A collection of stories by Peter Wells, better known as a film writer and director, which explores the world of cinema and film-making in settings such as Miami, Siberia, Paris and Australia. The collection includes the essay, "Confessions of a Provincial Pouf".
I pulled this collection of stories, and Peter Wells first collection 'Dangerous Desires', off my shelves because I was disappointed with so many works of more recent vintage that had read. I have thought long and hard about what to say about these stories and I feel I can only refer you back to what I wrote about 'Dangerous Desires' a few weeks ago (see: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...).
It is not that I would not happily repeat again and again what I said there if it would bring even one reader to explore these stories or the rest of Wells' oeuvre. But some things once said well shouldn't need to be repeated. If there is not one gay man in New Zealand who has read Peter Wells and felt compelled to sing his praises what can I do? Well I repeat these stories are some of the best I have read and I have no doubt that long after the other books gay men in New Zealand are currently reading have disappeared then Peter Wells will be read.
