*This will be a slow to medium burn Why choose bully contemporary romance. This book will end in a cliffhanger but will have a HEA at resolution. This book will contain triggering elements for some. Please see the warning inside the book or check the authors page for full listing.*
Wow. I finished this a bit ago and I’ve been trying to process my thoughts and emotions ever since. Sierra is the strongest fmc I’ve come across in quite awhile. She’s been through so much, life keeps knocking her down but she always gets back up. She is fiercely protective of her sister and I love their relationship. Braxton and Zander made me mad at the beginning when they followed the crowd and didn’t step in for Sierra out of fear of not being popular. Luckily they both got their heads out of their 🍑 pretty quickly and became fully Team Sierra. Colton is still brainwashed by stupid Wes and I am very upset with him. Wes….I get that he thinks he knows what happened, but if Sierra was really his best friend all their lives and he was in love with her, how could he believe it and just start hating her so easily? He’s awful to her and encourages everyone else to be as well, and I hate him a little bit right now. Actually, after what he pulled at the end, I hate him a lot! He’s gonna have a heck of a lot of groveling and making up to do!! Cyrus is awesome and I love him. I’m unsure about Rico and why he’s so nice to Sierra when he’s not to anyone else. Mr Stevenson and Mrs Butler are fantastic caring adult characters and I’m glad Sierra and Sam have that, especially with Sarah as their guardian. Definite cliffhanger ending and I’ll be waiting on pins and needles for book 2!!
Let's start off by saying Bre is the master of her craft, this one is amazing!!! For warning the only thing about this book is we are left with a cliff hanger. Good news is I don't think we will have too long to wait for the second book. So there is that. I must say you are going to want to carve out some time because you are not going to be able to put this book down. So good, so here goes a little snippet of this creative genius mind where she has combined reverse harem, high school bully romance, the ring master of the bulling is her ex best friend, raising her kid sister at 17, full time job as a striper, add in horrible legal guardian of her and her young sister is a vile human, a sweet old lady helping her manage this absolutely crazy double life and you have probably one of the top best books I have read in a long time... well sort of, I would say it ties with Bre's last master piece, her and Co Author Cassie's, Beyond the Pack Series. Where I might add she has included the Beyond the Pack series in this book. How might you ask, well expertly she includes the books as Sierra and Zander's introduction to Reverse Harem, and their decision to make those books apart of their Senior Literature classes project. Braxton also decides to read it because he not only wants to win Sierra over but him and his brother are falling for the same girl so why not read about sharing one girl when in their reality they, want to share one girl. But I must back up.
So Sierra's mother passed away and Sierra and her sister only have her mothers sister, their Aunt Sarah to take over their care or go to foster care. Aunt Sarah has a drug, booze and men addiction and is a horrible person. She basically leaves Sierra and her younger sister Sam living on their own, but still collects the check, spent all of the life insurance money and now is coming back to take any money Sierra earns at her job.
Sierra's job is as a striper, where she makes pretty good money. One problem she is only 17. It seems that the Strip club owner Rico, who is pretty sleazy to everyone but Sierra. He looks out for her. He knows her age and her "dubble" life, as a 17 year old senior in High School, raising her younger sister on her own during the day and Stripper at Night. They have an agreement she doesn't serve Alcohol and tells no one her true age, and he pays her under the table and ignores that she is not legal age to work there. Rico is pretty much the only person in Sierra's life that knows about her "double" life well except for Mrs. Butler.
Mrs. Butler is an older widowed women who is Sierra and Sam's upstairs neighbor. She knows that their Aunt abandoned them. Also that Sierra is working and doing her best to survive until she graduates High School and turns 18. Then the plan is for her have enough money and a job to petition to be Sam's legal guardian. Mrs. Butler babysits Sam so Sierra can work but she has become a ally and a care taker, of not only Sam but Sierra too, almost like a grandmother to the girls. She is just as afraid that the situation will be discovered and the girls will be put into foster care and separated. Then it will be that much harder for Sierra to legally take over as Sam's guardian.
If that all isn't enough Sierra is also keeping a third secret or living yes another life. She has told NO one of the horrible bulling going on at school. The ring leader of it all is her ex best friend Wes. They had a falling out and Sierra has no idea what she did to cause Wes to not only not longer be her friend but turn the school against her. Wes is the popular, rich, good looking, football star at school and his group of friends as well as a lot of the school follow him and his humiliating bullying of Sierra. If they don't follow him and do what he decides to have them do to torcher her with that day, they stay far away from Sierra for fear they will be next. She has not one friend or ally at school. But that all seems it could change when 3 new boys, that are brothers transfer in to the school for their senior year. Braxton, Colt, and Zander are the adopted sons of the new guidance counselor. They all seem to have the hot’s for Sierra but if I say more I will give away a lot of how Sierra's men become her men.
All I will say is that the beginnings of Sierra's potential harem are Zander, Braxton and Cyrus (one of the security guy's at the club). These men all seem to want to take care of and be with Sierra but so much drama is going on in all these worlds that Sierra is a part of and it seems there is going to be quite an explosion that is going to happen, so big that I can't wait for the second book. I have to know what in the world is going to happen to Sierra next. She is faced with so many obstacles that would have destroyed others, but not her. She is strong and has a goal, to take care of and protect her baby sister.
Right from the prologue I knew this was a book I was going to get lost in, I felt the emotional tug immediately. Bre has such a wonderful writing style, she has the ability to really turn my insides out with anguish, to keep me physically attached to any book of hers I'm reading, every time! No exception here...
Sierra, OMG Sierra! I don't think there's ever been a more likeable MC. I've read tons of books where I'm completely taken with the MC but there's something ultra special about Sierra. First off, she's a loner. Not by choice, but by circumstance and what dreadful circumstances they are too! An average teen in their final year of school should be excited for what comes next, should be relishing the final few months with friends and parties. Unless you're Sierra...then you dread every second of it.
You see, Sierra and Westley were the best of friends, both feeling even more than mere friendship, until something happens. Until Westley turns his back on her. Until Westley declares all out war on her. Until... you get my drift. And it's not only that, after Sierra's mom passed, her lowlife aunt just dumps Sierra and her sister and Sierra has no option but to find work, urgently, anywhere, to keep a room over her and her younger sister. So, she not only has been forced into a job as an exotic dancer, she also has to keep off social services' radar lest they take her sister away. There you have Sierra's life in a nutshell; avoid all the bullying at school, avoid Westley and his circle, avoid social services, avoid scumbags at work, avoid auntie dearest, except that's not how life works, is it?
Such despair is offset by the sweet Samantha, who's the most darling little sister, the most amazing and supportive neighbour and a new family in town. I have to make a special mention of Cyrus, the most awesome character, all he wants is to protect Sierra, to be her friend, thank goodness for him! Zander, Brax and Colt, brother's who really want to get to know her, irrespective of what Westley is spewing out. They are truley amazing characters, warm, kind and totally yummy! This leads to some really beautiful encounters, only marred by the lies. Hats off to the boys for coming to their own conclusions, I loved how kind and sweet they are to Sierra, although she's still very distrustful, she warms up slowly. Only to be dropped in boiling water by Colt! My hand flew to my mouth, my stomach dropped to the floor at what Colt did, NOOOO COLT! NO!
An incredibly immersive, emotional read, a read that has a thread of hope through all the angst, a read of misconceptions, of intimidation, of survival. A read you will not be able to put down, a read that will keep you in it's thrall from start to finish and leave you desperate for book 2!
overall, this wasn't bad... but I didn't care for it. the prologue and first couple chapters felt almost like an info dump - which was really annoying bc this is a contemporary romance. all the info that was thrown at you could have been gradually introduced and it would have read better. the writing through the rest of the story felt kinda messy, unorganized and repetitive. when it switched POVs but it's the same scene, the whole convo/text/etc was repeated, like word for word. instead of it picking up after with the next characters reaction, it went back thru whatever happened and then moved on. I feel like this story had potential, bc I did sorta like the relationship that was building between Sierra and the guys, but I just couldn't enjoy it because of how messy the writing felt. I do think I will try the second one when it comes out bc that cliffy had me wanting to scream. I'm hoping there is either a ton of groveling happening soon, some sort of revenge plot (but that doesn't feel like Sierra 🙃), or a certain character isn't added to the harem bc I'm definitely not a fan of him rn.
Did someone ask for a bully book where the FMC is strong AF and leaves off on a cliffhanger? 😏 Against All Odds by Bre Rose releases on 4/29!
*Partial Blurb* He was my best friend until he wasn’t. One night was all it took to change everything. A night that I can’t remember. I went from friend to public enemy number one. Bullied and harassed every day in the hell hole called high school Life only gets worse after the death of my mother. I was thrust into the role of caretaker to keep me and my sister together. Struggle and secrets are what my life has become, doing whatever it takes.
Holy shit. The bullying in this book was chefs kiss!! I loved it and hated it at the same time. Wesley can seriously get fu$&ed. He is awful and I hope he gets what’s coming for him. Sierra on the other hand.. This women is strong as shit. She puts up with literal hell and still stands strong. I cried and I raged for her while reading this. This book doesn’t really contain much spice at all, but there is a bit of it there. I enjoyed the character development in this and I fell so in love with Sierra. I hate the cliffhanger that this left me on though. 🥴 All in all I rushed through this book so damn fast because I couldn’t put it down!!
Warning you this ONE time, read the triggers, be aware, because at times this book can really mess with someone if you have triggers.
That being said, I don't have triggers and parts of this book were hard to read. The bullying in this book goes to a level I hope to never see in real life. There is other triggers, but I'll save that for you, the reader to find out after you have read the warnings and decide to read this book.
It is a great book, I hate everything that poor Sierra is going through to keep her and her sister together. Wesley is a straight up moron, and I HOPE once he realizes how WRONG he is, he can't get off his knees begging for forgiveness. Brax, Zan, and Cyrus. These boys are what we want our daughters to find in their lives. Colton, he can jump off a bridge if you ask me.. A certain club owner, he's got some secrets, but I'm not 100% I am right on what at LEAST one of them is.
You WILL want to smack your kindle/IPAD/phone down at least one or 100 times, but I promise, this book is so good... The cliffhanger is a doozie and UGH, waiting for the next one and seeing everyone get their HEA is HARDDDDD. BUT that said, I am HERE FOR IT ALL AND can't wait!!
This book is on fire!!!! I absolutely devoured it in one go and need the second book now. The author Bre Rose is amazing with her writing and she makes you feel apart of her book, and really connect to the characters! The plot is great, the story flows amazingly and the depth of the characters is on point.
Sierra was best friends with Wesley growing up, having that relationship that was almost more. Then one night changed everything, gone waa the friendship and she was outcasted and put on blast as the school pariah. Afterwards her mom passes, and she is left with her wayward aunt who decides she doesnt want the responsibility of taking care of her and her little sister. So she does what is needed to take care of them. But will her secrets come out, will her tormentors finally get what they want from her, will social services rip them apart from the little 2 person family they built?
This book is full of bullying, allude of past rape, violence and humiliation. It does end on a cliffhanger to lead you to book two.
This is the first book in the Breaking Hearts Duet, please check the trigger warnings!!! Oh my fierce, sweet Sierra, thrown into a life no senior should have to deal with. After the death of her mother, Sierra and her younger sister Samantha move in with their Aunt who does nothing to support them. Spending all their money on drugs, never around leaving Sierra to find a job to support Sam so they don’t go into foster care. I fell in love with Mrs. Foster, a true god send to Sierra. So Sierra is a 17 year old stripper fighting off nasty patrons and an ex best friend Wes who’s making her life a living hell by bullying her in ways you’d never imagine. Things start to look up for her when 3 new brothers move into town, Braxton, Zander and Colt. Add in Cyrus from the club and Sierra finally has people in her corner. I immediately fell in love with Cyrus, Braxton and Zander but I’m not sure if Colt and Wes can redeem themselves. And that cliffhanger will leave you wanting book 2 now!
This book will sink its hooks into you before you finish the prologue. I started chapter one with my heart already breaking for what Sierra has gone through, and there's still so much to come. Sierra has such a strong character & I love her relationship with her little sister, Sam, and how protective she is of her. This is a slow burn, so no official boyfriends until kinda the end of the book. But I love Clyde, so nice & protective, he can take care of me anytime. New kids to town, Zander, Colton, & Braxton show different degrees of siding & caring for Sierra and I'm curious to see how their relationships will progress. And then there's the ex-best friend Wesley. As of the end of book 1 (to put it very nicely), he's on my list of I hope karma bites you and kicks you to the curb. We end on a doozy of a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Sierra is a very strong girl carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders and doing it with next to no help or no support. Her harem is being built in book 1 but the bullying she experiences is some of the worst I’ve read in a long time. While I think we can guess what happened to her and have an idea of who did it to her, I can’t wait for the answers that are sure to be provided in book 2. I am not sure I will ever find Wesley to be redeemable! I can almost always find ways to fall in love the bad guy, but I’m not sure there is anyway I can like him. And Colt needs to get his act together or I’m not sure I can like him either! I’m all in for Cyrus and the other two have some more work to do but I can’t wait to see them continuing to fight for Sierra and Sam in book 2. Also need to know what the deal is with Rico!!! Book 2 can’t come quick enough to bring me my answers.
Sierra's Story Wow!! I first want to mention our FMC, Sierra. She is a survivor and a fighter no doubt and also the perfect big sister. My heart wanted to break for her at times, but I was also so proud of her. She has an inner strength that keeps her going. I have mixed feelings on the guys. I loved Cyrus. Zander and Braxton are growing on me. Colton, the jury is still out on him. Wesley, not sure he will he able to redeem himself or not. This book brought out all my emtions and more! It grabbed my attention from the get go and I didn't put it down until I was finished! I may have stayed up well past my "normal" bed time. A few things are explained, but I still have lots of questions. I also have a few suspicions. 😉 That ending had me screaming!!! What a fantastic start to this duet!!
This is book 1 of Breaking Hearts Duet. This book really spoke to me when I read it, I was so ingrossed I lost track of time. The female lead Character Sierra is a strong character who has alot to deal with especially when looking after and supporting her younger sister, she does and would do anything for her, she is her world a great big sister to Sam. This book you see bully that seems harsh and the start of her harem to begin. I am totally all up for seeing more grovelling from the guys and some need to get thier acts together which I hope to see in book 2. This does end of a cliffhanger that you just want to scream at.
I absolutely loved this book!!!! But OMG I've never wanted to fight fictional characters so bad in my life!! The crap Sierra goes through had my blood pressure through the roof!! I wanted to fight them all!!! I got a list of names!!! Sierra is so strong tho, a true fighter and survivor and one could only hope to have the backbone she does!!! The end wrecked me and I don't know how I'm gonna do waiting for book 2. Like y'all might actually have to check in on me.. I'm not ok!! And if any of y'all see Wesley around let him know I'm looking for him.....(cracks knuckles).. outstanding job Bre Rose!!! OUTSTANDING!!!!!
This book will easily hold a top five spot for the year. My heart is a wreck. The ending left me with no choice but to immediately move onto the second book. Sierra is just trying to make it through her senior year of high school but life is making that near impossible. It all stems from a night she can't remember and has snowballed from there. Just when she starts to relax and feel like a normal teenager, her world is rocketed into chaos. I cannot speak enough about how much I loved this book. There's definitely warnings you'll want to read. However, the emotions that are poured onto the pages are worth every tear and heartache you will feel while reading.
I absolutely loved this book! I devoured it and I can’t wait for the next one. I'm a sucker for dark bully romance and this one had my little black heart skipping for joy. Sierra goes through a lot. More than she should have to. I love Cyrus, Zander, and Brax. I was constantly screaming at Colt and Wes. This is a slow burn, why choose, bully romance. Bre did a fantastic job with this book! I definitely recommend this!
Please check TW before starting. This story truly captivated me from the first few pages in the book. My emotions have been put through the wringer from feeling sorrow to anger. I’ve never been a fan of killing off book characters until this book, there is one character that I would personally love to kill off. I don’t want to spoil the story so I will end with stating this the cliffy at the end is killer and I can’t wait for the next book.
This book was so freaking good! I binged this thing in one sitting and I'm not even mad about it. I completely ignored the world around me and just kept reading. I don't think I even realized I did until I hit the end and there were no more pages left to turn.
Sierra is one tough and strong FMC. She's barely making ends meet, living in this run down apartment, trying to take care of her younger sister. And on top of that, she's trying to survive her last year of high school. Her best friend Wesley turned into her worst freaking nightmare, all because of something that happened, that will hopefully get cleared up in the next book. And Ms Bre, you better make this man grovel. He needs knees on the floor, hardcore groveling.
But even with that bully, throw in the club bouncer hell bent on making Sierra his, a set of twins who are hot AF and their brother Zander who is just as sweet as can be. I licked Zander by the way. He's mine. And I need book 2 like asap.
I have been waiting for this book after I read blurb as soon I got the chance. I drove right in . Literally devoured this in one go I couldn’t put it down so desperate what happens next . I don’t want to give to much of the story away and that's the last thing I want to do. All I can say you are in for one heck wild one !!!!
Author writes very well and I'm glad I didn't grow up with social media. For the first time, I couldn't read more than short moments and the book triggered a lot for me. Struggling with so much in one's life and at the same time struggling with horrible bullying made me almost cry several times. I had to tell myself several times that it was just fiction.
This book was fantastic a very diff change for this author! Usually we get spice spice spice and this was more slow and angsty and full of steam. I’m obsessed with it! And that ending? Don’t play with me! I cant wait for the next book.
This was an Great book. Please read, the triggers warning, in this book. This is part 1, of a two part series. To Be honest, I don't usually read bulling or high school, books like this. But this book caught my attention, frist , the author, than, the cover, and finally the Blub. I'm so Glad, I decide to read this book. This book is Great. I couldn't put it down. 💓 this story. Yes this book ends in a Cliffhanger, but I'm reading, the next book, as soon as it comes out. Going to read part 2, next, when it comes out. 💓 Cyrus, Zan, Brax, Colt, Sirerra, her Sister Sam and Mrs. Butler This book has emotions caught my attention, she strong, she raising her sister, entertaining, unpredictable, tears, page turner, wonderful characters, action pack, romantic, rollercoaster of emotions, plus a lot more. 💓 this book. I knew , I would. Reading , the next book soon. 💓 it. The ending WOW!!
This was one interesting book to read. The whole of the book our FMC is getting bullied by the whole school and while I guessed what happened to her, I was just waiting for Weston (the main bully) to finally find out the truth and the grovelling to start!
We don't get any actual spice in the first book, mostly we get to meet all characters and I was there for it! It was a good read and I can't wait for the second book because everything just went to hell!
I wanted to scream and lashed out to anyone for Sierra's behalf! This book will haunt me forever. It's one of the more brutal bully reverse harem romances I have read so far. It's absolutely brilliant.
Holy god this book is soooo good! Spicy sexy , made me mad as hell with Wes :-( my god . The cliff hanger at the end!!! NOOOO I need to see what happens like now :-( this is a must read 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🖤🖤🖤🖤she is such a good writer . I was obsessed . Trigger warnings
Wow. Just. Wow. This book shattered me into a million pieces as to which I may never recover. I loved every minute of the torment. This is an absolute masterpiece 😍
This was an amazing and emotional read! This book pulled me in and had me hooked tot he very end. I loved the characters and the storyline. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
There are so many emotions when it comes to this book. I am so angry and heartbroken for Sierra. I’ve never wanted to get stabby with so many characters. I am utterly ready to throw my kindle because of the cliffy. I’m also running through so many theories right now.
