This short collection contains: "Free Agents," a satire concerning collective bargaining; "This Land is Meyerland," more essay than story, it explores post-war suburbanization and the built environment; and "Safe At Home," a short story about race and generational differences within a family.
"Free Agents," while amusing and clever, stretched the joke out a bit too long for my taste. "This Land is Meyerland" had some keen insights. "Safe At Home" was definitely the strongest piece in the collection.
The language and some of the cultural references might seem a bit dated to contemporary readers, but overall this was a good collection and worth a read.
