Kehinde Wiley's portraits of African-American men combine elements of hip-hop culture with an Old Master's influence. From French Rococo to today's urban street, the paintings in Passing/Posing incorporate a range of art historical and vernacular styles, thus collapsing history and style into Wiley's unique contemporary vision. This limited edition, designed by the artist to accompany his solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, is presented in box format with 24 tassel-bound pages of text including scholarly essays, 18 unbound color reproductions of Wiley's works, the artist's source and reference material, and a pair of white cotton gloves. Wiley has signed and numbered each copy as a limited edition. Essays by Tumelo Musaka, Franklin Sirmans and Greg Tate. Other, 9 x 12 in./24 pgs / 18 color and 8 b&w.
