A book written for those who do not believe the truth of Christianity and for those who are experiencing difficulties in their believing. Pinnock does not call for mere fideism but feels that faith should be tested in light of the knowledge and experience we have at our disposal. He claims that there is reason enough to put out trust in Christ.
Clark H. Pinnock (d. 2010) was professor emeritus of systematic theology at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, Ontario. Widely regarded as one of evangelicalism's most stimulating theologians, he produced several widely discussed books, including The Wideness of God's Mercy and (with four other scholars) The Openness of God.
Pinnock provides a relatively short, but well thought out apologetic for biblical Christianity. It provides an excellent, systematic summary of five main arguments for why belief in Jesus is intellectually reasonable and logical. The books target is clearly not for career academics who will not doubt quibble about details. Rather it is for a mainstream audience. As the book states, if you are interested enough in the essence of the book to pick it up and read it, then you are the target reader.
