When Catrina Jackson ducked into her hotel's jazz bar, all she wanted was a chance to unwind after a long drive and a drink to soothe the disappointment of being stood up by the friend she'd come to see. She figured the massive diamond wedding set on her finger would deter any would be attractors. She was wrong. When also married hunky Darius Cornelio suggested they sit together to avoid unwanted attention, she thought it was a great idea. His presence protected her from other men in the bar, but...

I'll be the lone dissenter here. I thought the writing was choppy, the pacing was horrible, and the punctuation was all over the place. I could have lived with it until Spyro Gyra was spelled wrong. That's not a mistake a jazz freak should make. Anyhoo...I was willing to go along with it until, at the 1/3 point, I figured out they were married and playing a game.
Look, games are great. I like those stories. But the fact is, the heroine's internal dialogue was not deceitful enough to keep you from guessing. She referred to him as a stranger--but she didn't give any of the other strangers the right time of day. She acquiesced to his lame lines too easily. She should have been doing some mental contortions like a real person would have had to do to keep up the game without giggling. (Which, considering he didn't recognize her because of the weight loss and his frequent military absences, it would have been better told from his point of view.)
I know this is a long review for the 14-pages-then-skipped-to-the-end-to-see-if-I-was-right that I actually read, but it had such potential. The unreliable narrator was not well done and, well, I was kinda hoping the author would go there with an actual affair because THAT would have been shocking.

Well written. Though I had it figured out almost immediately. Very similar to another short story that I read about a year ago or so. I can't remember the name of the book or the author, but it is very similar.
The ending was good and the story was really good. I really loved how it all played out.
This one kept me guessing, I was a little worried since both parties were married. The ending was so sweet. Adding Ms. Wynn to my must read author list.
I will make this short and sweet. I had a feeling of the ending, but I was getting a little concerned because it was dragging out a little bit. When I say dragging out, I don’t mean that in a bad way. I simply mean that sometimes the wording made you feel like it was some thing else then what it turned out to be….what I hoped it would be. It was a great twist; I loved the story. I am new to this author and I am fast becoming hooked on her books. Great story please read it. See y’all next time.
I loved Darius and Cat, that was really a great read. I was really hoping he was her husband, because they were so great together. I would absolutely, definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoy reading an interesting love story you will not regret it. Great story Zena please keep these interesting stories coming. Thank you.
Cat and Darius meet at the bar in a lounge attached to their hotel. They are both married and decide to spend the evening together as protection against potential persistent suitors. Slowly the illicit attraction between them builds as the night wears on. Loved the twist at the end.
I can't say anything without spoiling it. It's a short, enjoyable read...for her or for him. I know one thing for sure, it's the fantasy of this reader. Very well written.
Great book! I really enjoyed this book! And was very pleasantly surprised by the ending. I really love this writer and like the way her books have twists or issues and questions you would never think about!
I have read this story before, I can't remember the original name but it was still a sweet read. I was hoping Cat would hit the blonde but someone must be an adult I guess
Omg... This was so cute... At first I was like wtf.... Are these two married ppl sleeping around. Then as I realized they were doing role play... Good read
That was fun, nicely played. I got annoyed at some point with Cat's dilemma, and not having Darius point of view, so I skipped over and then retreated back. Enjoyed then.
As many times as I have re-read this on my kindle my review should have long been submitted. This one is a keeper with that you will read multiple times. I wont rehash the story or give away the ending but this story was extremely hot without being raunchy. You feel the sexual tension with each paragraph and you are drawn in by the "Will she or won't she question?!" The hero is sizzling! Just keep in mind to never judge a book by the back cover because the premise may be just what the doctor ordered! This is a must read!
starting the book and finding out both parties are married had me guessing as to where it was going. as i got further the guessing game i was playing was not even close to how it played out. maybe it is something married couples could do to spice up the marriage. i started reading it at 6:00am and had to find out how it would end
This was a shorty. A quick little novella that was also sexy and well written. Two married people meet in a bar and enter a deal to pretend to be with each other to stave off being hit upon. They chat and enjoy each other's company all the while growing more and more attracted to each other as the night wears on. I enjoyed the set-up, the dialogue and the denouement very much. Nice surprise.
This book was awesome. Kept me guessing. I found myself hoping for the characters to end up together. This book was shot but did not disappoint. Cudos to the author, I will be following.
I have read this before. It was great to read it again. Role playing to spice up the marriage sounds like fun. At first you are not sure but in the end it's a hot, sexy read. I give it 4 stars.
This was a really good short story. I was so into the characters and wanting them to be good that I missed the hints that were dropped letting the reader know that all was not as it appeared.
Some of us dream of going to a bar meeting a handsome stranger who sweeps you off your feet, and living happily ever after. This interracial romance with a twist is a great read.
