This collection of teachings from A. W. Tozer, revered preacher of the 20th century, offers insight into the major issues that plague our Christian life today. Tozer shakes us out of complacency and lukewarmness with his deep conviction in the wisdom of God. Some of the topics covered - Ignoring the enemy - Self-trust and self-will - Artificial preaching - A playground attitude toward Christianity - The lack of Christlikeness - Diminished joy of the Second Coming
Aiden Wilson Tozer was an American evangelical pastor, speaker, writer, and editor. After coming to Christ at the age of seventeen, Tozer found his way into the Christian & Missionary Alliance denomination where he served for over forty years. In 1950, he was appointed by the denomination's General Council to be the editor of "The Alliance Witness" (now "Alliance Life").
Born into poverty in western Pennsylvania in 1897, Tozer died in May 1963 a self-educated man who had taught himself what he missed in high school and college due to his home situation. Though he wrote many books, two of them, "The Pursuit of God" and "The Knowledge of the Holy" are widely considered to be classics.
A.W. Tozer and his wife, Ada Cecelia Pfautz, had seven children, six boys and one girl.
Tower was able to pinpoint with accuracy concerns in Christondom, I.e, the lack spiritual hunger and thirst in one's personal life for intimacy with Christ; being spoon fed instead of seeking God for one's self. I was blessed and challenged to press on to maturity in Christ. This book is not for the casual reader.
The church of this generation needs a loud wake up call. This book is that call. It is not so important the ways and customs of our church’s as our passion for our Savior. Do we just say the right words when in church or are we in love with the Head of the church? We need to get back to true religion because there a judgment ahead of all of us.
Incredible read. Even if just to read the last chapter, get this book. If you've ever wondered why you went to church, get this book. This book focuses mainly on our internal thoughts and how they drive (or dont) our external actions. Whoever paid to reprint this book at such a affordable price, thank you, and may God bless you.
Tozer gets at the heart of things so succinctly. This book is not just aimed at preachers or the church but at each of us individually who make up the body of Christ. This will convict you. For many, these are areas few consider. We need to think on these things more. Highly recommend for every believer in Christ.
Almost in the nature of John’s concerns for the churches in the Revelation, Tozer, convincingly, shares his concerns for the church today and how to realign in good health. Timely, thoughtful, and therapeutic, he gives us a corrective way forward to be the Bride of Christ.
This book was convicting! I think reading books written in an earlier era are interesting to compare to the modern day church. Toser gives a laundry list of things for evaluation as believers in the modern world. Good book and 99 cents on kindle!!
