-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Book Description Publication March 2007 daily thoughts and meditations on living in a family with alcoholism
Of the three primary daily readers for Al-Anon (One Day at a Time, The Courage to Change, Hope for Today), I found this to be the one I enjoyed most. It’s easy to read and with more modern examples of the impacts of addiction the older books could not provide. Daily readers offer an opportunity to learn new things in small, bite size nuggets of only a page. Not all pages will apply to every reader but almost every page will have something worth noting / knowing.
This is one of my 4 daily Devotional books I read each day b4 I do ANYTHING....I can tell when I have not started my day off reading them, they are excellent short daily reading that may or may not apply to you. However, I rarely find a page that I do not....
I do not currently have anyone close to me who is an alcoholic, but alcoholism has touched me distantly through grandparents and others. I came across Al Anon materials accidentally but have found them to be hugely helpful in living an emotionally healthy life. Most of our lives are touched by dysfunction and dysfunctional people in many ways. Hope for Today provides a little daily dose of sanity and spiritual guidance in a world that is full of insanity and a denial of God. I highly recommend this book.
July 2022 I have read my way through this book for a second time. It is still very helpful to me. I'm very grateful for the experience, strength, and hope shared in these pages!
I pick this daily reader up constantly because it of all it says that I am able to relate to. I've been reading it for 3 years now, and even when I am.rereading a passage I get.something new from it.
My recovery blanket and bible when I started attending Al-Anon.
I find it best to get out of the AM (Al-Anon Mind of taking other people’s inventory) by getting my RPM’s (Reading-Prayer-Meditation) going first thing in the morning. 21+ years later, I still read Hope For Today every day.
I go through phases of reading this daily. At times it can really ease my mind and reset me to a good mind frame. Although it is especially helpful and aplicable to those with alcoholism in their families, I think its wisdoms can benefit anyone.
Of the daily readers, I like this one the best so far, although I have not yet seen the latest one published. I am grateful to have it for program work.
Could not have operated our zoom meetings during pandemic without kindle versions of CAL. Very grateful for your service and product. Lots of hope and love.
I love these daily meditation books. This book seems to be more for adult children of Alcoholic. They help me remember that I can recover from the effects of my parent's drinking. I read them every year to help me detach emotionally from other people. It seems like this one helps me most with the past.
