believe you’ll be glad you read this story and hope you’ll also read the other books to see what happens and the result of what Marina’s wish brought about!

Following book one these are the former MCs grandchildren.. also sad beginning! But why was Death my favorite, very sarcastic as I would figure. Anyways, Victor and Ellie has so much communication and misunderstanding issues like.. friends come on. I did like this story and all of the characters!

Five serious Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for Life and Death by Sky Sommers.

This book plays ten years after Charm & Mayhem (book 1 in the series) and I absolutely loved it that Marina, Gabriel and other characters make a reappearance in this book. The Goddesses universe is growing, adding a new layer of excitement. As the title already suggests, the second book in the Goddesses Saga follows a more serious theme.

☠️The Goddess of Death has a death wish (yes, pun intended) and is in dire need of a successor. The possible candidate, no, actually the perfect candidate, has declined the offer to become a God ten years ago. Death is still searching …
But what’s the reason for a dark and brooding character to decline the perfect job offer?
The fear of losing someone he holds dear. Without that light to hold his darkness at bay, he might get consumed by his dark past.

In addition to Death’s continuing search for a successor, the underlying theme of this book is how to cope with the consequences of growing up in a dysfunctional family. The fear of getting attached, getting hurt, then being left when things get rough. It’s about breaking unhealthy patterns, of holding loved ones at a distance, or repeating old mistakes.

What you get is a heartfelt tale of change and self-awareness. But will it come early enough to save what he needs most, or will his decisions destroy his only chance for eternal happiness?
Read for yourself to find out😉

Wow! Sky Sommers always gives you food for thought with her relationships, but this one really takes the cake. When Ash: Crooked Fates ended, I really thought we were done with Ellie and Victor. How wrong could I be?! This book really takes the idea of Happily Ever After and shows us, that it's not over when the HEA happens. Happily ever afters take work. A LOT of work. This book is incredible in the way it portrays how that work happens. The misunderstandings, the assumptions, the whole tangled messup of jumping to conclusions and acting on those when talking could fix everything.

I loved every moment of this book, getting to see a deeper side to both Ellie and Vic, and some of the goddesses who have featured in previous books by this author. The more I read, the more charmed I am by the quirky dialogue and Sky's crazy brain. Highly recommend, especially if you want a different sort of romance read.

What a dark and gloomy beginning!!!

Good to know that when it comes to Death, there’s a check and balance system in place before the collection. We humans need to devise some kind of lie detector because ‘legends be born more from skillful storytellin’ dan actual fact’.

Death uses an Excel spreadsheet to track soul pick-ups and ‘Valhalla has a tech department’. The author takes “dragon tattoo” to the next level! Can you imagine being an immortal and having to recruit your own replacement for when you wish to die? How would you even sell taking over Death, especially when you just want out?

Fave quote:
‘Sumtimes hope is da most fearsome ting of all.’

Some sage advice from the author:
If you’re going to choose how and when you die, make sure you take into consideration *where* you die.

Readers can look forward to the next couple (Hans and Dita) in the upcoming ‘Love & Money: The Goddess of Luck’.

Life, Love, and Death, with a dash of Fate

Each book in the Magic Mirrors Series and Goddesses Series can be read on its own, but the author does such an amazing job at weaving them all into a fantastic world of magic within our own world, that I highly recommend you read all of them to get the full experience.
After getting to know Ellie and Vic in Ash, book 3 of the Magic Mirrors Series, I simply had to know how their relationship would continue, and the author did not disappoint.
This story contained all the sharp wit and sidesplitting humor I've come to expect from all Sommer's stories, but this one contained even more - a deeper level of emotion that touched my soul.
This story is perfect for everyone who loves a feisty heroine, a redeemed bad boy angel, and all the giggles and fuzzy feelings only an amazing romance can deliver.
Oh, and don't forget the meddling Goddesses, they might just fling a bit of magic your way as well.

There is a lot in this book. At points I felt I could go with a genealogy chart. Mainly, it’s a story about Ellie, the youngest of Marina’s grandchildren and Vic, a guardian angel. I love the way the author writes with dry humour, about the intermix of choice and Fate, how things that seem little mean so much, and the big things get overlooked just a little along the way. I love that there is a balance of light and dark, and that between the witticisms there is wisdom. I started this book three weeks ago, but I’m a slow reader.

What to say about this book…there’s never a dull moment to be sure. I like how all the characters meld together, finding their purpose/roles. The book had a lot of humour and sadness, touching on some heavy topics.
Very clever writing, I really liked it. I can’t wait for the next book.

Life & Death: The Goddess of Light (Goddesses Series Book 2)

By: Sky Sommers

This is the second book in the Goddesses Series. This story focuses on the Goddesses of Death and Light looking for replacements to take over the jobs, after being tied to these positions forever. Ellie and Victor have been together for ten years and even though they both love each other, there are some issues in their relationship. As they try to help the Goddesses of Death and Light find replacements while they resolve their problems, things don’t exactly go their way.

As a first-time reader of the series, the world and lure of the story is quite expensive. Sommers does a good job of making sure the reader understands the world regardless of their entry point. Despite the large cast of characters, each with their own intricate backstory, I never was confused or lost in the narrative. Ellie and Victor’s relationship is riddled with misunderstanding and miscommunication that is laughable, however their individual wounds explain why they continue to put up these barriers.

The side characters are quite a treat to read as well. Death is just as sarcastic and crass as one would hope. We enjoyed seeing Marina and Gabriel and how they interacted. It makes me curious to see how their relationship formed in the first book. And the tease of Dita and Hans was a pleasant touch.

Since the story is a standalone, I understood the need to explain information that series readers may already be familiar with, however as a first-time reader, I found the plot a little slow. There was a lot of explaining and discussions that were long, so if you’re the reader that likes things to happen quickly, this might not be the read for you.

The story is heavy on romance. Yes, there are paranormal elements; the story centers in an entirely paranormal world and there are action sequences, but that is not the focus. The center of this story is about learning how to trust, the importance of meaningful communication, and the need to break unhealthy patterns to protect your loved ones. So if you are looking for your paranormal romance to be heavy on the romance, then this is the book for you.
