I had never before this book considered how many of his artworks towards his later life were symbolic. It’s difficult to shake off everything learnt about Picasso the person when interpreting his artwork, but I think it’s unjust to boil it all down him being a very horny mysoginist.
I’d rate it 4.5 if I could based off the fact that it didn’t feature his most important drawing, based off technique and colour, in colour. But instead had 27 smokers in colour.
A crisp, visually driven overview of Picasso’s life and work, this 182‑page volume distills his evolution with clarity and focus. Boudaille offers a straightforward, accessible narrative that pairs well with the art reproductions, making it a solid, compact introduction to one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
