Miracles from Mayhem: The story of May Nicholson

Rate this book
May Nicholson was a notorious fighting drunk in Ferguslie Park, Paisley until her conversion when she was 34. The last 22 years have been spend tirelessly working for the Lord as an outreach worker in Ferguslie Park, Church of Scotland Project Worker in Mid Craigie (a deprived area of Dundee) and now in Govan where she founded the Preshal (Gaelic for precious) Trust.

May's biography reads as though she is telling her story and is interspersed by accounts and comments from other people. Her story is so incredible that it needs other people to verify what she says; one of May's doctors, a minister, those who come to the Preshal Trust and The Duchess of Montrose all help to tell this compelling story.

I lost this for a while so its taken me a while to finish it! It really could be read very quickly. It's a great book about May's beginnings and her saving by God and her calling to do His work in very deprived areas of Scotland. Just like the second book (which yes I read first as it was a gift) it's full of people she meets along with their stories as well as the work she felt Jesus equipping her to do. Another great and inspiring book.

May's story is familiar to me. I know how poor families in Scotland can be and I know how alcoholism is a big problem. I've known people who've had to deal with the same issues. I've also known people who have been converted to God and the difference it can make in their lives.

What's different about this story is that May really got involved to bring a difference to other people's lives. She's very inspirational.
