2.5'tan 3 puan verdiğim bir kitap. Çocukların yaşadıklarını okumak eğlenceliydi ancak yazarların daha önce orijinal hikayeleri okuyup okumadıklarını sorguladığım birçok sahne vardı. Hem Holmes hem Watson -ki özellikle Watson- orijinal hikayelerden uzaktaydı. İlk kitapta Watson portresini hasır altı edip 4 puan versem de bu kitapta çocukları öne çıkarmak için daha bir abartı vardı.
Bunun dışında, özellikle bir çocuk kitabı söz konusuyken, yayım sırasında ne redaksiyon ne edisyon yapıldığının ortada oluşu çok üzücü olmakla birlikte okumayı da zorlaştırıyordu.
Öte taraftan, sırf Ozzy etrafında dönen ana hikayenin devamını öğrenmek için serinin kalan iki kitabının da çevrilmesini isterdim.

eh...not exactly impressed. The idea behind this series is great (who wouldn't want books focusing on the Baker Street Irregulars?) but honestly, I'm not super keen on the overall "feel" of the books, considering the original stories. It's been awhile (that is, a couple years) since I read the first book, but I do remember a lot of spiritualism in that one, too, and while technically the supposed supernatural "crimes" are just tricks, there seems to be a lot of telling fortunes and palm reading and whatnot that's not really explained.
Also, how was Elsa NOT arrested for wearing trousers in the 1880s? Another thirty years or so and she might have gotten away with it, but that was not how the majority of suffragettes dressed back then. It would have been considered indecent and landed her in jail, probably.
Also, I'm not totally crazy on the book's portrayal of Watson.
Anyway, I didn't hate it, but I couldn't quite make myself give it a full two stars, either.
Postscript- I will admit I was actually really curious about Ozzie's dad, but didn't want to commit to reading the other books, so I looked it up. Well, well, PLOT TWIST. That is, I think it's more implied that actually said, but it was an interesting twist. I'll give the writers that. ;)

"Gun....! " Wanita malang itu mengucapkan kata-kata terakhirnya, hanya sesaat sebelum ia terjatuh dari kursinya.
Dalam sebuah upacara pemanggilan arwah yang spektakuler, Greta Berlinger, seorang janda kaya mendadak tewas! Upacara yang semula bertujuan memanggilan arwah sang suami justru berakhir dengan kematian. Elsa Hoff sang keponakan, satu-satunya kerabat yang tersisa merasa tak tenang setelah meninggalkan sang Bibi. Dia merasa terancam! Untuk pertama kalinya Sherlock Holmes akan berhadapan dengan dunia supranatural, arwah, serta peramal dengan bola kristalnya. Sherlock Holmes tidak bisa hanya mengandalkan "sel-sel kelabunya" bekerja. Ia membutuhkan bantuan di dunia nyata, ia membutuhkan bantuan Laskar Jalanan Baker Street!
Laskar Jalanan Baker Street merupakan sebutan bagi sekumpulan anak-anak yang tak berorang tua yang tinggal di jalanan. Mereka dipimpin oleh Wiggins didampingi sahabatnya Ozzie. Bagi Wiggins yang menarik di dunia ini hanyalah makanan serta tawaran dari Mr Holmes (biasa ia menyebut Sherlock Holmes ) untuk menangani sebuah kasus. Laskar Jalanan Baker Street tinggal disebuah kastel, sebuah kompleks bangunan pabrik kereta kuda yang telah lama ditinggalkan pemiliknya.
Sherlock Holmes membayar mereka shilling sehari (ditambah biaya-biaya lain) serta bonus satu guinea untuk petunjuk penting. Kemampuan mereka dalam membantu Sherlock Holmes sudah tidak diragukan lagi. Apalagi dengan kenyataan sebagian dari mereka adalah anak-anak yang sering tidak diperhatikan keberadaannya. Laskar ini berkeliaran dengan bebas dimana saja. Mereka mampu memasuki tempat-tempat yang tak bisa dimasuki orang dewasa. Mereka mendapat informasi yang tak bisa didapat orang dewasa. Kecerdikan dan kemampuan berpikir mereka juga terpacu menjadi selaras dengan sang boss, Sherlock Holmes. Tengok saja kalimat dalam buku ini, "Tidak ada tindakan heroik kali ini anak-anak. Pekerjaan kita kali ini harus sesuai dengan metodeku. " Laskar Jalanan Baker Street merupakan aset bagi Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes juga sangat mempercayai mereka. Berdasarkan informasi yang dikumpulkan oleh para anggota Laskar Jalanan, Sherlock Holmes memecahkan sebuah masalah dengan mudah. Dalam kasus ini, ternyata tidaklah sesederhana yang tanpak dari luar. Kematian Greta Berlinger ternyata berkaitan dengan kisah cinta, tambang emas, anak haram dan kenangan di masa lalu. Banyak kejutan yang mengiringi terungkapnya misteri ini,
Bagi saya buku ini cukuplah sebagai obat rasa rindu akan kisah-kisah Sherlock Holmes. Tapi dibandingkan dengan buku klasiknya, kisahnya jauh lebih ringan. Kita sudah bisa menebak ke mana arah cerita ini akan mengalir. Pamer ilmu deduksi ala Sherlock Holmes juga teramat minim. Jika ingin menojolkan kisah Laskar Jalanan Baker Street dengan segala kemampuannya, upaya itu terasa belum maksimal.
Sherlock Holmes merupakan sosok detektif fiktif berkebangsaan Inggris ciptaan Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Ia terkenal akan kemampuan deduksinya dan kepandaiannya dalam memecahkan kasus. Sherlock Holmes menyebut dirinya "detektif konsultan". Yaitu orang yang dimintai tolong dalam suatu kasus terutama saat kasus tersebut dianggap terlalu sulit untuk dipecahkan polisi dan detektif lain (beberapa kisah menunjukkan kliennya justru dari pihak Kepolisian setempat). Pengamatannya yang tajam sering mengagumkan para klien barunya, apalagi Sherlock Holmes tanpa rasa segan sering memamerkan kemampuannya itu. Klien yang semula ragu akan langsung berubah pikiran! "Holmes" dinamakan atas Oliver Wendell Holmes yang sangat dikagumi oleh Conan Doyle, dan atas atlet kriket Inggris yang bernama Sherlock.

So I didn't care for this story as much as I did the first one. While I was happy about the "plot-twist" with Pilar and her mother, the continued theme of trying to meld the supernatural with Sherlock Holmes is very annoying and in my opinion insulting to the original.
Another insult to the original is the portrayal of Watson, which is even worse than in the first story. In this one, Watson is shown as a glory-hog, who hates the irregulars and is an idiot. I honestly think this is what bothers me the most. I can't decide if the authors simply can't stand Watson or if they haven't actually read the original books, because his character is terribly off.
I did like this story and I am going to be continuing the series; the mystery was believable and the irregulars are very likable; however, this book could have been so much better.

Like the last book, the thing that upsetted me the most was the treatment of Watson, a bit less visible here.
However, I enjoyed reading this one better than the last. Ozzie pleased me immensely in this one, showing off in front of Holmes. And once again, Pilar was a badass.

This book was definitely better than the first story-wise, but I had so many gripes with it I wouldn't dare give it any higher than 2 stars. I'm not gonna go through all of them, but the major ones that stuck out to me were:
- Watson being so dumb he doesn't know how to use a key?! I had to take a break after reading that. I swear to god I felt my brain grind to a halt in trying to understand how that could even be possible which lead me once again questioning what Watson ever did to the authors to deserve such treatment 🙃
- The change of POV randomly to show us how every character feels about something (an issue in the first book as well). It's unnecessary to me. If you want to have a multi-POV story, do what Rick Riordan does, for example, and have each chapter belong to a different character, not a mishmash.
- Encouraging the potential use of yellow/brown/black face in the "Art of Disguise" section. I hope I don't have to explain why this is messed up. This kind of ignorance is harmful and definitely not something they should be giving tips for, even if the intent is ""pure"".
So, yeah, overall, not good, but a better written story than the previous at least?

Für junge Sherlock Holmes Fans ist dieses Buch sehr geeignet. Es lässt sich schnell und einfach lesen, es ist eine spannende Geschichte mit Charakteren, mit denen man mitfühlt und mitfiebert, den Bösewicht das Handwerk zu legen. Auch der anyonyme Verfasser und wer dahinter steckt, macht Lust darauf, alle Bände zu lesen um zu erfahren, wer denn nun die Geschichten der Bande dokumentiert hat.
Als Erwachsene war für mich etwa ab der Hälfte des Buches klar, wohin die Geschichte geht, nichtsdestotrotz hat es Spaß gemacht den Weg mit den Charakteren zu gehen und Ozzies Schlussfolgerung zu sehen.

Asombroso libro en todo lo relacionado con la imagen: bellas ilustraciones y descripciones. Pero se me hace imposible omitir que el contenido mas profundo pudo ser mucho mejor tomando en cuenta que usan como base al gran Sherlock Holmes.

Very fun! I love a good faked séance plot.
Alfie’s obsession with the dog and him clearly being a small child was so funny in this one. Not much in the way of overarching plot, but there is more to do with Ozzie’s family mystery.

C'est péniblement que j'ai réussi à trouver les deux autres tomes de cette petite collection jeunesse (T2 et 3).
En fait, il m'a fallu plus de temps pour les trouver que pour les lire puisque les 180 pages se lisent très vite.
Pas de regrets de mon achat et de ma lecture. Certes, c'est de la littérature jeunesse, c'est assez simple niveau écriture et scénario, pourtant, j'ai passé des bons moments détente lors de ma lecture.
Cette série met en avant ce que, dans le canon holmésien, Sherlock Holmes nomme "The Baker Street Irregulars" * (Les Irréguliers de Baker Street ou Francs-tireurs de Baker Street).
Pour votre info culturelle, il s'agissait d'un groupe de gamins des rues qui secondaient parfois Holmes dans ses enquêtes en se rendant un peu partout dans Londres, en posant des questions, ou en suivant les suspects. Leur chef était Wiggins.
Dans cette série, on les nomme "Les Mouches". Wiggins est bien là et il est secondé par Osgood (Ozzie) et une dizaine d'autres gamins et, bien entendu, ils sont plus présent que le grand Sherlock Holmes, même si le Maître, comme ils le nomment, n'est jamais très loin.

Malgré tout, les livres abordent la misère qui régnait dans certains quartiers mal famés et la vie, pas rose, des enfants qui y vivaient. Mais sans appesantir sur la chose non plus.
Holmes, bien que peu présent, est conforme à l'original tandis que Watson, dans ce tome, m'a paru en retrait et fort benêt dans ses attitudes et ses paroles. de plus, à un moment donné, il tutoie Holmes. Coquille dans la traduction ?
Ce ne serait pas la première puisque, page 147, on parle de "une voix [sic] de communication particulièrement fréquentée" au lieu de "une voie". Les voies de la correction orthographique sont impénétrables… J'en ai perdu ma voix.
Malgré tout, il y a beaucoup de tendresse et d'amitié entre ces gamins, même si de toute la bande, quelques uns émergent vraiment, les autres étant plutôt laissés dans l'ombre.
Un agréable petit roman policier victorien sur fond de spiritisme et d'escroquerie monumentale.
À lire pour un moment de détente.

Novel ini adalah seri kedua setelah seri yang pertama berjudul "Misteri Kematian Bintang Sirkus". Novel ini menceritakan tentang kisah petualangan menegangkan Sherlock Holmes dan laskar jalanan baker street (kaki tangannya dalam memecahkan kasus rumit). Bermula pada kematian Greta Berlinger yang penuh dengan tanda tanya setelah pemanggilan arwah suami nya lalu Elsa Hoff keponakannya meminta Sherlock Holmes dan laskarnya untuk menyelesaikan teka-teki ini. Setelah melakukan penyelidikan bukti-bukti dan melakukan pengawasan di rumah Konstantine (si pemanggil arwah / mediator, (Laskar Jalanan) mereka melakukan pembagian tugas. Mereka terus melakukan pengintaian, mereka terlibat kontak dan pengejaran terhadap komplotan penjahat didaerah berbahaya rawan kejahatan. mereka bertukar informasi dengan Sherlock Holmes, konflik memuncak banyak trik,taktik yang digunakan dalam kasus ini, terjadi insiden berbahaya, menguras akal, emosi, dan tenaga. Disamping itu, tersaji terselipkan berbagai kisah salah satunya pengorbanan Ozzie yang rela menunda pencarian orang tuanya untuk memecahkan kasus" rumit bersama laskar Jalanan Baker Street.

Banyak nilai-nilai keteladanan, pengorbanan, kekeluargaan, inspiratif, metode penelusuran deduktif pengungkapan detail analisis saintik seni penyamaran yang semua itu dapat membuka mengembangkan lebih jauh pola berpikir kita, mengajarkan kita bahwa kita tidak dapat hidup sendiri di dunia ini, menurut saya cocok untuk penggemar cerita kriminal, pemikiran detektif dan cocok untuk semua umur, Ceritanya sangat mendetail membuat kita serasa ikut menjadi saksi bisu petualangan tsb.

Banyaknya tokoh dan konflik yang tersaji dalam Novel ini yang sulit dipahami oleh orang awam jika tidak fokus kedalam cerita. Normally I don't select books that are written for the "juvenile" or YA shelves. But often the books are excellent. When I was young, I liked a series by Lloyd Alexander. Later I thought the "Lucky Starr" books written by Issac Asimov (as "Paul French") were ok. As an adult I read the first six by "Lemony Snickett" which I though were very good and of course J. K. Rowling's series gets accolades from every quarter. And only a few days ago I read a book on Chinese tales intended for a young audience that I liked. This just a long way of saying that I did not have any preconceived notions about the quality or "level" of writing I would find in this book.
On the whole I found the book to be well-written. I don't think it rates a "4.0", but definitely a "3.0" and maybe "3.5".
There is a lot of emphasis on the young characters which is not unreasonable given the target audience. This is the second book in the series and although I did not read the first one the relationships and links developed in the first one are explained here without the heavy-handed approach often used by series writers. The relevant information is presented in a natural way given the plot of the second (this) book.
as far as the actual mystery goes, the kids get to discover most of the key facts with one even performing the normal ratinocentric deductions and exposition of the "Master" (i.e. Sherlock Holmes). I found it to be a pretty decent tale overall and am happy to recommed it to others.

Tracy Mackin ja Michael Citrinin "Noidutun miehen tapaus" (Gummerus, 2010) jatkaa Baker Streetin Iskuryhmä -sarjaa ollen samalla sen viimeinen suomeksi käännetty osa. Kirjassa joukko lontoolaisia orpopoikia auttaa mestarisalapoliisia ratkaisemaan rikosta, jonka takana ovat spiritistisiä istuntoja järjestävät huijarit (luulenpa, ettei Arthur Conan Doyle olisi innostunut kamalasti tämmöisestä juonikuviosta).

I adore this series! The Original Characters (especially the core BSI group!) are wonderful and I'd happily read books and books on each character alone. The treatment of Billy, Wiggins, and the Canon gang is brilliant excepting for poor, mistreated Watson. I really hope to see the good doctor given fairer assessment in later books, for I am, above all things, a Dr. John Watson fangirl.
Overall, however, this is a wonderful series. I'm well above the intended age bracket, but I adore curling up with one of these babies an hour or two before bed. I smile, laugh, moan, cry, and gasp my way through from cover to cover and then rush to this site to give a billion stars.

La segunda entrada en la serie de los Irregulares de Baker Street, esta es otra sólida historia de misterio protagonizada por el grupo de los Irregulares. Holmes es aquí un personaje aún más secundario que en la primera entrega, lo que no representa en realidad un problema, ya que eso le da más espacio a los Irregulares para desarrollar sus personalidades. Ozzie, Wiggins, y la española Pilar siguen siendo los principales.
Totalmente recomendable, aunque es una lástima que el artista gráfico no está a la altura del tomo anterior. Aunque las ilustraciones siguen siendo muy buenas, el Holmes de este tomo tiene poco que ver con la descripción canónica, que tan bien se captó en el tomo anterior.
Espero con ansia tener en mis manos el tercer tomo, "En busca de Watson".

Another exciting case from the files the Baker street Irregulars. Though this case wasn't quite as exciting as the first book. First of all the story felt shorter and the solution felt a little forced. Though there was more Watson in this one which is good and I did enjoy the adventures that the Kids engaged in. Though all told this felt more like a "you meddling kids!" cartoon than a Sherlock Mystery. The Kids even had a dog.

I enjoy this series because they are short enough to read in one setting. I also think it makes Victorian England accessible to children. I don't love how every other paragraph jumps 3rd person perspective. I think it has the effect of distancing the reader from the characters, which I'm sure is opposite the intent.

My library have a paperback version of this cover. I don't know if this is because of that version but it was missing the illustrations that the first book had. Also missing from this book was the interactions between the other boys, Wiggins didn't seem the same in this book (might have been because Ozzy was leaving to find his Aunt). It just didn't feel the same like in the first book.

This was a good mystery if you like Sherlock Holmes and easier to solve than the originals, so more accessible to younger kids.

This is a great series for children, especially if they've graduated from Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys books and like a more sophisticated mystery.
