Christian is beginning to wonder if the problem is him.

His ex is getting married, his other ex is dating someone else, and his blind date has the flu. With no one else to turn to, and desperate not to look perpetually single in front of the man who broke his heart, Christian invites his casual hook-up to the wedding.

Then his mother’s assistant demands that he spy on him, or else they’ll close the children’s center he directs immediately.

Seth is beginning to unravel.

After a devastating betrayal, Seth has had to rebuild every inch of his life. Where he once had countless zeros in his bank account, he’s now sharing an apartment with a nosy ex-boyfriend and counting every penny just to get by.

When Christian invites him to a wedding and offers to pay, he reluctantly accepts. (His daughter needs money for her DnD club, after all.) But what starts as an awkward affair grows even stranger when Seth realizes that their parents are political enemies, and that their meetings might not have been as fated as he thought.

Are they falling in love or falling apart?

Neither knows for sure. But even as their trust in one another erodes, their passion for each other still burns. Can they work together to rebuild their fledgling trust? Or will everything they have burn to ash?

Could’ve been a cute love story, but turned out just plain and boring.

The characters didn’t have much depth to them, and the spice was very emotionless. I felt nothing while reading this — no connection to the MCs, no happiness when they got together, no hotness during the spice. Nada.

The smut wasn’t as detailed as one would expect with BDSM, most of the sex scenes were very short and straight to the climax. In other words, not enjoyable and, again, boring. Like, if you’re going to put in a flogging scene you cannot just brush over it in one sentence. What’s the point?

The writing also didn’t really flow right. The POV would switch between the characters from one paragraph to the next, making it difficult to follow along and get in their heads.
It was all very skimmable and bland.

This story was interesting because both MCs have parents running for political office as opponents. Christian’s mother wants him to spy on Seth, a hook-up in an exclusive club, and Seth is doing everything he can to avoid the media after a huge expose a few years ago upended his life, making him pretty paranoid. The two have tremendous chemistry, but both are leery of publicity that could impact their parents’ campaigns. They keep meeting in unexpected ways, leading to an on-again off-again relationship. The question is, can they escape parental influence enough to have what they want with each other.
This is a short novella told from dual POV, with some natural and some awkward situations. There is some angst, but mostly two characters trying to find a way to make a complicated situation work, and a HFN ending.

It is such a shame when the manipulating machinations of others intrudes on what started as a hot interlude but really had the potential to turn into more. If there were not meddlers who make it hard to trust what they might have together. Both Christian and Seth find themselves pawns in their families political shenanigans. They try to navigate the minefields and come out on the other side still trying to find their footing but still doing okay. I would like to read more about these two.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were likeable and believable. I liked the political setting which created some difficulties for the characters as it added another element to each characters background. I would definitely be interested in reading about some the other couples that came up in the story.

Another great book from Hadley. I really enjoyed this book and found all the characters endearing and realistic. Great word building and storyline that has a political setting. So much angst and the passion between them helps them overcome their trust issues. Some great secondary characters as well that i hope we see again.

“Believe me, I want. But what good does wanting do? There’s a real world out there-"

This was an interesting read. I liked the premise of the two of them being sons to opposing political enemies. What was real and what was fake to try and get information? I really liked both Seth and Christian and the chemistry between them. But with political machinations interfering in their relationship, can they last? I enjoyed this book. 4 stars.

MM novella

When Christian’s mother tells him to seduce the son of her competitor in the elections he’s shocked to find out it’s Seth who he had already hooked up with but he refuses to bow to her demands. I enjoyed this short MM romance Seth & Christian pushed and pulled not really knowing what either wanted until Seth realised he’d made a mistake and set out to rectify it .

On the Fence

This isn't an easy story for me to rate. Overall, it isn't a bad story. There were just things throughout that didn't work well with the rest of the story.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

I really liked this book. Who knew just how scummy politics can get.

This is the second book that I have read from Hadley and I hope they continue to write.
