For a thirteen-year-old Irish slave named Callum McCarthy, Colonial America is a land of never-ending cruelty. Emotional and eye-opening, JR Thompson’s Infuriated plunges deep into hidden atrocities from the seventeenth-century including everything from racism to horrific physical abuse.
Continuing where Brutalized left off, Callum learns that the Gillcrest plantation was far more pleasant than he had realized. Master Levi Stone and his mulatto overseers take great delight in harassing and beating up white slaves, but that’s not what bothers the lad. It's his suspicion that Master Levi Stone might be hiding his true identity. Seeking the truth could prove not only dangerous but painful.
Suspense, horror, anguish, and malicious sadism permeate Infuriated as Thompson shares realities of white slavery from Ireland to the English Colonies. Callum’s strength and determination has the power to shake things up at the Stone plantation, but that will only happen if Master Levi Stone and the mulattos fail in their efforts to break his will.
Authentic Dialogue Needed Again ! And Finish Your Book Please!
First, this author really needs to research Irish immigrant speech patterns, African immigrant speech patterns, mulatto speech patterns, Colonial American speech patterns and maybe look at how how authors have dealt with German immigrant speech patterns because his was incredibly distracting. His entire lack of research on the subject of using authentic dialogue suitable to the time period of his story is fairy abysmal.
Second, I know he plans to write a sequel but even a novel in a sequel needs a closure better than than the one he supplied! Yes, leave the reader wanting to read the next book but don't leave them infuriated that the chapter wasn't even finished!
On the upside, the author gives us insight into Irish slavery, a Christian perspective of hope, and a great storyline!
This book was amazing, this is the 2nd.book in the series. It sure had me turning the pages, faster and faster. Callum, was purchased by a new slave master, more vicious, than he ever thought possible & renamed. He was called Finney. At first, Finney thought his new master, was a long lost uncle, whom he hadn't seen in yrs.as he walked, talked and even looked enough like him, that they could have been twins. But,he soon realized, that just couldn't be true,as no kin of his could ever be this vicious. Almost everyday, there were severe beatings, over nothing,as the three that were overseers delighted in nothing less. It seemed like every friend,Finney made left him by running away or dying. This book, left a real cliffhanger. So,please, JR Thompson, hurry with series #3.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Infuriated by J.R. Thompson picked up where Brutalized left off. The novel is riveting, though it has very little happiness. Cullen is now known as Finney and has been sold to the brutal Master Levi Stone. Master Stone is violent to the max—whippings, burnings, and beatings are common occurrences. The deaths are immense. We find out who William and Lying Jane are—spoiler alert, so I won’t tell. It ends with the hope that Cullen’s (Finney) little sister is still alive.
The plot, characters, and scenes are excellently crafted. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. However, I’ll need more tissues! Five stars.
Infuriated grabbed my attention and kept me reading late into the night. I wanted to stay up all night but had medical appointments early this morning so I had to turn off the lights with a promise to myself that I would finish after my appointment was completed. I like to have something to read while I wait anyway. Just let me say, I was not disappointed. I cannot wait to read part 3 of this series this afternoon and evening.
This book and series is horrendous. There is no plot but instead page after page of brutality. The verbiage is childish and not indicative of the 17th century. Once in awhile, the author throws in some fundamentalist Christian rhetoric while completing ignoring the Catholic heritage of the Irish, white slaves by making them out as heathens. Just an awful read.
Strange how history tries to remove items from the past. Indentured slaves were tortured and abused. Captured persons were made slaves. I am glad that I didn't live then. Very well written. Would have a 5 star but open ended books get 4 stars. I must go buy the next one! Can't wait!
This horrific story makes you cringe and ache! But it’s well worth the read! Now we have to wait until book 3 comes out. I hope it not like the miniseries Victoria where they never finished the rest of it. Please don’t leave us hanging forever! Lol! Love the story! Excellent author and storyteller! ❤️📖📖❤️
I enjoyed this one from start to finish. I am missing a lot of people in my life that are Irish and trying to find something else. Thank for your book.I look forward to the next one
A great story that gives a glimpse into the forgotten stories never told. I highly recommend reading both books. I hope the author keeps writing this series.
