Breaking up with her tough greaser boyfriend, Danny, after he breaks up a high-society party, rich girl Robin Anderson is alarmed when her wealthy friends start getting killed off and fears that Danny is out for ultimate revenge. Original.
The blurb on the back is actually quite a little misleading on the actual plot of the book, but it didn't make it any less enjoyable. The only thing that kept me from giving it five stars is that I figured out the twist quickly.
Robin Anderson is a rich girl with a doctor father, and she has been going out with Skip Chesterton for so long that it has become so boring to her. This is her last year of high school and over Christmas vacation, Skip gave her a "pre-engagement" ring to the delight of her parents since Skip's dad is a ship builder.
Yet Skip is an arrogant jerky jock who looks down on anyone not up to his level and treats Robin like his property. He even made Robin have to end her friendship with her bestie Paige since he is so insufferable.
Robin notices that one of the other young men in school is a little more interesting.
Danny Kovack is the son of a diner owner who lives in Pitney Docks and has a bad boy reputation, but he saves Robin from being hassled by some jerk and proves to be far more charming than Skip.
In English class, the teacher tries to embarrass Robin when Danny tries to pas her a note by bringing up his less than average performance in class and roping Robin into tutoring him. Undaunted, Robin accepts and even when Danny tells her she doesn't have to go through with it...she doesn't back down.
Skip isn't pleased with this, but he isn't the only one because a girl named Doreen whom Danny hangs out with notices how Danny stares at Robin. Standing up for herself, Robin hangs out with Paige after a school hockey game and then breaks up with Skip in front of his friends, Danny and Doreen.
Robin soon begins dating Danny while a girl on the volleyball team named Candy who was her frenemy and had a big crush on Skip says the two of them started going out as well. Skip apologizes for being a jerk and agrees to a truce with Danny.
Everything goes fine until a Valentine's Day dance at the high society country club and Robin is forced to end her relationship with Danny.
Soon after the incident, a body is found in the Central Academy shower where the cause of death seems to be suicide. Or is it really?
To tell anything else would spoil the book completely and it doesn't make the climax any less harrowing or heartbreaking knowing the reveal. Breaking Up has an ending with a silver lining to keep it from being a complete downer with its satisfactory conclusion.
I know I said I was done re-reading Terror Academies (since they are not nearly as good as I remember) but nostalgia hit me hard while I was sick and made me request some from Interlibrary Loan again.
I actually remembered this one as soon as I started it, but I do think "whodunnit" is totally obvious even without me remembering it. Still, it was a fun little trip down memory lane.
For some reason I really liked this Terror Academy book. We start the book with senior Robin, another model looking beautiful girl, who is dating Skip athlete and all around popular guy. I mean with a name like Skip you have to be a douche at I right lol. Also Skip had given Robin a pre engagement ring. That’s just barf like so many of these high school kids are so in love and already think about marriage so gross. Anyways Robin has grown tired of Skips controlling ways and has grown bored and out of love. She is drawn to Danny, a rough guy from the poor part of town. She can’t get him out of her mind. So Robin starts doing a lot of things Skip doesn’t approve of like rekindling her friendship with Paige and tutoring Danny. Then the inevitable happens and she breaks up with Skip and starts dating Danny. At first Skip freaks out then he accepts it and even becomes friendly with Robin and Danny. It all comes to a drastic event at the Valentine’s Day dance when all of a sudden Danny changes from a sweet and respectful guy and goes crazy and destroys the dance. So Robin breaks up with Danny and tells him she wants nothing to do with him and Skip thinks this is his chance to get back with Robin. Of course Robin doesn’t want to be with Skip, and things just start going from bad to worse. People start dying notes are left for Robin and all of this points to Danny. While the twist of the book was very obvious it was a fun and quick read. I really enjoyed this book.
Just light relationship drama involving a rich girl and a not-so-rich boy for about 130pgs.
And then they go to the Valentine’s Day dance at the club and he causes a scene bc he’s hopped up on Angel Dust, which, for some reason is the catalyst for the sudden change in tone from drama to horror.
A dead body is discovered, as well as a couple of standard valentine’s-themed threats.
It really doesn’t get too exciting until they get to the mountains to go skiing.
I do love a dramatic snowmobile chase and frozen lake moment.
Predictable and not too scary, but it deserves extra credit for the teens inexplicably talking like 50s greasers and hurling silly insults at each other.

Mostly tension teen drama. You know, girl falls in love with unpopular guy, fights, jealousy, and relationship problems. It's still an interesting story that I want to know how the main character's relationship will go next.
However, the horror aspect comes at half of the book so if you just want to go straight to where bad things happen to main character. Don't look into this. The horror aspect was at least diverting but a little weak. The killer, sadly, can be easily guessed since there's not much red herrings.
The book is far from worst as horror but is average for making the horror aspect come a little late.
