Together at last! From America’s favorite #1 New York Times bestselling author comes a very special edition containing not one, but three Between-the-Numbers books: Visions of Sugar Plums, Plum Lovin’ and Plum Lucky
Visions of Sugar Plums
It’s five days before Christmas and things are not looking merry for Stephanie Plum. She hasn’t got a tree. She hasn’t bought any presents. The malls are jam-packed with staggering shoppers. There’s not a twinkle of light anywhere to be seen in her apartment—and there’s a strange man in her kitchen.
Plum Lovin’
Mysterious men have a way of showing up in Stephanie Plum’s apartment. When the shadowy Diesel appears, he has a task for Stephanie—and he’s not taking no for an answer.
Plum Lucky
Stephanie Plum is looking to get lucky...In an Atlantic City hotel room…In a Winnebago…And with a brown-eyed stud who has stolen her heart.
Janet Evanovich is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, the Lizzy and Diesel series, twelve romance novels, the Alexandra Barnaby novels and Trouble Maker graphic novel, and How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author, as well as the Fox and O'Hare series with co-author Lee Goldberg.
I love Stephanie Plum for the sheer escapism of the stories, yes they are formulaic, yes nothing new really happens (Joe Morelli or Ranger? Another car blows up? oops!) but really when you need a laugh does that REALLY matter?
So the "Between the Plums" series are great escapism too. (Joe Morelli or Ranger or Diesel?) A little paranormal whodunit just to keep current with the times when werewolves, vampires and ghosts are in every other book you pick up (and as a librarian I pick up a LOT of books!)
I really don't think I need to say much other than if you ever listen to books while you drive, knit, clean house or whatever, make sure you get these on audio for Lorelei King is just AMAZING!!
While reading Hardcore Twenty-Four, I came upon Diesel - a character I didn't remember reading about before. Turns out he was in three "between the plums" books Evanovich had written, books I didn't know existed as I worked through the 24 Plum books.
Science Fiction authors often pen short stories so that they can try out new ideas, characters, settings, etc. without writing a whole book or series. Janet Evanovich seems to have decided to try this as well but she elected to write complete books.
Between the plums has the usual cast of characters, situations, and trappings of the other Stephanie Plum books. However, the plot focuses on Diesel, a semi-mystical character who tracks down other individuals gifted with special traits and skills.
While these three books are fun and entertaining, they fall short of the usual Stephanie Plum books in several ways. First, with all of the craziness of "the burg" going on, adding mystical characters seems unnecessary. While having a special skill like giving people hives is humorous, I found it too far fetched - even for a Plum book. Second, with the focus on Diesel, these books lack the usual relationship tension between Stephanie and Morelli and Ranger. Third, Evanovich doesn't "flesh out" Diesel as much as the other characters so you don't get the same "member of the family" feel you have with all of the other characters in Stephanie's life.
That said, these three books were quick and easy reads, explained Diesel's appearance in Hardcore Twenty-Four, and gave me something to read while waiting on Look Alive Twenty-Five.
Did not care for these...as like the other Stephanie Plum Series better.
Visions of Sugar Plums It’s five days before Christmas and things are not looking merry for Stephanie Plum. She hasn’t got a tree. She hasn’t bought any presents. The malls are jam-packed with staggering shoppers. There’s not a twinkle of light anywhere to be seen in her apartment—and there’s a strange man in her kitchen.
Plum Lovin’ Mysterious men have a way of showing up in Stephanie Plum’s apartment. When the shadowy Diesel appears, he has a task for Stephanie—and he’s not taking no for an answer.
Plum Lucky Stephanie Plum is looking to get lucky...In an Atlantic City hotel room…In a Winnebago…And with a brown-eyed stud who has stolen her heart.
Really 2.5 for Vision of Sugar Plums and Plum Lucky, 3.5 for Plum Lovin’. All of the things you look for in a Plum novel are there: ruined cars, family dinners that turn to chaos, trips to fast food places and all the characters you know and love.
New to these books is Diesel who has some supernatural skills. Given that my main issue with the number books is the sameness, I guess I shouldn’t complain about shaking things up, but I just never got into Diesel. The supernatural aspect seems out of place in a Plum novel. Also, with Ranger and Joe, I don’t think we need another sexy man in Stephanie’s life. In fact, Diesel and Ranger seem like the same guy at times. Finally, the holiday aspect is really only highlighted in Plum Lovin’.
The books are a quick and mildly entertaining read; they’re okay.
Who doesn't like a holiday story? This book has three of the four existing Plum short stories; Visions Of Sugar Plums, Plum Lovin, and Plum Lucky.
So you get Christmas, Valentine's Day, and good ole St. Patrick's Day.
You also get Diesel from Evanovich's "Lizzy & Diesel" series. He's also a recurring theme in the Plum shorts starring in all three of them. I'm assuming he's in the fourth as well but I haven't read it yet.
There's very little Ranger or Morelli here, and I mean very little, but for short stories they're very lengthy (this book coming in a little under 5oo pages) and they're a full complete story unlike some other novellas. Diesel also isn't a bad substitute for a male interests and there's plentry page time from other known Plum characters.
I read this book for the local book discussion group I am in with our community library. We wanted something light and fun for the end of the year, and this certainly was just that. I am glad I chose the book that included all the books as they are numbered one to three, as for the group we just read the first one in this book. Quite funny and you wonder what will be happening next with Stephanie and her family and co-workers as she goes about her work and tries to prevent catastrophes from occurring. This is the first book I have read by this author and I will definitely be reading more.
We have been listening to the audio books for this series. They have been very entertaining. These books will probably not go down in history as classic literature, but they have been fun. Between The Plums is a series of three short stories, that are tied together. I'm not sure why she didn't just make it into one book. I didn't feel that the stories were quite as good as previous, full length novels in the series, but they still merit listening to, as several new characters are introduced. I don't know if they will carry over to the next books in the series, or not.
These three relatively short (fewer than 200 pages each) stories bring just a touch of fantasy to the world of Stephanie Plum in the guise of a mysterious man who goes by the name of Diesel, who is also in the fugitive retrieval business. In these stories, he's looking for a sort of Santa Clause guy, a matchmaking cupid sort, and a short guy who considers himself a leprechaun.
As with the other books in the series, these are almost slapstick comedies of errors: not great literature, no real insights into human behavior, no satirical comments on society, but quick reads and good fun.
Funny, quirky and intriguing. Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter for her cousin Vinnie's company. She is after those who have jumped bail or who haven't shown up for their court date. Diesel is a unmentionable (someone they have no name for) who has certain powers. He just shows up out of the blue wanting Stephanie's help. Those he is after are unmentionables also. They get into some strange situations. Really good. Hard to put down.
I immediately fell for Stephanie Plum ... how can you not! She is a train wreck with plenty of mascara, and a fantastic family! Can't wait for more adventures!
BTW ... I am TOTALLY Team Ranger! Also Lula is AMAZING ... we all need a Lula in our lives! I have decided I want to be adopted by the Plums so I can have a Grama Mazur!
I have read the first 22 as well as the In-Between the Plums stories and I am so ready for the next several!
The book contains three of the four "between the numbers" Stephanie Plum books. While they're not quite the same as the normal (using the term loosely) Plum books, they're pretty close. Still crazy, still funny, with most of the normal characters, but they all include Diesel. Hard to describe exactly what Diesel is, but he literally pops into Stephanie's life with holiday-themed issues to work, dragging her into his tasks.
This was actually three holiday stories with a new character, Diesel, who is kind of "otherworldly." Typical Stephanie Plum adventures. Her cars continue to get destroyed. Her grandmother cracks me up. Her men, Ranger and Joe, aren't in the stories very much, but Lula is always involved.
I like the outside influence of someone different than the usual suspects. Lots of fun moments and chaos but if you are looking for a simple read on the beach or while flying this one is a good for
Each of the three books is holiday themed: Christmas, Valentine’s and loosely based on St. Patrick’s Day. I enjoy Janet Evanovitch books as a light-hearted break between heavier topics but this was a little too much in one sitting.
Three novellas in which Stephanie Plum manages to get through Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, and Valentines Day. Diesel, the charming jerk, features in all three. As always, kudos to Lorelei King for her masterful narration.
This was a fun book that brought characters from Janet's other series, like Diesel into the chase and merriment! I try not to miss anything this author puts out!
3 of the craziest books from Janet Evanovich I have read. Especially the last one. I laughed a lot and Diesel had me very confused. He is one crazy dude.
