I've read this book a couple of times. And I have to admit, it's only okay. It's like the British quiz/comedy show QI. Lots of intelligent stuff, but enough errors in it you have to wonder if any of it is true, or how much of it is exaggerated. Example: The book discusses the Teton Dam disaster in Idaho in 1976, rightly saying the Bureau of Reclamation erred in building the dam where it did, not taking into account the canyon's volcanic geology. However, the book also claims the resulting flood "devastate" the town of Idaho Falls. No, it didn't. The towns of Rexburg, Sugar City, and Wilford, yes. Idaho Falls got a little flooding and they had to cut a channel to save a bridge. But that was about it. I was born in Idaho Falls and lived in both Rexburg and Sugar City, so I oughtta know. What else did the author get wrong, or exaggerate, just to make a comic statement? I don't know. But take what's said with a grain of salt.
I thought this book would be an easy read to pass some time but because it’s basically clips from the news it got kind of monotonous to get through. I didn’t laugh once or find many things funny but a lot of the names mentioned were recognizable and their quotes were disheartening. well I’m done with this one.
