Storytelling is inherent to Scotland's national identity. The stories we tell, and who we share them with, are a fundamental part of our lives. From remembering the tales passed down to us in childhood, to reflecting on the defining moments that shaped our lives, or the places, people and communities that helped us find home - stories connect us to ourselves and the people around us.

Whether it's the memory of picking berries in summer time surrounded by family, the transcedent joy of attending a ceilidh, or a newly-found family finding their feet in a foreign land, these pieces highlight the rich and varied tradition of storytelling in Scotland, paying tribute to the histories already written, and thise still to be told.

got this as a goodbye gift from my dear flatmate in edinburgh & it shows just how well she got to know me over the year<3 reading this on a shetland beach in one go was such a lovely experience, i absolutely related to some of these stories, with some similarities being too crazy of a coincidence. in conclusion, "scotland was not my first home. but it is the one which has captured my heart."

I enjoyed reading this little book. I admit that poetry usually goes over my head and that the Scottish dialect of some stories was a bit difficult to me, but otherwise I found most of the stories touching or interesting to read.

Αν εξαιρέσω τα ποιήματα που συνήθως δεν με αγγίζουν και κάποιες ιστορίες που με δυσκόλεψαν λόγω της Σκωτσέζικης διαλέκτου, αυτή είναι μία συλλογή που διαβάζεται πολύ εύκολα και γρήγορα. Μικρές ιστορίες, οι περισσότερες από κοινούς θνητούς και όχι από εκδομένους συγγραφείς, που ήταν ενδιαφέρουσες ή και συγκινητικές κάποιες φορές.

This is a collection of varied reminiscences. I particularly liked the one about the ceilidh, and the one about c,imbing Clachnaben

I always look forward to the annual collection. I did find with the theme I feel I am reading the same writer. However, I did particularly like 'TheSeeds of Our Home" and "Spellbound".

I enjoyed the short little stories. It was a fun and quick read.

A lovely wee collection of (very) short stories and poems with Scotland as the link. Some funny, some sad, some good, some not too bad, some surprisingly moving for their length.
